I've got ten thousand things to say but I'm going to narrow it down.

Unfortunately an electronic malfunction kills our data half-way through the run, but here is the video. You can time it for yourselves.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Y4aZx3aM7I

I hope you see the irony in this. After your team came over to claim you went 267 mph, you have an "electronic malfunction" that kills the data. Based on this alone, I would recommend they never share any data with you. It's hard to take it seriously when you are essentially saying "You're a fibber because you won't show your data. By the way, we can't show you ours either because out of all our runs our fastest magically disappeared."

This isn’t sour grapes. I’m a shop owner playing this "game" with my own money and have an enormous amount of respect for anyone participating in this insane event. I just don’t like losing when the data (or lack of it) might say otherwise.

If I were Jason and Ray, I would never post their best run, because as you say, this isn't a game and there's no point putting all the cards on the deck before the hand is over. There's more racing to be had. Don't assume the best run came on Sunday.

Just a thought: Your best verifiable run is 252.97 mph. Ray's car crushed that on Thursday morning on it's first test pass not running all out. If Ray and Jason want to post anything, I would post that.

As we sat in the trailer on Thursday, after Ray's car had promptly annihilated all previous numbers, it was my personal recommendation that they post those numbers and the video immediately. My theory was "Hey, you just crushed the prior world record, and if someone shows up and runs something ridiculous on Sunday, it will be like Thursday never happened." I was also concerned that because of who was running the event Sunday, nobody would take it seriously.

The others had concerns that it would tip off people for Sunday though and nothing was shared, which is a very reasonable rationale. At the Texas Mile, it was a game of tenths, and changes can happen quick. Giving people a heads up in racing isn't the best idea. Just like Ray showed up faster in Miami, I'm sure the Underground Gallardo was faster too. It went within 4 mph of it's Texas Mile run with a huge headwind in high heat and they say it was on lower boost. Of course, they were also concerned that people would question the legitimacy of the vBox. Personally, I've seen the $500 performance box within .1 of the $18,000 version they use for OEM auto testing, but I digress.

There were 4 forum members in addition to Ray and Jason on hand to witness this. If you have any doubts that Ray's car crushed 252.97 the moment it rolled off the trailer Thursday, you're can ask me, FlorIdaho Chris, Chip Beck and tmcphail too. They know it. They saw it. They were there. But with all this going on, I just recommend they nod their head yes when asked if Ray's car is the proven fastest one mile car in the world, never share a number, and have a laugh while others squirm.

In the mean time, we're done arguing here. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't. As BlackIce says, if you post vBox, everyone will cry you modified it. If you post video, they'll rationalize why it's wrong. If Ray or Jason or Chip want to say anything else on the subject, they can, but otherwise, let's get this thing back on track. If it gets derailed further, it's just going to get sent to cyberspace purgatory, so save your keystrokes.

I am new to mile racing......and man is it fun. :banana

This is just an observation of an outsider, but I have seen something similar to this before with other sports I have participated in, particularly skydiving. The sport becomes your identity instead of something that you just enjoy and your performance is how you measure your worth. You obsess on it. It becomes impossible to enjoy others success. I have seen people downright depressed and despondent when their "world" record was broken rather than be proud of their accomplishment and grateful for the time that they had the "title". :frown

I get the impression that to Ray and his group that this is a part of their life, not the overwhelming defining event of their life. That is the way it should be and I hope perspective kicks in and this gets back to the reason we all participate in these types of things. Because it is fun. Best of luck to all future participants. :cheers

I cannot leave this alone because my business depends on verifiable accuracy. One person called this a game “played by intense individuals for personal satisfaction.” I can assure you that this is no game for PPR. Unsubstantiated claims hurt my business as well as my credibility. If I‘m wrong, I will…[/B]

I try to stay out of any disputes because it does not benefit me in any way to get involved in this, but your mouth is gonna hurt your business far more than anything else you are mentioning. I dont think anyone disputed that your car is better or worse than the Heffner/Hofman car. There are so many variables in racing. Hell, there is probably another driver in the world that could get in your car and/or Hofmans car and run better times and speeds than either one of you did. Its ONE day in racing. When your day came and you ran 253 or whatever it was, no one disputed it. Hell, half the people here were patting you on the back! The adult thing to do here is prepare for the next race and do your best. End of story. Nothing you say, post, do, at this point is gonna make anyone say, "OK, you are right, Forget Rays run, you are the king". From what I have read, thats what you are looking for and its uncalled for and makes one look like a poor sport. I grew up in the racing world and raced motorcross from the time I was 5 years old. No matter wether I was the winner or loser, I was tought to go congratulate my opponent no matter what the outcome and never question the outcome. No matter HOW much you dispute it, the way the events played out are not gonna change. Just show up at the next event with your A game and have fun with it. :thumbsup

By the way, if an electronic malfunction killed your data halfway through the run, how did you know you went 267? :confused

Guys, this thread is about Ray's victory. Just move this stuff to the timing thread. If there is a "member issue" then block him from this thread.

thats my 2 cents, that are worth significantly less now that Obama is President of the bank.

After considerable thought I figured I would respond to the comments of Johnny Bohmer and PPR. It looks as though you are calling into question the integrity and honor of Ray Hofman, Jason Heffner, Sakata Motorsports and myself. While I understand your concerns about the timing equipment, we were all racing under the same circumstances that particular day. As I recall, the timing equipment for most of the day showed a lower mph than all of our collective data showed, yours included. Later in the day it appeared to be "fixed". Our data agreed with what the timing equipment said on our last run.

As for showing you our data, you have a better chance to get the recipe for Kentucky Fried Chicken.

As for myself, I have 18 other world records and a world championship to my credit racing Modular engines over the past 15 years. The fact that you don't consider this valid doesn't really concern me. Just poor sportsmanship on your part. As a matter of fact it inspires me.

I remember several years ago racing against someone just like you with a "colorful" personality. His mouth ran faster than his car just like you and it inspired me to just be better at every level than he was. You might start looking for a new motto for being second place (if you can finish that well)because there's a new sheriff in town.

BTW.Your car might run faster if you fix all of that smoke roaring out of it.

Good luck

John's bringing the heat. It's fine to talk it as long as you can walk it, right? I have a feeling that Ray, John, Jason and Sakata will be 'walk'n it' down a country mile in October.

Good times.
