    Lightweight Ford GT40

All the CP build cars had the same offset mirrors. The right hand mirror was moved back a few inches to make it funtional. Nardo should have the offset mirrors but memory is not what it was. The move is about 2 inches.

    FGT Rally V - Registration!

Hey roketman, spent all day yesterday driving track pack 2012 5.0L mustangs, at a track near Grattan Michigan in prep for you guys next month. Next week out to the VDA here at Dearborn to practice drifting GT (ask specracer). Want to see your GT shirt, if it is real you will need to iron it...

    Ten Questions with:

212 mph and other stuff Here is some PI data from the high speed testing. Note this is PI data so speed is on the high side. The reason we went with the Focus column is that it has tilt and telescoping, dual stalks and good for modal vibration. It is a very good column no matter what car it is...

Any FGT obscure trivia, rare facts, oddities?

Ok from my memory, the Work Horse prototypes got a Ricardo race gear box case with special internal gears. The case had casting bosses for the rear suspension to bolt to from some type of race car. This was tied to a Mustang Terminator engine of 4.6L displacement. The transaxle for the...

    Center of Gravity

If you want to be precise for a stock GT, try @ curb loading: GG height 18.5 inches high Longitudinal CG 60.32 inches rearward from centerline of front axle Lateral CG -0.26 inches (left of longitudinal centerline)

    high beam light

Rocketman, the blue high beam light was one of my few annoyances' with the car. The light is covered by a shudder that flips up to expose the light bulb, and seeing that it is a warning light it is not on the dimmer circuit. At Nardo the track is out in the country where there is very little...

    Tires at Rally

While we tested many tires during the GT program only the Goodyears were tested and signed off for high speed.

Runway event in Russia - will the GT TT be the fastest!

Here is some more info on Nardo, note scale of tracks. And yes you do have to turn the wheel about 20 deg to stay on track. So you are developing a slip angle with the tires that slow you down. Tire temps were not a big issue. Nardo GT has my tire temp sheets from some of the runs.

Three Pre-Production Ford GT's to be auctioned at SAI in Las Vegas

I remember the day that CP1 arrived at Roush. It was a big jump from the work horse prototypes we were using at the time. This was a real car, that you could get a feel for what the production units were going to be. I still remember that it did NOT have engine louvers or rear bumper cover when...

    2004 Ford GT?

Chris A. I drove your car! Only did the first 50 cars. After the plant cleared the vehicles for their quality checks, the vehicles were shipped via Reliable (closed carrier) to our Michigan Proving Grounds. We then checked the alignment and bump steer before doing a driving test. We would...

Goodyear Replacement Tire / 120 miles Flat????

If this is a OE tire then there is no Carbon Fiber in the side wall. The tire is NOT a run flat. You must use the tire inflation kit (for holes in the tread area). You then can go up to 100+ miles a 50 mph (if you are able to inflate to OE tire pressures). Tire must be replaced as no repaires...

    Aston Martin Emblem

Pad material The brake caliper is shared with the AM DB9. We went with a more aggressive/responsive pad material vs. AM with no real brake noise plates (those steel plates and paste between the pad and caliper pistons). AM tried to use our pad material but could not live with the brake noise...

Clamshell popped open at 80 mph...

Jeff Walsh (kiwi) was doing the driving, I (American) was in the passenger seat pulling the clamshell latch at our APG VDA. We started at 50 mph and just kept upping the speed. We stopped at 120 mph as the rear started to get light. It is more dramatic if the clamshell is latch first and then...

    The 200 mph club

Here is a slice of one of the 212 mph runs via Pi data. Speed is not GPS in this data so I do not consider it accurate. We used the VBOX GPS data for absolute speed. As you can see the GT was still accelerating when it hit the rev limiter. The estimation was that a stock GT would do 215 to 217...

    The 200 mph club

212 at Nardo happened on the last day of testing. The temps were in the high 70's to low 80's every day, until the last day when the temps were in the 50's. The cool air was the formula for big power and speed. Rev limit was 6500 rpm. The other car that only did 209 was already packed for...
