When I left this thread yesterday it was on page 3. you can imagine how shocked I was that it is on page 10 now.
Let me preface this post with one thing. I am not mechanically inclined. Everything in this thread relating to engines, compression, internals, dyno charts and the rest is complete greek to me. I drive, plain and simple. I look at what the results are on the road or the track. I love the car and enjoy every minute of it. I do not work on my own car because I do not have the capability. I was fortuante at the beginning of my GT experiences to find an honest man that I can trust that has done nothing but exceed my expectations and I have never had a repair bill from running my car hard (Including 36 200mph+ runs between my wife and I and 11,800 trouble free miles).
Now as a driver I saw the thread and thought, WOW that is a big number for a Whipple on 91 octane, particularly the torque, but I do not know enough about engines to know if it is feasible or not. Once I saw the posts reminding us all of the special engine build and raising the rev limiter it made some more sense. I met Ed last April and he is a great guy who checked in on me several times during my recovery from my recent accident. I look forward to running with him and all the NoCal GT members at the next GT day.
Here is what I do know and find disappointing on a whole about the Forum of late and why I don't post as much as I used to. There is a chasm of a divide between the SC and the TT people here and I have no idea why. They are different cars and different set ups completely. They all drive different. It completely changes the complexion of the car with each upgrade. If you have not driven all three forms (stock SC, Whipple, TT) for effect you can't really comment on one set up versus the other. I would never say TT is better than SC for anyone but myself. But there seems to be this need out there to justify ones set up. Kendall is becoming "known" for his great work with the Heffner TT set up with good reason. But when he questions something in an effort to learn it seems that it is looked upon as the TT guy is picking on the Whipple guys, even though Kendall's personal GT is still an SC car. Furthermore I am pretty sure Kendall has installed more Whipples than TT's (including putting a Whipple on for a friend of mine's car recently). My friend who got the Whipple could not have been happier. If someone is expecting to put on a Whipple and get Ed's results they would be in for big disappointment if the details about the engine build, tune and placement of the rev limiter were not added to the original post.
Whatever form you choose for your car is great. We are all lucky to have a GT. However if I posted a result that someone decided to question I would not take it personal, which is becoming the norm here. I would take it as an opprotunity to enlighten people in a positive way about my set-up. Isn't that what we are all here for?? To help each other and learn from the improvements made by others so we can decide what is best for us. The responses to questions about Ed's set-up were not handled in that way. It was handled like a teacher admonishing the annoying student for having the nerve to speak up. We get it, SC people are proud and loyal to your set up. That is great. We also get that people who have had their car worked on by Shadowman are loyal to him. Fantastic. But lets all grow up and try to quell this divide that keeps cropping up. This has been the best car Forum ever. Let's keep it that way.
And since the moderaters all seem to be on the way to the rally I am going to post my own personal opinion. There is one particular poster on this thead who has been banned until recently. And there is still a smell that comes off of that situation that many of us feel has not yet disappated. It is amazing that during the time of the "banning" this type of carping among members in theads was drastically reduced.
