The GTR is a very impressive car, no matter how you look at it

I raced a ZO6 in one of my GTRs. The GTR left it at the light like it was standing still. I do like z06 corvettes. A little modding and they can be very fun! ;)

really, cause I came across one not too long ago in my m5 and he had a very hard time pulling away from me, although we were already up to speed, from what I gathered its not a fast car, but rather handle exceptional and it is quick off the line, once you get going on a straight its not that special.

I wish I was in my gt:biggrin

If Nissan could strip this car with no leather, electrics, base wheels, Tremec 6spd etc. for $45k, and call it the 240Z, it would put Vette out of business

I dont know if all that would be possible for 45K, and besides if they did all that, then it would be a vette, except uglier:lol

My point was the ZO6 cost less than today's GT-R, and less than 1/2 what the FGT did (sticker to sticker), and still had(has?) about the same perf. figs. as a stock FGT.

Regardless, I think the ZO6 will have to be "upgraded" a bit in the perf dept now that the GT-R is here. If I remember right, the GT-R does 0-60 in about 3.3??? ... the ZO6 in about 3.7???

I think some of the GTR's quick 0-60 times are probably using its launch control - which has all the known warranty issues

Current loaded Z06 stickers for same as current GT-R. A completely loaded 3LZ z06 with nav and chrome wheels has a mid $80k sticker.
Anyway, this thread is not about Corvettes. Its about GT-Rs and GTs, which still are not comparable cars in my book. GT is a much better SUPER car and will always be a more long term desired car. GTR, a much better Daily Driver beat some A** car! :)

And , I agree with soroush, the V6 in the Nissan does not feel like its got the 100 mph + grunt the V8 in the vette and GT does.

I remember GTs bringing $250k+. Now, you can get a nice one $140k to $180k all day. No one is saying the GTR is gonna be a rare collectable, but Being as I have had several new GTRs and 100's of GTs, they are both remarkable cars. The fact that Nissan made a car with the performance a GTR produces for the MSRP of HALF a GT says alot. Im not trading my GT for a GTR, nor would I a GTR for a GT. They are totally different cars. I love them both! :thumbsup

(ok, maybe I would trade a GTR for a GT, but who wouldnt?)

Oh, and any GTR you know of NEW for under $70k, I would like to be pointed in that dirrection as I could use it! :)

On OVE..

JN1AR54F29M251150 traded in at a KIA dealership in CO for $74K
and
JN1AR54F69M250275 at another dealer in CA for $73K

Work your magic Shelby, I'll bet they could be both bought for under $70K. If you want, I'll go inspect the CA one for you, just ask....

I'm curious which KIA model the GTR was traded in for......

6 months ago the stink cost $100K plus. Now they can be had under $70K, new.

Not a sign of a legend by any measure. Performance aside, I think it was, is and will always be ugly - just my opinion.

Thanks for the info, but those prices are NOT under $70k and not new. Seems as though used ones are trading at and around MSRP since most the 09 cars had an MSRP of $73k to $75k. Im suprised they have held this well....

Eventually the "GTR Fugly Factor" (aka GTRFF) will catch up with that crowd. In 2001 when the C5 Z06 came out everyone rushed to buy it because it established 2 things; 1) Great performance value and I will argue this to death and 2) Good looking car. Today they resale at about $20K from the $50K high MSRP in 2004. Even today, the C5Z06 is a great track car and relatively inexpensive to fix (I would pick it over the C6Z06 for tracking purpose). None of this is true with the GTR.

In 5 years, I predict the GTR will resale at less than 50% of its original MSRP, will be expensive to repair outside of manufacturers warranty and don't forget will still have the "Fugly Factor" but a less shinier.

The Gt will never be ugly at any cost and at any point in the future. Just my humble opinion.

my 2 pennies:
I do not think the GT has anything to worry about. The GT will stand the test of time, already has! The GTR, I predict, will blend into the mass of "like shaped" cars within a few years. I am not trying to say it is not still a special car. This same kind of thing that happens to most high end Corvettes. I have owned several Corvettes including two C4 ZR1s and if someone did not know what the ZR1 was, it blended in with all of the other Corvettes. Unfortunately, I think this will be true of the new ZR1 also. Too many production cars with mods and such that look similar. I feel this will happen to the GTR also. Mitsubishi front ends look very similar...
The other thing I have observed with being from the Corvette crowd is that the GTR would not be so super without the super sticky tires. The Corvette guys are able to pick up substantial performance gains with just a simple change of tires. The GT seems to be ripe for better tires also. ( I have always felt that when comparing performance, cars should be tested with the same tires. )
Nissan has built a fine high performance sports car and has done a super job at marketing it.
The Ford GT is a SUPER CAR!:thumbsup

Yea, I'd say they are close in performance.. At that airstrip event I went to the GTR ran a whopping GPS speed of 183 MPH.. I had my GT at 206 MPH and still climbing.. I'd say that's close !! :biggrin

The GTR has short gearing. It has a good 0-60 and 1/4 mile time but they run out of steam after that !!

Short gearing, sticky tires, all wheel drive and quick computerized dual clutch shifting, makes the GT-R very quick out of the box for its HP/Weight ratio. At higher speeds where traction isn't limiting factor and shift times don't matter as much, then it is mainly HP/Aero Drag numbers, this is where the GT-R doesn't shine so brightly.

One could make a valid case that the GT-R has more usable performance in the range of normal street driving where one rarely goes over 100 mph. Of course that is if you can stand the looks of it.

I Agree.. :biggrin I am not knocking the GTR. It is what it is. The GT and the GTR are apples and oranges in my book. It stands alone in the ability to carry four people,,

I love you Shelby, but this is such BS, I can't hold it in. Both of my stock C6 Z06's were faster than my stock FGT during separate pulls in 1st, 2nd and 3rd at 2000 and 3000 rpm, which I state only to establish that these Z06's were faster straight-line than my FGT which was dyno'd at 519 wrhp. If I were at a red light next to a GTR, which is like being next to a small SUV, and it was revving at 5,000 rpm's under launch control waiting for the light to change, it would leave me like I was standing still...because I would be standing still or barely moving while laughing my ass off, waiting for it to self destruct and hoping a cop was observing. My guess is you were the only one racing, regardless of wether or not you were in launch control. :cheers
