We've built a few of these into fully caged track kings and their owner's LOVE them.

I'm expecting the first car we built to come back out here in November or early December for Stage 2 of the build. They are pretty incredible cars. They respond amazingly well to performance modifications. Just throwing this out there but we last week we ran a 2.9 0-60. We had a bone-stock GTR out there for comparison tests and it ran a 3.9 0-60.

Were you using the "launch" control feature or was this driver skill?

I looked these up this morning out of curiousity to see what they are going for price wise used. Mid to high 60's for a clean low mile car. Although I am wondering what the difference is between the GT-R and the GT-R Premium. Does the premium allow something like an extra 5 launches before the warranty is voided. :wink Just kidding, relax......I am not a GT-R hater (they do look much better in person) and would consider one for daily driver once the price drops a little more.

Of course I would really have trouble resisting the launch control button even knowing the problems it causes. I have problems with challenging authority. :devil

I'm looking forward to Mitty's review

I'm guessing that something has happened to this project sense Mitty posted his intent over five months ago. :confused

Maybe the transmission died before he could finish his evaluation. His reviews on the others cars were excellent, so I was looking forward to his opinions on the GT-R.

The launch control isn't actually the problem. The problem is that people would do 15 hard launches in a row. Basically it builds up a ton of heat in the transmission and just tears it up.

Nissan used Steve as their driver for the media and dealer release/introduction events up at Reno/Fernley raceway. He drove one car for two weeks straight and he would take around a dozen people or more for rides every day. Each person had the same launch control take off and there was never a single problem. I have seen quite a few GT-R's in Targa rallies and I've seen what we've done with our car and in my opinion, the transmission is fine. It just got a bad reputation because a few people were animals with the car and broke it.

To be honest, I don't remember if our 0-60 times were with or without the launch control. I want to say with but I'd have to ask to confirm that.

Another case of Operator error----

"The launch control isn't actually the problem."

Looks to very similar to the many 3rd gear starts and a burnt clutch in a GT.

The GTR is definitely a fine example of engineering and performance. In 10 years my GT will still be an iconic automobile. The GTR will probably be able to be had for substantially less than the original MSRP and will go the way of the NSX and Supra. My guess is you will pay more in 10 years for a GT than you do today.

It is nice to get the info on launch control from someone who has actually used it. There are morons with every car. Good to hear the problems were over stated. :thumbsup Thanks for the detailed response. :cheers

6 months ago the stink cost $100K plus. Now they can be had under $70K, new.

Not a sign of a legend by any measure. Performance aside, I think it was, is and will always be ugly - just my opinion.

Although they don't come close in performance, some BMWs look better than the GT-R.

I remember GTs bringing $250k+. Now, you can get a nice one $140k to $180k all day. No one is saying the GTR is gonna be a rare collectable, but Being as I have had several new GTRs and 100's of GTs, they are both remarkable cars. The fact that Nissan made a car with the performance a GTR produces for the MSRP of HALF a GT says alot. Im not trading my GT for a GTR, nor would I a GTR for a GT. They are totally different cars. I love them both! :thumbsup

(ok, maybe I would trade a GTR for a GT, but who wouldnt?)

Oh, and any GTR you know of NEW for under $70k, I would like to be pointed in that dirrection as I could use it! :)

I raced a ZO6 in one of my GTRs. The GTR left it at the light like it was standing still. I do like z06 corvettes. A little modding and they can be very fun! ;)
