Probably the worst spot on the track is the last turn before the straight in front of the clubhouse. A lot of concrete. When we were there a show-off with an illegal passenger in a new Audi R8 put it in the wall and merited firetrucks and ambulances.

I made first meet in Detroit. I have not been able to to attend one since due to distance and time. Looking forward to going back to Detroit. Northeast out of the question? Once in ten years? I have been to 2 FCA meets in Watkins Glenn. Base is usually in Corning due to accommodations. Wineries and roads quite nice. How about more Exotic location: Mont Tremblant track (old site of Canadian grand prix). Town quite nice and ample lodging. Montreal near by (wives would be content and great dining). Just a thought.

Does Spring Mountain have installed sensors for vehicle transponders?

Ralph, IMHO transponders are a thing of the past for individual time recording, anyway. Watch for a thread I'll start in the General Section.... (But, btw, I think SM has the sensors.)

Ron, when do you want to go to SM? You'll need to get a good rental car! The one thing that SM doesn't have is any kind of rentals.... not yet anyway.

The turn you are referring to is call Pahrump2 - immediately preceded by Pahrump1. Typically, these turns are a lot of fun but not necessarily problematic. In both of these, you pretty much set the steering wheel angle and you are steering through the corner with the throttle. The turns just before Pahrump1, just before the bridge is the one I was referring to in a previous post. If you over-correct an oversteer condition, wall contact can be a distinct possibility. It's just an area that you need to be careful in and like I said before, it is probably best to save optimization of this corner until you are comfortable with the rest of the track.

Thanks, Kendall - I'll look into them. I'm not sure if some of the older tracks like Portland and Seattle are set up for the new Solo devices. I'll check with the vintage racing people. The Solo device looks great for personal lap data logging, but I don't know if it is compatible with race timing software used by CSRG, HMSA, Sovren, SCCA and others, but I'll look into it. Thanks for the heads-up.

The Solo units are not particularly new. Been around since about 2000. The are not, to the best of my knowledge, sanctioned by racing organizations nor are they meant to replace race event scoring systems.

Having said that: for gathering tremendous amounts of specific driver and vehicle on track data it's pretty cool.

Hi Guys,
The track is set up for transponders.:thumbsup Kendall, the turn fjpikul is speaking of is actually from the old configuration that cut in just before the Michelin bridge, (I am not sure but I think they call that section sunset). They added sections to the back straight with a bus stop and a loop that take out that turn and have even added many more miles since these maps. I think we could set up a configuration that would allow for a great combination of speed, turns and elevation changes yet minimizing the chance for contact with any barriers. This is an old map, but you can see the line is what we were running that day. by adding the bus stop and loop that last little turn under the bridge is eliminated and no more barrier problem. Pardon my primitive editing, but I drew the areas on the second map.track_3.1.png

...and Ron, if you or any one else were out this way, we would love to see you -

Using transponders and having lap times available might not be the best idea for a GT rally, might also have insurance implications. Is it necessary to use as much of the available track mileage as possible?
I don't want to offend anyone but using every possible inch of track ala Miller Motor Sports makes it difficult to learn each corner let alone remember them. The track at Parumph has some really fun sections
that are relatively safe and some fairly long straights where a GT can stretch it's legs. A reasonable combination of both would make it a fun and safe track experience.

I only suggested the Aim Solo as a recommended tool to keep a log of your own track times and hopefully, progressive improvements. For events or racing, other devices may be needed. For me, the Solo is great because I don't have to spend any time fiddling with it at the track and I can focus on my own (poor) driving skill improvement.

I'd choose Daytona cus its close and its an awesome track. I saw 190mph on the front straight there back in April

Maybe Watkins Glen

But I cant really argue w Vegas & I may put a car on a trailer for that. Might have to schedule it for cool weather though

Since I live in the Boulder area I'll put in my chamber of commerce spiel for Colorado. Yes, all of the great canyon roads from Boulder to Fort Collins were hit hard in September but they plan on having them restored by summer, plus there's so many other good options deeper in the mountains and on the Western slope: Crested Butte, Steamboat, Gunnison, Aspen, etc. most within a 2- 4hr drive from Denver. Two 14,400 ft paved hillclimbs near Denver: Pikes Peak and Mt. Evans. July is best - beat the August monsoon season and the Mile High Nationals drag racing is mid-month. A couple of years ago the High Pains track opened about an hour East of Denver (www.highplainsraceway.com). Not much yet for ammenities but wide open like Miller Motorsports and some elevation changes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTtzwG64Y8A). Maybe we could coax Mr. Warmwater to track his car (no pressure Mike). There's also the Shelby American museum outside Boulder (www.shelbyamericancollection.org) for another lure to come this direction...

Don't forget the Hendricks (Discovery Channel one, not the NASCAR one) museum in Gateway, CO. Some groups do a driving tour, ie, don't stay in one location but have a drive every day to a new location with a 200 or so mile drive with places to stop and always something at the destination. The Denver and Arizona Cobra clubs do it like that. The western side with Telluride, Aspen, Gateway, etc. would be a really good place to do something like that. No tracks, but good places to see and things to do. It would depend on whether people prefer the track time. In some ways it would be like the last rally.

Hi All,
Spring Mountain held the first ever race on the full 6.1 miles of track this last weekend. :thumbsup Team Apollo had a particularly good day with P2 and P3 finishes in their class. :biggrin There were 30 cars on the course and it was a heck of a race with Monica passing two people in the last lap to take 3rd place. :bananaAs far as we know it is the first time for a woman to podium in the Radical series. I am very proud of her!
:biggrin:biggrin:biggrin:biggrin
We were so happy to have NOTA4RE and his wonderful children helping pit as well as FUTUREGT. :cheers
