How's the new book coming along?

Book is almost finished :). I finished a work contract last week, so I'm now desperately looking for other work. But... it means I have time to work on this. It's just a very tricky thing to do right. Laying out pages to look good is surprisingly difficult and a PITA ;-)

But it's gonna be a fantastic record. My only concern lies with the printing. It's a premium book in terms of content and price, but I'm concerned that print quality may let it down. The only company I've found to be able to print a 440 page book is Blurb, but that is only if I use their standard paper etc. If I could, I would get the book made using only the very highest quality materials and have a debossed cover and UV treatment to photos etc., but for a very small volume of books, the costs to do either of those is stratospheric, and would make it even more of a difficult decision for someone to buy it. So, annoyingly, I have to compromise on things I don't want to compromise on. Anyway, I'll be getting the first test print done shortly and report back :)

As for coming to your next rally...I need to figure a way :)

I'll bring my road bike too, but it will be the 3 cylinder, 675cc variety. God invented the engine so we wouldn't be required to pedal.

Amen!

Concerning the location for R9, I've been to four in person and four in spirit ... so like the equivalent of 6? Anyway, wherever it is Karen and I plan to be there. My thought would be someplace where it hasn't been held yet ...

Tony makes a good point about the driving roads in the Denver / Boulder area. These floods did not effect the SW Colorado area around Durango, Silverton and Pagosa Springs. God's country I tell ya. Top notch accommodations are available in Durango at the Doubletree. There is also a Marriott there and many others.

Excellent area! The southwestern area has telluride and crested butte. The hotel would be the Hendricks (discovery networks) with his car collection museum in gateway Colorado. I've stayed at the hotel twice and it's a very nice place. Run by a group now that manages many 5-star places in the westeron us and other places

In Durango I love the old restored western hotels right down town

The down side of that area is airline connections are puddle jumpers. Its a long enough drive from Denver that unless you're trying to rent some specific car it's better to try to fly over

One more edit: just to tell you how fickle the weather can be trail ridge road through Rocky Mountain park has already been closed for snow. It can be permanently closes any day now. I70 at Gail has chain law and looked really nasty this morning

A rally in the Colorado Rockies would be memorable. That said, do it in July.

Breckenridge err Frisco seems to have the large car gathering thing down with Vettes on the Rockies. Many great roads in all directions and closer to Denver for those flying in.

^^ok, I'll have to admit, that looks like a kick ass venue. I'm still voting for Vegas, though:)

soooo.......you're saying September or later is not ideal for a car rally.

Not on Colorado. There is new snow on the mt meeker and longs peak. I70 had chain law with nasty looki g stuff on the road at Vail pass. Trail ridge road will likely be closed any day. August would be a good time for a Colorado trip. Breckenridge or vail then to crested butte and/or telluride. Then to gateway for the museum over red mountain to silverton then to Durango. Back to Denver over wolf creek and I25. Might need to reorder things a little

Or we could crash in with a bunch of ford gts at the annual steamboat springs mustang rally. It's a weekend deal over Father's Day weekend in June then go on to gateway and pick up there

Having driven all those Colorado roads, plus most of the 4WD trails, that area has huge appeal. It would have to be before September though.

I'm looking out the window and there is quite a bit of snow on the Divide right now. It has snowed a few times already.

If you were there before you will remember it is 60 miles but only 30 minutes away!

Ed

Vegas would be nice, althout Pahrump track is 60 miles away. Phoenix/Scottsdale has a decent contingent of FGT owners, and has a number of tracks and resorts to choose from. Either one sounds good to me.

Cool photo Gary! At first I thought is was a Nissan ad, then I remembered your exceptional skills in photography.

I think I'm definitely leaning toward CO in August. The Vegas heat will fry my brain.

High altitude sucks the power. Plus it can rain anytime. I say Vegas. Cool roads, cool tracks & fun times! Plus it's the only way we will ever get Soroush to come to a Rally!

So my long lost friend ,does that mean you would actually show up????
You may be falling in to Stormcat territory !
That means changing your forum name to a less desireable one if you don't show!
I'm now ok with Vegas !

if its in Vegas I'll be there!!!!!

How about Watkins Glen? It's on my bucket list, and perhaps a lot of others.

Roketman has a lot of experience there, and I'm sure could do his normal great job of setting up some track time on one of the world's most hallowed racing grounds. There still has to be some residual DNA from the GT's of the sixties and six hour races floating around the track.

There is a new boutique hotel on the lake that looks really nice - although we would probably occupy all of their rooms. There are other lesser hotels and B&B's in the area that might be a satisfactory overflow.

Lake country and fall scenery. Lots of country roads for rallying. Wineries. ( OK I know it's NY! ) Balloon and glider rides - Chip can see if he can get a glider vertical!

I know weather is always a concern for the east, but it sounds like Colorado has some issues too.

Just a thought. I'll get there one way or another.
