This is EXACTLY a problem I had with mine, I thought it was bulb, turned out to be the contacts in the assembly.

Having been in the garages of one or two supercar manufacturers, and seen multiple virtually new cars with engines out, I'd say that, comparatively, the lump that we have behind us is indestructible. :)
