So Cal
I may get bashed...still dont understand why for +8mph in top speed and and -1 second in 0-60mph the z06 or zr1 is worth $40-60k+ over a base vette? They all look the same?

Just auctioned off at Barret Jackson for $900,000.00 (9 hundred gees) over MSRP for serial number 1, wholy smokes, that's some serious cash for Vette :willy

Freddy: Since its a replacement for the ZO6 I think there will be slightly more then 2000 made. More like 2000 a year.

As fast as it may be, its still a Vette and except for the fancy wheels, splitter, flares and see thru hood there's a gazzillion gabillion of them out there.

$900K for a ZR1 is a perscription for one hell of a case of buyer's remorse the next moring IMHO.

Well the winning bidder, a Chevrolet dealer, is probably in a high tax bracket so the car cost him about $ 500,000 taking into account the proceeds went to charity.

Next how much did GM provide for him to buy the car?

Maybe I'm nuts or maybe I'm closer to the truth than B-J / GM would like some one to be. Also how about Jay Leno being a shill for B-J at the auction. Probably requested by GM, so don't reject my idea out of hand. You never would have thought that Leno would have been a shill for anyone.

Evan...
I disagree...
Why???
Well every penny over the retail is a write off...
Meanwhile, what a great advertising piece, to own the first one...
That car will be worth something one day, meanwhile a nice tax write off.

I looked at it for a long time, I had an option to get a C6-Z06 at window when they came out, and passed. It does nothing for me.

Absolutely agree Daniel

There are enough people who buy Corvettes out there to make # 1 valuable in the future. Look what happened with the last Sting Ray, 1967.

Also the earliest C1 Vette I believe is serial # which has a huge premium on the price.

What would be interesting is how much some one would pay for the only documented, sold through dealer, ZL1 which is in Florida. That is an all aluminum L88 engine used for racing.

Dave,
I was at Christies when Leno auctioned off the first FGT.
Today he seems very tight with GM.
I am not going to speculate if anything went on, after all the Internet is a public place.
B-J is a great brand builder who has created a life style event.
Cheers,
daniel

I absolutely agree that B-J has promoted a life style and many people want to be part of it.

Yes Leno seems to be very, very tight with GM. They helped him with his crazy Toranado and other cars. So he is very nice back to them.

Dave:cheers

You are correct.

Actually there are supposedlyy three. A white one that is in Washington State at the Kevin Suydam Collection . The yellow ZL-1 is in the hands of a Corvette collector by the name of Roger Judski of Roger's Corvette Centre in Orlando, Florida. Both have been certified.

The third, is rumoured and has not been confirmed.

Also there were at least two press cars. One was white and the other was red. The Red ZL1, deemed the "Saturday Night Special" was equipped with an automatic transmission available from the L-88 and 4.88:1 rear end gears. Running 9" drag slicks, this car ran 10.89 @ 130 mph! And this run was driven by an automotive magazine editor, not a fully experienced race car driver. This same red car had the LT2 454 motor in it for the Oct 69 Motor Trend tests. Where has it been since? Has it been destroyed?

The white car was set-up for road racing. Current where abouts also supposedly unknown.

:cheers
Dave

the ZR1 is not a replacement for the C6 Z06. the C6 Z06 will continue to be made right up until the C7 replaces it in 2012

Is he the guy that got written up after buying 5 Vettes from a barn in California? If so I think he has a Camaro ZL1. I believe there are several orignal Camaros with the engine.

Also in 1969/1970 I was friendly with Don Yenko and I think he had a COPO ZL1 Camaro on his lot that we played with. We certainly drove the heck out of the regualr COPO versions and the Corvair Stinger going to lunch in Cannonsburg, Pa.
