Warped Vents

Carbon Fiber should be about $300 each and match factory originals

That would be a good option. I plan on having the first of my aluminum vents in about 3 weeks - will post pictures as soon as available. The CF would be good for those (BONY) that get CF wood.

I would be a player on some aluminum vents if you can get them close enough to spec. The original vents have a nasty little arch to them that I would imagine is hard to replicate on a CNC machine.

The ones I am doing will be close enough to OEM that they will look like they should. Originally had ideas for various types of modified vents (see earlier posts), but there did not seem to be much interest in those.

The new ones will be cast - the CNC seemed to be prohibitively expensive (as jtedm89 indicted) due to curves, cutting louvers, etc. Will be available either powder coated the black of the grills so maybe no painting needed, or left bare aluminum for those that want to paint.

And just as a teaser, I also have another small item in the works that some of you will like. More on that to come.

I will have vents in 8 weeks depending on the interest of how many GT owner want them. They will be just like OEM. Also they will be about 300 each.

Seems to me, the only vents I have seen warped are the ones that have had Acufab rear exhausts placed. I may be wrong, but I have not seen warping on the stock GT exhausts.

Not so.:thumbsdow My vent on the drivers side next to the rear window is warped. stock except for the trans cooler on the other side. :confused:frown

Great - Who are you? Have you been here before? Do you own a FGT? Are you jtedm from Wisconsin who was banned?

Other items you should be made aware of:
1/ This vent issue has been worked on by many including AZGT (Larry), Steve592, John M. @ Accufab and probably others.
2/ The cost from Ford for replacements is less than $300 ea. via Maurice or Torrie.

Excuse my mistrust but this was your third post and now you will have a miracle vent. Do you even know of the problem and why they are warping? Do you know of the additional heat indexing due to stock versus aftermarket mufflers?

Inquiring minds need to know! You might have an answer but 8 wks @ $300 ea. is to easy of an answer.... If they work - I apoligize but many have spent many hours to no solution yet..... More Info please! And if you have a GT, sign the register and welcome!

An update.

Top vent model is being made as we speak. Saw it yesterday - looking very good. Guys are doing nice work.

I'm pressing to have an (aluminum) example by the B-J dinner, but that may be cutting it too close - we'll see.

Dino, the number for the black plastic vents located on each side of the rear window is 6B670. I just ordered a set this week.
The paperwork from the dealer that replaced the two sets of louvers below the rear window show the following numbers:
5G7Z, 63403F22 and F23 for the outer black louvers
5G7Z, 403F18 for the center louvers.
The louver numbers are inconsistent, but hopefully that gives you a start.:thumbsup

KJRGT is right on the side plastic black vents

5G7Z 63403F22 AAA
5G7Z 63403F23 AAA

They are right and left (top two are the same number). I think they actually have a different price for each one. Go figure.........

Any day now - they did the first mold to get ready to do the preliminary cast aluminum, but wantd to make a couple of small adjustments / modifications to it. I am hopeful the first aluminum prototype will be done this week. Keep your fingers crossed - pictures will be up as soon as I have something :thumbsup

Update

Here we go - they are set to cast the first aluminum one tomorrow (Friday). :banana:banana:banana:banana:banana

Little tricky just because of all the ribs / slats. They may need to do some mold tweaking after they see the outcome, but we are making progress.

If all goes well, we are on the way to having the top vents to start, side vents to follow.

Congrats on the progress !

Observation / Question:
Those side ones are tricky to install. The shape is odd and they have to be bent and wiggled into place. If you don't get it just right they tend to bow in some spots. Like Ford made them a couple thou to big.

Have you seen damage to these?. Maybe I missed something along the way.

Thanks.

The sides do warp. Main thing is to make sure you have the bottom "tabs" hooked before screwing them down. I have not had any problem putting the stock sides on.

They will also come in aluminum following the top vents.

We Have Vent

Latest update.

They did cast last Friday, but had some issues, and cast two more times. The third was the charm.

I have in my hands the first CAST ALUMINUM TOP CLAMSHELL VENT. Looks real good. :banana :banana :banana

I need to do the typical casting cleanup on the gating and flashing, then will post come pictures as soon as I do the real test of putting it on the car. If the fit is right (it should be - looks to even have the correct curve), we are set to go. :cheers

Insulating exhaust reduces the life expectancy of the exhaust

Our prior experience with wrapping exhaust will shorten the life of the exhaust. Wrapping exhaust creates more corrosion and heat in the exhaust system than non wrapped exhaust. my 2 cents
