Time for some more power.

Hi guys. This feels great as I have been reading allot in this forum and I do feel quite safe about upgrading my blower as you guys help each other out allot.

I was first looking at a TT ( Heffner ) setup, BUT! Here in Sweden we have some rules about vehicles on the road, they have to be tested and approved for the next upcoming 12 months on the road. When someone install a turbo on a non turbo spec car, they have to reassemble to factory spec, get the test approved and then get the turbos back.
Also if the police stop us for a extra check and they have some smart ass cop who recognize the turbos
then we are pretty much f*cked, and you thought North Korea was f*cked up..

This is such a pain in the ass procedure so I will go with the Whipple 4L instead. I think I can get some big numbers on that one as well.

So on my late christmas list I have these goodies in mind:

* Whipple 4L with 21PSI pulley and carbon fiber air inlet
* 2 x JMS pump boosters
* Stainless steel GT full of road system De-Catted because I just saw Soroush SICK video with his black GT
* Accufab Monoblade ( because it looks more bad ass then dualblade )
* A remote Torrie tune as he obvious is the man behind all big numbers on a dyno with the guys behind the Koenigsegg engines

Now to my first questions from my installer:
What MAFia is the best for my type of upgrade?
My installer also askes if it is easy to reach to the fuel tank as he thinks that we should swap the OEM fuel pumps and skip the BAPs and go with GT500 47lb injectors with bigger pumps.

Have I missed anything?

Thanks

The fuel pumps are "easy" to reach but might be a bit more trouble to remove. I think you'll find that dropping the tank is the best approach. See my fuel system thread for a few pictures. Personally, I'd just look at putting a third fuel pump somewhere along the line. However, you need to keep in mind that electric fuel pumps can be noisy. Stuffing them inside the fuel tank muffles that noise quite a bit. If you add a third pump (outside of the tank) you are likely to be able to hear it. I think Torrie makes a MAF amplifier that has more flexibility than the mafia unit (I have no personal expeirence with it).

Good luck, keep us posted.

I highly suggest not doing an exhaust just like Soroush's especially if you can get tickets for being too loud. Loudest GT I have ever been around. Honestly for the street it's too loud.

At a boy!! You will love the increased power! I remember a post here where Torrie talked about the MAfia replacement, which he said would be a better approach.

Agree with Mullet - way too loud...

You may be a bit ambitious on the boost @21psi, noting your fuel is likely to be something similar to Shell V-Power, which I can see Sweden has the same RON spec as here at 98 RON. In which case your looking at a 93 US pump gas tune (based on AKI not RON). That is unless you are going to have access to higher RON octane fuels easily or try to tune to E-85(which would present other challenges in itself) This may limit your abilities to run at those high boost levels. I know it did for my all my whipples including my 4.0 and also previously my extremely heavily modified '03 Cobra and Kenny Bell s/c set up. I'm running at 18psi, plus CF custom air intake, and the car is insanely quick. That's considering I went from the 3.4 Whipple originally, which was already impressive. I'm sure Torrie will remote tune your car to suit. In fact I should hook with him and let him run over my GT remotely and see what he reckons.

My installer told me that we should get the EV14 GT500 injectors ( if they fit ) with ether way new pumps or dual BAPs and that should be ok for the 21psi load.
Or should I go with the 19psi and be safe and be sure that I will get less headache ???

About the exhaust, I like it loud BUT does the JBA headers and decatted "mid pipe" with an X pipe sound little bit less or is it loud as well? That option is straight as well.

I have seen people do ok 21lbs of boost without a problem and people run out o fuel. I think it depends on the specific motor and atmospheric conditions. It’s always cheaper to be safe. However, if you have faith in your tuner, then it’s ok to be ambitious too. If you do get it to run at 21lbs of boost, you will be on the teetering edge of the fuel systems ability. Any other error in the system could be catastrophic.

It will idle ok but as soon as the engine gets under load… it will be loud, people-calling-the-police kinda loud, just a friendly heads up ;)

Thanks Mark. I guess that I want the headers and a decatted midpipe because it looks better and is allot lighter than stock.
My installer told me that he builds the Cobra Jet engines in just 24 hours and has just finished a GT500 on E85 with 1000bhp. He seems to know what he is doing BUT I can be
totally wrong and as you stated it always depends on the engine and the atom-conditions.

Is 19 PSI the limit of the average GTs with stock fuel / Whipple 4L?

What numbers are owners seeing with that boost on 93?

It depends on how aggressive you want to get but I would say 750-780 is a fair place to estimate. A lot if the HP number depends on the type of dyno machine you use. Trust me, don’t base all of your hopes on a dyno sheet.

Ok buddy I'l try the safe way first. If I am not happy then I'l just add some $$$ and go with more boost or maybe the GTG intake.

To be honest I am doing it just for the sound, the way a chromed Whipple looks in the engine compartment and the biggest reason I want her to shoot flames when letting
of the throttle.
You know as we discussed on the PM.

If you look at this episode of Top Gear Australia they test a Whippled Ford GT. The first RHD GT!
The show is a very bad copy of the UK one but the clip when he tests the GT is very VERY GREAT! He says allot of fun stuff and the sound quality is superb.
This black beauty shoots allot of flames.

Have a look and PLEASE MAXIMUM SOUND IS A MUST!

That’s a good video, I hadn’t seen the Aussie review of a GT. That’s great that the FGT made the top super car time (too bad they only had 5 other cars on the board).

The flames are easy to recreate. It’s a tune issue. You’ll need to be careful with the rear bumper (seriously)! You may want to think about extending the pipes an inch or two, maybe a protective coating on the rear bumper. The wrap on my GT was pretty scorched when I took it off and the CF piece around the exhaust tips was visibly burnt (to the point that you could see melted epoxy)… but it does look super badass. My tuner threw a fit about the flames and wanted them removed. I disagreed with him and we settled on a reduced version of GT flamethrower show.

Do I need BAP for 19PSI as well? Making an order now thats why I ask.

I would, it won’t hurt the pumps and it’s and added measure of security. I setup mine to activate when the car came into >5 lbs of boost. My thinking was that if it is on all the time, it might over heat (it works just like a stereo amplifier) and you won’t know it has quit functioning. So I had it come-on when demand was high and turn-off (hopefully enough to cool down). It comes with instructions and recommend setups but they are easy to bypass. A seasoned installer will know why it’s important but if your guy hasn’t dealt with a BAP before he may not think it’s necessary to setup boost sensors.

If Torrie is doing the tune, he will know to look for all of these items.

That's my machine dude. Way back in the day you could see old links to my posts on youtube of the clip. As I said it was good with the original 3.4 Whipple and a set of less than great gripping Pirelli Corsas on the stock rims. Nowadays, 4.0L+ CF intake, HRE's with Michelin Pilot Sports = Nirvana for moi. I was going to tell you yesterday, the factory optional exhuast is all you need for enough loudness. I worry enough about attention as it is!

Thank you for sharing your car and the video, I had not seen that one before!

A few observations:
1. The only car that looks better than a gt in the garage, is a gt in motion, just pure art!
2. If you hit your head on the door more than twice a year, you may be the reason that hair dryers have warnings against using them in the bathtub.
3. We are quite fortunate to be ale to experience and care for such a piece of machinery!
4. Did I mention that I think this car looks amazing?
