I just took delivery of the much praised Nissan GT-R. I drove it about 400 miles over the weekend through hill and dale. So far, I'm impressed.

Full verbose and overblown review to follow...

Of course with the traction control in the default mode, or the new tranny is on DBK. I always look forward to reading your excellent car reviews and I am sure this one will not disappoint.

I will look forward to your review. Many people gave the FORD GT alot of bad media when they came out for the couple of issues they had. Now there is not much said about it and the FORD GT has gone in the history books as one of the best cars of all time. I have liked the GT-R since the 09 model came out and still do although alot of our GT brothers will NOT agree (and I can respect that, but dont have to agree :biggrin). Havent had any problems with any trans, but I dont beat on my cars either....
I await your review.

I often wonder what the GT would be now if Ford had the money to still build and develop it.

Would the 2009 Ford GT have ceramic Brembro brakes, a standard Whipple supercharger, launch control and computer controlled suspension?

I suspect if it did, it might lose some of the rawness we all love.

It also might be even faster...........

check out the latest issue of automobile magazine. they had a driver / journalist test a gtr and a gt2 porsche around the nurburgring on the same day with the same driver. the results are very interesting.

i like the gtr a lot. it cant be beat for the money. but it seems like nissan went to great lengths to make this car appear to be the equivelent of barack obama in the super car world. the launch control and transmission warranty issue even makes this more suspect.

Walter I hope you are driving and gaining views of interest versus looking at this noise.....

..... but I think somebody said DBK would buy a trans?

Look forward to the drivers report! I will be looking for another "airport" car in a year or 18 months and have always enjoyed the honest view you give.

GTR = ugly

Why did they have to make it so ugly? 10+ people take photos of my GT when I drive it. No one can tell me that would happen with a GTR. Uggh!

"launch control, computer controlled suspension?" bite your tongue, the reason why we love these cars is due to lack of them.

I don't think anyone on the forum disputes the performance and relative value of the GT-R. What does present an issue is that Nissan would bag the owner with repair costs on a tranny that doesn't live up to the rest of the car's abilities.
Yes, the car is ugly. Yes, it's probably too heavy. But, yes, it goes like hell for not a lot of scratch. Just don't drop the hammer on the transmission or you'll be out of pocket for major repairs when you shouldn't be.

I think it would have followed the Viper tradition and kept to its roots.
