So What Other Cars Did You Consider?

Confession time: I purchased my GT 2 1/2 years ago, it was my reward to me. Since I saw the prototype, it was on my wish list. In the 2 1/2 years, I put over 11,000 miles on it, loving every minute, no troubles, no costs other than "upgrades", tires and oil. On 11/11 I was involved in an accident, where after swerving, and "recovering", (according to a friend right behind me, who confirmed I was back under control), my right front tire went off the pavement, and the dirt alongside was more than a 6" drop, which means I was doomed. I totaled the car, actually just received the insurance check yesterday, and after 2 1/2 years of driving the car, 11,000+ miles (total of 15,600 on the car), my all in costs, I received $36,000 more than I put in. Now, I'm sitting on the cash and looking for a replacement. After much thought, I want the exact car that I had, nothing else is really "pushing my buttons", nothing else will fill the void. I'm looking, I will find the right car at the right price, and make it back into the car I had/want. A few on this board know of my situation, and a few are "looking" for me currently. There are a lot of cars I could buy for the money, but none of them will deliver what the GT does. By the way, the car did what it was supposed to do in the crash, it protected it's occupant. I was totally unharmed, after hitting the right front (tree), being spun around and having the rear hit a couple of more trees, catching some air and being sling shotted back onto the road (no airbag deployment, not a full frontal impact) (I had swerved to avoid an animal, have lots of experience in rear engine cars, knew what to expect, but still angry at myself), I'm thankful to the car for protecting me. Oh, let me be totally honest, two minor injuries, when I took a shower later that evening, I found that I had some minor cuts on the top of my head from some glass that had shot out from the window behind the driver's seat, and I broke a finger nail, removing the hot buttons from the seats. Buy the GT, you won't regret it, but if you do, you can sell it, and be much better off than you'd be in any of the other cars that you're considering!!!

About what I considered when buying a new super car this year it was between:

*LP640: Fantastic car with a insane V12 sound track BUT the clutch need to be replaced each 10.000 miles ( 20.000 USD here in Sweden ) and the tires has to be checked each 5000 miles because the 4WD system is sensitive to not having right tire thread.
*F430 Scuderia: Fantastic track day weapon but come on it is not that cool when it is parked next to a 458.
*458 Italia: INSANE toy that is stages ahead Scuderia BUT they have dropped 70.000 USD here in Europe in 8 months, and I am pretty sure that the light weight version is coming next year.
*Porsche GT2 ClubSport: Probably the most solid track day car out there with the 997 GT3 RS 4.0 but the Porsche Track Days are full of jerks and idiots so thank you I am fine been there done that
*McLaren MP4-12C: Fantastic, EPIC, insane and come on just the name McLaren is more power full then the russian tsar nuke. They have had some serious problems with the MP4 early this year and the cars that was for sale back then did not have the ceramic discs. Prices have dropped 40000 USD in 8 months here in EU.
*Gallardo SuperLeggera 570: Pure outdated porno, OUTDATED indeed.
*Gumpert Apollo S: Sick track day car but not really tested for real usage.
*Ford GT: Unique, timeless, SOLID LIKE A ROCK, investment, sound, people gives you thumbs up, legendary design, because people think its a replica GT40 that you self have built, fantastic owners forum, so low that you can pass 9 of 10 parking booms...

Yes this is what I was considering and I am so glad and proud that I bought the GT. If I had raised the price limit a little bit then I would have bought a Carrera GT.

The GT is a great car and a great thrill. Low cost to maintain, and beautiful. By the way the Roadster Murci cant keep the top on at 120 mph; it will fly off!

Did you or someone you know have a bad experience? Been around and owned Fcars for many years; 360s of all types (but early F1) have solid reliability.

Back OT: considered Audi R8, BMWZ8, manual shift 360/430. Briefly an Aston Vanquish. A great thread question.

I have to say. I always loved the original GT40s, but never thought they would build it again. When I saw the prototype at the Detroit auto show, I didn't think they would build the GT. When they did build the GT, I had to have one. Black no stripe for me.

I really like the Murcielago, but the Aventador just seems to be better in every way which takes away from it. Still a great car, but with the GT there are no compromises.

Here's what caused me to want to purchase a Ford GT40 if I ever had a chance when I experienced up front and personal at age 25 on our showroom from Carroll Shelby. The eye candy helped also. Ralphie, you remember those days? Enjoy Tomy.

The Boxer is vintage cool, and a likely good investment in years coming. Honestly, 340hp just aint what it used to be, but the car was 'it' in its day.

Quite seriously and at some risk of getting kicked off Forum, my well-sorted Pantera is more reminiscent of what GT is to me now, 32 years hence. Raw, brutal, cool as heck, undated styling, and bare-fisted fun.

To me Lambos are a tiny bit more exhibitionist for my taste, though undeniably a contender with GT for wallet and performance panache. The Audi R8 seems a step up in refinement - even elegance - from both cars. Fun to consider all the replies people have made.
