So What Other Cars Did You Consider?

Well, what I keep hearing is a full 25% of GTs have been wrecked/damaged. Seems like there is one guy out there who rebuilds GTs as a full-time business.

So I surmised from that is I needed to be careful....I break it, I buy it.

You grow in to it.

I can do a lot of things with mine now that I would have never considered when I got it 3 1/2 years ago.

So what did you guys consider?
I was considering a BMW Z8 or Aston Martin V8 Vantage. When I realized that I could swing a GT, the others were a distant second (and third).

If I had hit the Powerball jackpot last week, I would be adding a Z8 to the garage. Sigh... maybe next time.

Buy the GT. You won't be disappointed.

I did consider a Red GT...then a White GT....perhaps then a Black GT....lastly a Midnight Blue one....so basically only a GT.

I had a deposit on one of the first Z06s in late 2005 because my 1st choice, the GT, was going for $300K according to all the mags & the few people I spoke to (the 1st Z06s were going for over $100K). I went to my Ford dealer for a service on one of my vehicles & saw 3 GTs in the showroom. The showroom could only fit 3 cars in it. It's the oldest, yet the smallest, Ford dealer in the area. I was blown away; to not only see a GT, yet alone to see 3 of them together. The owner Dave said to not fixate on the listed price ($200K+ - obviously I didn't pay attention to the price) as it was negotiable. I told him my wife would never go for it but he said if your wife says ok to MSR is it a deal? I said good luck. When I came from work the next day I saw 2 framed GT prints in our entry way. Dave had been there & she said yes. I cancelled the Z06 order.

The 640 is no doubt one sexy and crazy car, and it's AWD. making it real easy to put the power down...but a little seat time in a tuned GT and you're running circles around the 640. GT's are easy to drive when compared to a Viper...but you do need seat time before you start hammering the pedal.

What Ed didn't tell you is, that dealer paid more for his own FGT!

Dave paid a lot to get one of the 1st GTs in late 2004. He went on to sell over 8 GTs from the tinniest Ford dealership around (but one of the oldest Ford dealerships - since 1911). He services over 30 GTs! He still has his GT & drives the wheels off it. He's not a businessman. He's a car nut! I'll never buy a car elsewhere!

Ed

PS I bought the white one from a great guy!

I considered no other exotic cars. I have also lusted after a GT40 since the 60's. I don't even need to drive it to enjoy it. I look at it every day when it's in my garage. I've put over 12,000 miles on it, spun it on the track, TT'd it, and driven it over 220 MPH. If I had money for a 2nd exotic, I'd buy another GT.

for me there was no decision to make. It was always the gt. Good luck in finding what you are searching for.

ditto for me!
I could not agree more with Chip.If I could have another exotic or erotic it would be a Ford GT.That being said, there are many owners who have more than one GT.And even more who could if they could! It is clearly something special.
We never hear of anyone regretting that they bought a Ford GT!

If you buy any of the other great cars, you'll still wish you had a GT. So might as well go ahead and get that out of the way first thing.

I looked at the R8, Gallardo, and F430. I did factor in ease of maintenance and depreciation and that made it an absolute no brainer.

I've never kept a car more than 2 years before. This spring will be 3 years for my GT.

Always wanted a Ford GT since I was a kid in the 60s - never thought I would get the chance.
I can relate to that statement exactly !!!

I considered the ZR1, R8, 430, Murci, Gallardo. Disclaimer: I did not have the opportunity to drive any of these first, and all of this is my opinion.
The ZR1 was intruiging, but not exotic. Not special, I see 50 vettes a day.
R8 and Gallardo (and 360) don't do it for me in the looks department, they look feminine to my eye. Plus in hindsight, the '05-'06 Gallardos seem to be selling for the same amount less than GTs now than the asking price was more in '07-'08.
Murci got crossed off because of upfront and maint costs and I hate flappy paddle gearboxes. I added ~100hp to my GT in an afternoon for $600 in my garage, a mod that would not void the warranty if I had one (FRPP pulley/tune).
I don't mind saying that the Lambo and Ferrari forums were a turn-off also. There are wonderful and informative folks on each, but it seems they are competing with other types, you won't find that here.

I've owned my GT for 4 1/2 years, put 17K miles on it and could sell it nearly for what I bought it for. It is part of the family now and will never leave, I don't think like that about cars usually. My kids hand out toy GTs to the kids in the crowds that gather around it (and there will be crowds). EVERYONE who sees it smiles and seems comfortable to engage me about it, fair or not the FCar guys don't always receive that kind of acceptance around here. My GT is almost 8 years old and is still relevant (in performance and the intangibles), 'why would you consider another car?' is the question.
