The taper design from the front main to the gear was my idea for supercharger applications (Especially my procharged deal), I also make the crank 1'' longer for more engagement on the new hubs for the balencer as the stock balencer only engages a hair less than an inch on the snout of the factory crank. So I have balencers made that are 1'' longer of hub and the head of the bolt now fits into the gilmer drive for the oil pump...
I have a bunch of pics I need to post and do a thread on of my motor build I just put together for my car.

Can't wait to see how your combo turns out Mark..What are you doing for headers?

Shorty headers was one of the first things Shawn did from me on this car. I wanted a system that I could attached the cats to if needed. As it turns out, there are many ways to get an inspection sticker without cats... but I also wanted to play with the sound a bit. The ability to use the cats and/or a muffler and or a straight pipe gave me the ability to fine tune the volume and tone of the car. Fish ended up talking me into using Flowmasters. I know that Flowmaster has a reputation for being the cheapest option for aftermarket tinkers but these cans were specially made for this application. Flowmaster manufactured them out of a high grade stainless steel material. The sound was much 'deeper' than my previous Borla muffler.

Shadowman offered the system on here for a while. Here are some pictures of it installed on a different GT. Real power gains were minimal and debated on this forum. It is my opinion that the headers simply converted a little torque into HP.

The coolest thing we did on the exhaust was put an Inconel shield on the entire system. It dropped ambient rear bonnet temps by nearly 100 degrees. We compared this as before and after temps in one hour of bumper to bumper traffic during a Texas summer.

What does John think about you running those with the new motor for how much hp you plan on making? I have 1 7/8 into 2'' step headers and 3.5 exhaust.

Marks are 1 7/8" primaries to a 3" collector. It's also a very tight radius primary to be able to get it all to fit before the collector. I'd like to have 2" all the way to a 3.5" collector but it wasn't feasible with Mark's original requested design criteria (terminate at the stock location with the same style joint). This allowed any rear system, that was designed for the stock exhaust manifolds, to be used. A big deal for the CA guys that wanted no cats but didn’t want to go through taking long tube headers off and installing stock exhaust every year for inspection. Mark's car picked up 20hp everywhere and from 3000rpm up it linearly goes from 20 hp at 3k to 50hp pickup at 7.2k. Baseline was Cast manifolds, Borla Cats, and Borla / Ford Racing Muffler. So gains over stock would be larger. The system was also 35+ lbs lighter than the Borla system and placed the weight much lower in the car since the cans lay on their side next to the transaxle. This was done to move weight down and open up the rear vent for more airflow.

The headers are 321SS and the Rear is 304SS. As Mark said the main reason I wanted Flows is that they sound the best in my opinion. Every time I hear some wicked sounding car rev up or get on it, the ones that always sound the meanest... when I turn and look, it's usually a built Mustang with big exhaust and Flows. I needed something of better quality with the same sound. The GT deserved to have that deep base, throaty sound that an open exhaust won't provide. Open exhaust like race cars just sound loud and raspy to me at idle and low revs. They sound great wrapped up but not at lower RPMs in my opinion. Having the Flows built by hand in 304SS was the quality we needed for them to deserve to be on a GT. In the end I still think it's the best sounding GT rear exhaust. Get giddy every time I'm in or around Mark's GT because of it.

I'm in the middle of a SC GT500 that has 1 3/4 long tubes and 2.5" rear exhaust that made 1085 whp. I'm installing 2" primary long tubes to 3.5" collector to 3" rear exhaust and hoping to end up over 1100whp. We built all the Inconel shells for it just like Mark's and expect the same 100F+ drop in under hood temps. This is the exhaust system that Mark needs for the SC build for best results but the shorties are already built. I think the plan is to see what it does and address it from there. The fact that they are 1 7/8 , that the rear is 3” I’m not as worried about it. Made the power on the GT500 with a smaller blower, stock heads, cams, with a lot less done to the motor.

Cheers

Fish wanted to do some calculations on the clutch engagement for the new clutch. I looked in the manual but couldn't find a section that listed the size of the master and slave cylinders. Does anybody here know the specs on that?

Cool I got 1 7/8 into 2'' into 3.5 exhaust on my GT. What blower on the GT500? That's the most power I have ever heard of a GT500 makin with a TS Blower. How much boost?

Sorry for the delayed response, been slammed.

The GT500 that made 1085 whp has a 3.4L Whipple with the "Crusher" inlet. Running right around 27psi on VP import for track events. 20 of course on the street. Did that with bottom end built and cams... NO head port work! Not yet anyway, it needs it. With the 2.5" exhaust.

Has our spare tire ice water tank and a 75 shot on it.

New changes are the 2" primaries, 3.5" collectors, and the 3" exhaust.
Our hot water bypass kit and intercooler / intake mod.

Our hidden 10pt cage, MoTeC, and Head work hopefully next.

Cheers

Where the coolant bleed spots are in the intake on the GT are still the highest spot on the motor, besides the 90 degree hoses that go to thermostat housing. You must be going to do an aluminum 90 (LIKE GT500) and put a fitting on top of that to get it higher than how the hoses adapt to intake? The only thing I don't like is the fact that they did not do a x over at the back of the motor like they do on the GT500's. The reason they have it like that on the Gt500's is because that rear x-over feeds the heater core. The 03-04 cobra mustangs had problems with cylinder 7 and 8 gettin hot's so there were a few companies that made kits to knock the freeze plug out at the the back of the head on the drivers side and bypass coolant out of there to get rid of the air pockets. The Ford GT's and the GT500's do NOT have the same problem as the 03-4 cobras did. I think it is a good idea though to add the bleaders to freeze plugs by the back intake ports and I am suprised ford did not do it on the GT. (Again none have burned up from this as with 550up hp on the cobras and it was a problem) I am doing bleeders in both of the back freeze plugs on both of the builds im doing, I will return the water in to the coolant fill tank. Will I gain anything from it idk?

Also are you doing a phenolic spacer under the blower? I feel no matter what the intake is always going to be as hot as the engine temp. The blower actually gets hotter than the motor (300+ DEGREE air coming out of blower) and when the air bounces off the innercooler (also the inner cooler is a restriction of boost as hot air compress's to cold threw core) the restricted hot air before the innercooler will heat soak the intake as the air its being forced threw the I/c. There is no way to fix this xcept for cooling the air before it hits the I/C

With my centrifical blower we seen a 10psi drop of boost threw the core to make 33lbs of boost after the I/C....Also the air before it was about 350-400 degrees.

Typical with a centrifical blower its 10-14 degrees of inlet temp per pound of boost (depending on effiency of blower). Its more with a twin screw but idk how much more. If you think about it, most of the Gt's with whipples around 20lbs of boost have seen 180 degree inlet temps in the mile. That is after the I/c that is hot for the low amount of boost, They heat up way faster than a centrifcal when being worked. All Fast twin screw cars have injectors before the rotors to cool down the inlet temps during the boost process. You can't even put a whipple 5.0 on a car with out injectors before the rotors or it will lock up.

Also whipple is coming out with a new 4.5 blower for the gt500's. I'm sure a kit could be made to work on the FGT. It will be interesting to see how much power they make on the gt500's....

Nice builld Mark can't wait to c how it turn's out:)
Does anyone know how the head hot spots were cured?

I was looking at the cobra head cooling kits, if the GT still has that problem, connecting the freeze out plugs in the rear seems like a walk in the park compared to the mustang.

Yes, this solution was a bit more than required to move coolant but I also wanted to improve the GTs "catch system" for air in the coolant. I suspect that several GTs get significant air bubbles in the system when the coolant boils and the current system doesn't do much to remove them. We are also adding the phenolic spacer changing the intercooler flow so it didn't seem like a big deal to add better outlets on the front and back of the block.

I got a couple of pictures back from John today.

The intake, all ported and polished. Per Shawn’s request we increased the size of the head serts from 6mm to 8mm. There is gona be a lot of fuel moving down that channel. I can’t wait to hear this motor… it’s going to be a completely different sound and I have no idea what it will resemble. It could keep its nasty American V8 rumble or with a 10:1 and a super light clutch, it could start to sound more like a high strung European thoroughbred.

Then the exhaust ports were coated with a ceramic substance to reduce heat transfer. It’s all looking very good for a 300mph mile run ;P
