Begs the question of why Ford went with GY.

No chance a Bridgestone was making it on any Ford circa 2002. Firestone/Explorer situation.

The Potenza RE050A Scuderia was developed for a car that ended production shortly after GT production commenced.

Ought to make a good daily driver or track car! It's hard to believe that an un-rebuilt salvage car is worth the original sticker price.

No kidding!! I never would have thought it, as far as it making a good track car believe it or not only one of the cars I have sold became a track car which mark just twin turbo and ran the mile last month. Salvage title doesn't keep it from being a collector car, they increase in value right behind one that has never been totaled. Beckert has bought several from me some clean some salvage and wouldn't part with any of them and his favorite out of the 4 he currently owns is a salvage and has increased $50k in value since he bought it from me 2 years ago. I love these cars and enjoy building them and putting them back on the road, if they were all totaled and scraped there wouldn't be any left 20 years from now. I already have 2 buyer lined up for this car and both are collectors. Scott give me a call tomorrow I would like to do some parts swapping with u. :thumbsup

Oh yes, I forgot about that one. Which is worst the Takaka air bags or Firestone on Ford? So far Firestone...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firestone_and_Ford_tire_controversy

The failures all involved tread separation[4]—the tread peeling off followed often by tire disintegration.[citation needed] If that happened, and the vehicle was running at speed, there was a high likelihood of the vehicle leaving the road and rolling over.[citation needed] Many rollovers cause serious injury and even death; it has been estimated that over 250 deaths and more than 3,000 serious injuries resulted from these failures[citation needed], with not all occurring on Ford Motor Company vehicles.[5] It is estimated that 119 of the 250 deaths resulted from a crash with a Ford Motor Company vehicle[clarification needed].[5]

Andy, I'm glad you are putting them back on the street!!! I'm still amazed and confused by the vast pricing difference...you sell rebuilt salvage cars for 170-180K and I have seen what I considered clean title cars on ebay for 210K or so sit there even though they may have 20K or more miles. I just don't know what matters more....higher miles...or salvage. Seems like people are wanting lower mileage cars no matter what. Just an observation!!!!

Thanks! There are several different scenarios for people buying a total vs higher mileage, color is one, the lower miles and salvage title seems to be more appreciated then a higher mileage car with unknown history as well. At least with a salvage title you know what your getting is the way some think of it. A lot of it has to do with the dollar, some people have saved for long periods of time just to buy a clean title one and the price increased faster then their bank account increased leaving them that extra 30-40k short of a non wrecked one. For instance one buyer pulled the trigger on a salvage tungsten that I had, and had he waited another month I would have increased the cars pricing another 10-15k.

Because it was the only company "willing" to make the rear tire, which was critical to achieving in excess of 200 mph.

True, and Goodyear REALLY wanted to be the OE tire on this car and was willing to do whatever it took to be the tire on our car.

Oh and ICE one of the big factors not mentioned in your Wikipedia post was many (if not all) of the owners involved in these tread separation incidents all had significantly underinflated tires. Underinflated tires undergo more flexing during rolling and develop high internal heat due to this flexing. This heat eventually has cumulative adverse effects on the rubber leading to, in the case of the Firestone Wilderness tire, tread separation and ultimate tire failure.

Oh yes I averaged 24 miles per gallon anything under 110 mph, on the autobahn at 145 mph a couple of hours and the tank was dry. What a ride.

??? And yet when you and Chris stopped by at our Rally 6 track event at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah and you ACTUALLY put the around-North America and Europe car on the track with us rally participants you never seemed to ever get over 70 mph and the flagman kept signaling you about faster overtaking traffic. It seems to me, IMHO, going 150 mph on a track with a helmet and safety support immediately available is considerably safer than negotiating low/high speed traffic on the Autobahn at the claimed 145 mph for hours.

Indy, I'm wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday season. Like Rocketman on long trips with a/c on and a constant open road pace the Gt has averaged overall 24 miles per gallon.
In Europe, pacing with 12 other Ford buddies while Chris and I traveled through Europe we averaged about 2 hours or so when on roads like the autobahn.
If you do go to Classic Lemans I think in 2016, it will be a trip to remember. The people through out all of Europe love and appreciate the GT , from GT40 to GT , everywhere we stopped , they were taking pictures and knew the history from the start.
A true world wide icon.
Enjoy the day .

That wasn't me but it could have been. I was looking at salvage title options when my 34k mile Tungsten came on the market. I chose the well maintained/documented "driver".

Agreeded! At Rally IX the attendees were shown a video about an upcoming opportunity to ship our cars to Europe and attend the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans race. Will you be joining the FGT owners for this event?

As you state the respect and admiration the European's have for a large assembly of GT40/FGTs passing through their streets will be memorable to say the least. This promises to be an amazing event.

Thank you, Classic LeMans is like no other with the exception of Goodwood and the Monterey historics. You must do ALOT of planning to leave from the states. GWBARTLETT helped out a lot as we planned our trip through Europe with the GT.
If you enter , stay and leave France alone, you will have much less hassles. The problem is , Europe is so beautiful that it would be a shame not to drive through most of it as it will be a once in a lifetime trip.
Stelvio, Lake Como, Austria , Germany and all the rest should all be seen if you have the means.
I might be their in 2016 because, I might be shipping my ETYPE.
GWBARTLETT and I have a fond love for our jags as well, driving through the Alps in a jag is like an old James Bond movie.
You must have paper work for all the countries or you will be in trouble. Its ALOT of work, but again a real once in a lifetime event.
The experience was so impressive that hopefully in the next 4 months or so, Ellie and I will have our DUAL citizenship to Italy complete.
Never thought we would say it but, Its a wonderful life on the coast of Italy and the Swiiss Alps.
Enjoy my friend, if you or others need any help or info , just pm or give me a call.
Thanks and Enjoy.

I'm glad you've all heard about the 2016 we're planning. I did show the Rally 9 attendees a short film giving a teaser of our plans for Le Mans in 2016. The planning for this massive event, exclusively for Forum members and your Ford GTs, commenced back in April, and I've been busy working from my London office with all my contacts across continental Europe to make sure this event will be as I wrote on the video..."The most important journey you will ever make in your GT". This really will be the once in a lifetime experience.

Those of you that know me, know my commitments to quality and my utter attention to all the small details. This event will be no exception. More information will be released soon. Timing is everything. Trust me.

Things must have changed or I got lucky. In 2006 my wife and I flew to Zurich, rented a car and for 3 weeks and with no set plans toured Switzerland, France, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands and England with only our passports. The only time we were asked to show them was when we landed in Switzerland and departed out of Heathrow. The entire trip was a fantastic experience and a piece of cake. Doing it in our GT's however I believe would take some serious planning mainly due to the limitations of the car ie; luggage space, tight maneuvering and overnight parking. Glad a professional is setting this up.

That's because you rented a car on the Continent and didn't bring one with you from the States.

SteveA, Sinovac is correct, if you rent a car in the EU it is like driving from New York to New Jersey or around the US , Each country in the EU is a state in the United States.
Once you cross either to Canada or Mexico, you need paperwork.
This is because your car is from a foreign country and registered so.
Believe it or not the Swiss are one of the toughest countries, a GT with ALTERED/LOUD exhaust can be eligible for big fines if you are pulled over.
If you prepare your paperwork and pay ALL your taxes up front, you will have a wonderful time.
You will receive , stickers for all the various countries to put on your windshield. This will speed your travels through each border.
Those stickers come with guidelines as you must give each country your timeline. If you overstay your welcome , even by accident, your car can be impounded and you could look at taxes and fines as much as 2 times the WORTH of the car!
GWBARTLETT , Is a great friend and has a wonderful collection of automobiles. He had a great business sense to go first class all the way with his passion as it pertains to shipping cars overseas.
I really do not think many of you will be transporting by jumbo jet, as said before it will be over 20 grand.
The Gt has one issue and that's size. As Bony looked into this years ago, a cargo plane if crated might need the car put on pallets and the wheels removed because of its size. Then crated to fit.
Ours was by cargo boat, stored down stairs from salt and sea air, it was strapped down and there could only be LESS than one gallon of petrol in the tank.
Your car will be weighed , xrayed and sniffed many times with the wand like in New York City when you enter a parking garage.
You risk your car for 4 to 6 weeks without a word while in transport.
Plan it that the car like ours arrived in Amsterdam 2 weeks prior, so when we arrived by plane we had the heads up it made it safe and all we had to do was go pick it up and sign 50,000 forms.
MAYTECH GT1 will be your best friend. You will need the overseas connections to make the trip a smooth adventure.
Also , plan for a rent a car or runner, just incase. EVERYTHING is stick shift so if your wife or partner are coming, brush up on double clutching just incase.
Hope I helped.
Steve A , Sinovac as always, happy holidays.
Below are shots coming off the boat with special friends and their cars, also on the track at LeMans , also not looking at the blonde, look at the windscreen and all the countries tarrif stickers to enter, save a lot of time.
