Hello,
I wish I could go along, as it is I will take a week for the rally and then we have Monterey Car Madness week. Bet you will take the crew through Death Valley?? My speedo was once broken and I think I went over the 55mph posted limit on some of those roads,... nah, I am sure I didn't. But some folks have been known to engage in spirited driving. Have a great run.
Cheers,
daniel:thumbsup

Now that we are getting to the short strokes of the California event, a couple last minute questions-

c) I would guess standard OEM seat belt is acceptable for track use? :frown :frown :thumbsdow d) Is there any prior tech inspection necessary? .

Thanks again for your effort in coordinating!

I would suggest not going on a track at any speed with only OEM seatbealts. I learned from experience after turning into the corkscrew wall at Laguna Seca at speed with one of my Vipers and OEM belts. I totaled the car and broke 3 ribs and injured my back. I would never get on a track again with only OEM belts!

EVERTTO,

Hi Fred, sorry I have not checked this thread in a while. It is looking like work is going to interefere with me going, but I am still looking into it. With that said, if any of you guys will be coming through Abq on I40 we should at least plan lunch or dinner depending on the time of day. The Margaritas are not too bad in New Mexico!
Let's stay in touch. If you guys are going to be down on I10, I understand.

Everetto,

Hope you can arrange to go, it is going to be another excellent event.:thumbsup

I'm running out to Scottsdale on IH-10, but I think there are some others going the IH-40 route.

There is a possibility that I may be heading back on IH-40. If we return that route, I will be sure to contact you.

Fred

Awsum, glad to hear you were ok after the crash!

And I agree 100%. I have installed the SPARCO harnass in my car so I am ready for any track use.

My point was for the other 80% of the convention cars who show up at the track wanting to participate NOT having anything other than the OEM lap belts. Would they be able to participate or would they be turned away because the OEM belt was not safe enough for track use in the eyes of the track technical people.

Livermore Performance has special hardware to mount belts and harness on our FGT's. I just ordered a set today. Thanks Jerry, and Ed for designing the hardware:thumbsup

As general anwser to the tech question with most open track events. Not the Saleen Event.

Out west you can run with only a factory seat belt in the intro groups or portions of a school event with some clubs.

To particiapte in the open track or time trials groups most require the following gear:

Snell 2000 or better helmet.
Long sleeve cotton shirt and pants.
Gloves.
5 or 6 point belt system. Belts should be within date code.
Mounted fire ext normally 2lb, some exceptions.

Auto-X groups - Can run bone stock in most cases. There are really no other cars on the track during an Auto X runn for you to hit or be hit by. These events are generally very safe. The run off areas are normally large with NO barriers. I would guess the Saleen event would be similar.

5 or 6 point belts were not a requirement at the event I was in when I hit the wall. I just wanted those of you that do not race ofter to know things can happen that are least expected. Probably less chance on an autocross course but it depends on what is near the course... strange things do happen.

Point proven by a certain red Enzo (piloted by a certain actor) that smacked a concrete barrier during a certain movie promo...:willy

Pch Caravan

For those going down the Pacific Coast Highway (Hwy 1 aka PCH) with Black Ice, Tom, Canibal, Issak & a few others we will meet in Half Moon Bay early Wed am. I will announce the meeting place soon. I went to scout it out today but it was raining (heavy coastal mist/light rain!) on the coast so I headed back to the valley. It's always strange to me how it can be over 100 & sunny & less than 45 miles away it'll be 50 & rainy! By the way, my Hoosiers did ok in the wet but it's still not safe. The valley temps should be lower by the Rally so that'll mean better weather on the coast.

Ed

Hi Ed,

What time do you anticipate rolling into the Malibu area? I'm thinking between my place and Newport there could be a couple of meeting spots which would make the caravan grow nicely along the way.

Hey Woboose...let's some of us 'local' guys meet lower then Malibu (say SM Pier) on Wednesday a.m. and roll together down to Newport?

Absolutely,

I'm thinking we wait for the troops from the North, and fall in along the way. Top of the Pier between The Lobster and the lighting store seems like a good place to tie up traffic. A quick photo op under the pier sign and off we go.

Sound good?

Dress code for the Rally-Newport/Scottsdale

As the time draws closer, my wife and daughter are asking about the dress codes for the various events both in Scottsdale and Newport Beach. I am sure they are not the only ones interested.
Dave and Chip...could you provide us some direction on this..
thanks - getting excited..

Wear whatever you want. I will. There will sadly be no Joey this year to enforce dress codes.

I think the "Beach" in Newport Beach is the key. We're like 10 minutes from the ocean. I'm sure the ladies will hit South Coast of Fashion Island to shop or Laguna Beach to hang out/eat/etc. It's gonna be hot, and we're in Southern California. I don't plan on wearin lots of suits.

Wear something comfortable on the road rally day. It's a seriously intense hike if you plan on doing the whole 250 or so miles, but it goes by real fast because you're so focused. I did it 3 times in 4 days and as soon as I got on the plane I was ready to go back and do the whole route again.

Though we will not be doing anything outside, the temperature here will be over 100 ° during the day. Polo shirts and khaki pants or shorts for men will be fine. Thong bikinis and miniskirts for the ladies are preferred! :thumbsup:biggrin Hey, it doesn't hurt to ask. Seriously, casual clothing that is comfortable in the heat is appropriate. No T-shirts or cut off pants at the El Charro Lodge.

Well, accoding to Chip, as long as they are khaki and you have a Polo shirt, you're OK. Besides, it will be dark :biggrin
