has anyone looked into the new intercooler in the 2011 GT500?

Yep, I discussed make a front wicker with my local fabricator but Rocketman suggested the project may be R&D and ready for us shortly. I'm hoping for good news.

Kip Ewing stopped by my office in Irvine last week for a couple hours and we discussed this very wicker among other items coming in the future from his workshop. Kip has told me in previous conversations that they had a similar front "Gurney" flap on one of the development cars and that its function was not conclusively proven to lower the temps. I told him that despite that I wanted one anyway and he stated that he intends to make them.

Which brings me back to reminding folks about what such a nice guy Kip Ewing is, full of knowledge and information on our cars as well as other cars and the industry as a whole. It is a genuine delight whenever he stops by and we spend some time chatting.

Yep, it is true.
We are working on radiator wickers at present.
These will be offered in carbon fiber as well as black urethane.

I am not an engineer, but some things make sense to me. The object of the wicker at the front is to allow air that is traveling over the front facia to go over the car at the roof line, so that hot air coming from the radiator, (and pulled out by the fans) can actually exit.....the more air exits, the more the cooling effect.

There are some additional mods all related in getting the hot air out of there...

After I test it next month, I will report on the findings...

Neither am I, but I agree, it just seems like the turbulence over the fan exits should help draw the air out a little better. That's why I was surprised to hear that in prototype testing it wasn't found to be a noticeable help. The way it was put to me was that the empirical data didn't show it, but the test driver's thought it did help some. Can't wait to give it a try.

Nice paper, but test drivers must of not spent too much time in 2nd gear on that test track.

WOT, high revs and low speed are a recipe for heat as the engineering paper states. Their is really no getting around it with the hand we are dealt ( the GT package in total). I've found that the driver can to some extent mitigate the temps using his head and feet. I wish you the best in your quest to improve the cooling efficiency.
