The transaxle followed by the engine and those pieces are connected to the main frame at 3 points. My guess is that the bumpers are so flimsy that an hit at over 5 mph would crush them like a soda can. The bumper is great protection from a accidental hit at very low speeds, like when parking, or a very light tap from behind, but IHMO does nothing for hits that would likely cause bodily injury.

Black Ice -
the bumper assembly is very substantial and is attached directly to the end of the frame behind the transaxle.

It is a work of art when seen w/o the covering.

This was my impression given the bumper weighs about 10-12 lbs, and the frame supports are a light gauge extrusion, but have a double box construction which is strong. I don't have any information one way or another since I haven't seen any minor impacts on the bumper.

Not sure of the exact weight of the bumper itself, which is all aluminum, but I picked one up the other day, with the extensions on it, and I would guess that combo is in 45# range. The extensions are not a light gauge material. I can get the weights for these parts fellow in the a.m.. if you want the specific's?

The weight is somewhat imaterial, as the GT had to pass the same Federal bumper crash stds as any other vehicle.

I assure you that the frame extensions have a wall thickness of less than 3mm, more like 2mm. I should know I recently removed the whole system. If you would like, I could weigh them and measure the thickness for you and post some pictures. US bumper standards have been relaxed substantially from what they were decades ago.

Exhaust

Thank you Ron for allowing us to do your latest round of upgrades. Here are a few pics of the bumper delete with our new exhaust. We had a set of Ford Racing tips "laying around" but the next ones will have different tips on them. The same X will be incorporated into the "Vintage Style" also.
Ron how do you like the new Penske shocks?

What can I say ?? I am so pleased I'm embarrassed !! IT IS SIMPLY AWESOME !!As I have said b4 the sound is just right no t to loud not to quiet, livable! You must post a sound bite. The shocks unreal !!Talk about being on rails!!Took my wife for a ride last night. We were doing a few on off ramps when she said honey 9o mph on an exit ramp is to fast with both of us in the car.The funny part is ,I was taking easy because she was with me !!I strongly recommend the single adjustable set up!!With the inter cooler mod I have not seen my temp gauge go over 200 ! Even at city speeds!Thank you Alex!! Rich and Dennis are really terrific !! Thank you oh so very much !!! Did I tell you how pleased I am ??

Bumperette Protection

Anyboody have a yellow car with GT Guys delete?
Here's what I wanted. I like the looks and the slight protection of this altered bumper. What do you think? Bumper delete looks great but I think this looks as good. Another Option from one of our great supporters. I personally like it very much. I won't have trouble finding my Gt in the parking garage in Austin, Texas as most of you know. Tomy Hamon

Tomy thanks for the post and pic. I pulled the trigger earlier this week with Shelby doing the work.

You ever get out to Midland?

Update

Well it is finally done. The new Vintage Style bumper delete and the car is done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:banana:banana We also took it for its first ride and it was very nice, no drone and not any louder than the Heffner or Accufab. If anything it is a little more quiet and has a different note to it as well. I will have more pics tomorrow night as we plan on taking it out for a cruise on Sunday. Ceramic coated true X-pipe and we even managed to carry over the license plate lamps. Of course I had to do a custom plate for the car. I figured it was the only option. :biggrin

And those are the best tips you guys could do? Sorry boys, I'm a little disappointed. The rest looks swell though.
