I don't think there is a huge difference in HP # between the 3.4L and 4L. As soon as I get some dyno number I will post them up.

The 4l is good for 30lbs of boost. Were as the 3.3 is good for about 25 max on a 5.4. I would hope that the blower is going to be better than the 3.3. Can't wait to see your numbers. I hear that my billet crank is going to be here today and then i can get my short block built as i am building a specific motor/combination for this blower.

When speaking to the guys at Whipple they didn't expect huge HP gains from the 4L but they did expect it to make boost quicker (if you can imagine). So they said their will be more power under the curve with similar boost. They also said their car got 775hp on 20lbs of boost. It was pretty much stock except for the blower and throttle bodies. I am not sure if that is a "conservative" tune or not but I am hoping for similar results.

Good luck on your build. The billet crank sound interesting... post picture if you have time. We are all gear heads here. :)

The Gt500's have made 858rwhp on race gas with 23lbs on the 3.3. I hope that the 4l with more boost will make over 1000rwhp with the engine i am building. We are doing some different stuff with compression and cams and its going to be on e85 and e98. So detonation isn't going to be a issue. Sounds like my crank will be here tomorrow, so i will get a pic of it and post it when it comes in.

The laws of physics are still in play no matter how large your supercharger is. You will still be limited to a similar level of boost on pump gas so the power increase on pump gas will either need to come from a reduction in parasitic drag with the new unit or increased efficiency which results in an air inlet temperature reduction. On race fuel the larger unit should make a nice difference with the increase in available airflow.

The supercharger is out. It was childishly easy. I'll let you know how the install on the new unit goes tomorrow.

Hmmm that easy eh, dang. I must find out then why my mechanic has me waiting around for his hoist to be free mid next week to get my existing unit off? He was going on about access to belt from underneath? :confused

I'd have like to have had my existing unit already boxed up and sent back to be sold, with the new unit on the way shortly after that....

Do you have any photos of the Gen 3?

The only hard part about the install was getting the new 10 rib belt in place. It helps to have stubby Torx bits to remove the oil belt cover. Also I loosened the lower EGR pipe fitting to aid alignment with the blower.

The 4L doesn't get here until tomorrow. (I hope it has all the necessary parts) I will post up some pictures then. I know the tricky part will be the belts tomorrow. I am hoping the access window makes it a bit easier. GT Guys, feel free to toss some good hints my way :)

Mark, you planning on running the 19psi pulley?

You will find that the install of the new SC is pretty straightforward as well. You might consider replacing the oil pump belt as long as you will have it off. I would recommend taking the tensioner all the way off as it makes it much easier to remove/install the belt. Pay VERY special attention to the unique tensioner alignment marks. You do NOT want to make any mistakes with this belt! The alignment marks are above the tensioner and hard to see. Before removing the belt, notice the alignment marks. I like to use a mirror as it is easier to see it this way. Again, make sure you get this part right.

On the other belts, double and triple check belt alignment and that you are not off even 1 rib. If you are the belt will shred.

As BlackIce noted, loosening the lower part of the EGR tube will make alignment to the SC much easier. Use OEM 2-step torque sequence and settings on all 8 SC bolts. DON'T over-torque.

The belts are supposed to be the tuff part but getting the supercharger was a one man (2 hour) job.

I am going to try to run the 20lbs pulley. They are sending both but I don't know which will be installed on the unit. Do you need a press to install pulleys on the Whipple?

Thanks for the advice. I will take it to heart. :thumbsup

Pullies are bolted and not pressed onto the Whipple. The GT Guys R&R'd my blower without removing the engine access cover or belly pans.

They are like GT gods... they just look at the belts and they jump on the pulleys.
