what kind of gasket is in between the intercooler and the heads? is it hard to remove?
The intercooler doesn't bolt up to the heads. Here is a basic list of where the gaskets are located on the intake manifold/supercharger setup.
- supercharger flange to intake manifold - metal gasket
- intake manifold outlet flange to head - metal gasket
- intercooler flange to the intake manifold - no gasket
The metal gaskets just "pop" off. They don't have any silicone applied so there is no clean up necessary on the flanges (ie. scrapping).
I didn't find it very difficult to remove the intake manifold. Just time consuming. But I suggest that before doing work on these cars one should have patience and reference material (ie. service manual).
In order to get there you need to disconnect/remove any associated hoses (that connect to other componets). Remove wires that connect to the manifold. Slip the supercharger belt off the pulley. Drain the intercooler system. Then unbolt the manifold from the heads and lift off.
I purchased a Ford GT Service Manual (DVD) on Ebay. The DVD is absolutely awesome and provides all the information required to do the majority of work. Pictures and step by step process.
