Just curious if anyone has tried a wing on their car yet, something along the viper line?

I would get in contact with Matech or the Robertson racing team. I can't imagine that it's going to be an easy task on the stock bumper, but those guys both run giant park benches in the back. I think the car actually looks quite good with one, but you really need a full body kit to get away with it. The rest of the car isn't quite aggressive enough to pull it off alone.

I'd like to see someone do it just because.

Here you go.

I don't think anybody has done it on a street car though.

I had discussed this with Kip last year when he came out to my house. He told me that a wing can be accomplished without a body kit and without much modification. Kip told me that he is hopes to do a wing in carbon sometime in the future.

I'd go for the "Wing"

Not a chance...

Are you kidding?

Shadowman would go for my throat....:rofl

wouldnt the car need some front end downforce added if a wing is put on the car otherwise it would create a lot of "push" with rear wing only ?

I was thinking along the lines or the Viper aero package, this includes a front splitter. The ACR version includes special shocks and springs to compensate for increased down force. I was thinking more in the line of the aero package, Just something new to do.

A friend of mine has an 08 ACR. I think he told me that the aero clipped 15-20 mph off of the top end. I guess it depends on what you want to do with the car. My Terminator with a pulley and chip can take an ACR on the top end. My GT is about 25mph faster stock for stock.

It would be a major concern of mine, the car was designed to be stable at top speed as it left the factory. Change the wicker, the dams, defuser without going in a wind tunnel and you could be in trouble at wot

same thing I have been looking at... wanted to the wing and full package on my silver car but worried about stability issues...

Ford nailed it with the car the way it is and scared to mess it up...

but oooo I would love the big wing :biggrin

I suspect the racing teams using the wings on their GTs have sorted it out. I don't know if they used any wind tunnels, but I am sure they have a lot a track time to sort it out. I believe all of the cars with wings have modified the aerodynamics on the front end as well.

The good thing about the 2 DIN, it doesn't upset the balance of the car!

Ice...
No idea... ALMS cars don't hit 200mph, run on slicks. Can assure you the waring came from a well placed source.
No worries for me, I never exceed posted limits,

Edit: I was wrong...

I'm with you, I always obey the laws of man and nature, so a wing would be more for aesthetics than function.

Since there is a follow-on conversation on wings and aero balance on this post; I guess I should elaborate. I don't recall the specific details of the conversation GulfGT and I had, but aero balance is a critical consideration.

Could a wing be added without any compensation up front? Sure, but with a lot of consideration to the effect. At some point, you cross the threshold where you've added enough down force or drag at the rear that changing direction becomes problematic. It's a discussion of orders of magnitude. It is the difference between a change for styling and a change for functional improvement. Execusion is everything.

Just like a few guys noted, adding downforce (or drag) at the rear of a car is a lot different than adding it in the front. Things have to be developed as a system, if there is going to be a functional benefit.

When I do the wing, it will be with the benefit of the full compliment of aero aids, airfield rental, actual pitch couple measurement (at vmax), and consideration to the aero load paths, etc...... In other words, a ton of work and expense...

Guys are wise to not monkey with the aero balance unless the changes are fully engineered. The team got the baseline right.
