....if you had not got your GT. I mean we are all car guys and progressed through different cars till we got to the exotic level. Personally I know I looked at just about everything for a couple of years and kept coming back to the GT.......even though it was just a Ford. :wink

BTW.....this question is moot for those of you who have more cars than you know what to do with......and yes I am jealous if that describes you!!. :biggrin

A stradale or a scuderia were the two other cars on my list when I decided on the GT.

Stradale: pretty car, no torque
Scuderia: manic car, not very pretty, can't argue the performance
Porsches were not on the list only because they are too common here, i wanted something exotic.

For a while I did not have the GT on my list because I was thinking of paddle shift cars only (so my wife would maybe drive the car) but then she said she'd drive the GT if she wanted, so standard shifters went back on the list, and then the decision was easy - nothing else looks as good AND delivers great performance AND is relatively uncommon to see

I did something irrational to buy the GT, because it was a Ford and the only one (no new model coming the next year etc) I could somehow justify it to myself. If I did not have this car, I would not own a 100k+ car.

I worked my way up to a GT.

Had I not bought the GT, I maybe would have stuck to Aston Martins. Other supercars just didn't feel quite right with me in the drivers seat - I had to have a few to find that out.

my next sports cars will either be some kind of corvette or a lambo or a ferrari.

a twin turbo Gallardo would rock my world......

as far as drag cars go once i get my camaro down to 10 seconds flat in the 1/4 i will then begin the process of building my ultimate drag car. that being a blown bad boy fuel altered dragster on a 120" funnycar chassis. the motor will be a 1500+ hp supercharged V-8 guzzling alcohol. i want to run at least 8 seconds flat in the 1/4 and i want the car to be 200 mph capable. so i will build the chassis to be NHRA certified to at least 7 seconds flat. the motor will more than likely be a 500+ CI hemi or chevy with a 14-71 blower. alcohol motors can be spiked with nitro and so i will name the car "the Rattler" and paint a rattlesnake on the side.

Before the FGT was announced, I was on the fence between a Gallardo or an F-360 (later the '430)...and leaning toward the Gallardo.

But, when Ford announced their intent to build the GT - game over.

While I like the looks and the comfort of a few of those EyeTalian cars, the cost of keeping them up is ridiculous. I have loved the style of the Ford GT since the mid sixties and when the new model became available there was just no question that I had to have one. If not the Ford GT, probably nothing in the "exotic" category.

-Lambo Gallarado: too snub nose; no red; base MSRP $165K

-M-B 600 SL: geezer-mobile

-Viper: only real visceral contender...came very close.

-Corvette Z06: close, but needed more

Was on a web-site looking at above, and a banner ad appeared for a car cover company: Ford GT was in ad.

Bought a GT 7 days later.

:thumbsupI just purchased the FGT in Sept. 2009. I had my heart set on a Murcielago and was out shopping for one when I first saw the FGT in person. I am from a small town in a rural area where the most exotic car is a Viper. Not ripping on the Viper I owned one and it was a brutally quick car.
The Murielago is a great looking car but once I saw the FGT and its body lines I fealt the Mucielago paled in comparison. I am a very happy FGT owner.

I think what he may have meant about Porsche is that unless you are a car guy they all look really similiar. To the average guy a Porsche is a Porsche. They can't tell a GT3 from a boxster. It does not evoke any stong emotions. I talked to a friend who is a Porsche guy and he grudgingly agreed. Kind of like a dentist. Aren't they all interchangable? :lol

The only real contenders for me was the F430 spyder and the SLR. Loved the exhaust note and drive of the F-car but the maintenance and the fact that I felt like a d*&# getting out of it ruled it out. Still like the SLR, but even now they are still over-priced. I can't see any car making me part with my FGT. First time I ever have thought that about a car. :thumbsup :usa:driving:

Being a DDS (as you probably deduced), I am a bit sensitive to the comments that can be construed as a put down. Not all of us wear square toed metrosexual shoes and pay to have our nails trimmed. :ack

I for one can build my own house, build my own boat engines and am a Ford Die hard (including my boat engines) and yet have a yuppie BMW as a token of Henrik Fisker's greatest design work. Now I have a long lusted for GT.

Also, Not all dentists are interchangeable. You have those who are dedicated to giving you their best and those who run "clearing house" type practices. But I am sure you were teasing Skyrex. :wink

Never being a Porsche Guy, I have to admit that the 911 series is what many consider to be the epitome of sports car design.
