Here is a someone who drove the same car for 82 years!

Mr. Allen Swift ( Springfield , MA.) received this 1928 Rolls-Royce Picadilly P1 Roadster from his father, brand new - as a graduation gift in 1928. He drove it up until his death last year.....at the age of 102 !!! He was the oldest living owner of a car from new. Just thought you'd like to see it. He donated it to a Springfield museum after his death. It has 170,000 miles on it, still runs like a Swiss watch, dead silent at any speed and is in perfect cosmetic condition. (82 years). That's approximately 2000 miles per year...more than some Forum members put on their GT!

How cool would it be to see a 102 year old dude driving that thing around.

I have had the Mustang in my signature for little over 5 years....longest I have ever owned a car.

My Ford GT! I've had it since 2005 and it's the longest I've owned any car.

Not counting next year.

The worlds nicest CJ-5. 20 years. But after driving it just 6000 miles in those 20 years, I am finally going to sell it as soon as I get around to listing it. Factory AMC 302 2bbl, 4 spd, factory air, tilt, tach. All numbers matching.

What is the odometer reading on that one? I can guess that the average mileage per year is less than 20! :lol

I can't beat EP in years owned, but I can in miles. 68 California Special Mustang, I've had for over 30 years and have never driven it. Not even once.

I'd hafta go out to the shop and look, but, I think it's around 78K...and my grandfather put all but a couple hundred of those miles on it himself. (Shuddup. I KNOW whut yew be thinkin'.)

He bought it new in 1937 (I think it cost him around $879.00 or so). He walked WITH the car as it went thru the assembly line and actually drove it off the end of the 'line himself. He then drove it home (here). My dad (God rest him) and I restored the car in the early 80's. We left the areas where Grampa's hands had worn the paint off the steering wheel alone...as we did the hole in the rubber floor mat that his right heel had made by the "foot feed". The ONLY thing different on the car now from when grampa owned it is a set of whitewalls. He'd always run blackwalls on it...so, he probably turns over in his grave every time I mention the whites! Grampa would also have a fit over the money that was spent on restoring his car! Redoing the stainless and chrome alone cost far more than he'd paid for the car new!

I'll own that car till the day I take my last breath. It will then become my lil' grandson's. And a BIGGER car nut you'll never meet! The lil' guy is cars, cars, CARS all day long! He L-O-V-E-S "Lightning A-queen:lol" and the rest of the cars in that movie - and the cartoon character "Roary the Racing Car" as well! His favorite part of the "Cars" movie? THE RACE SCENES!!! He couldn't care LESS about the story line stuff! (He's not even "two" yet...)

The lil' guy literally must have at least 4 dozen cars of all kinds and sizes...ditto TRUCKS! But, cars are his thing. He IS his grampa's grandson!!! The 1st thing he does when he walks into our place is point his lil' finger towards the computer room and say, "Want cars..." He wants me to take him in there & bring up racing videos on the 'peuter!)

I used to ride with a guy that had a CBX and like passing while doing a wheelie, It is amazing to look in your rear view mirror and see 6 cylinders up in the air while he zooms by. The normal car drivers were not amused.

Great story, EP! :thumbsup

Ironic that this topic came up today. Here are the longest running currently in my garage:

1965 Mustang convertible, purchased from the original owner 24 years ago TODAY (didn't even remember how long I'd owned it until I checked the title just now!). Originally a six-cylinder 3-speed. It was a high-school graduation gift to the original owner who could not learn to drive a stick. She had the 3-speed replaced with an automatic. For several years she had given me "first right of refusal" if she ever decided to sell. Phoenix Suns player Larry Nance had second dibs, but he didn't get it!! :biggrin Currently undergoing a complete restoration with a HiPo 289 and independent rear suspension.

1967 Jaguar E-Type roadster, purchased 23 years ago this month. The only known surviving car of the four examples painted by the factory in the test color "Oyster". Many other features factory test-fitted that were later incorporated in the production line.

1990 F-350 crew cab 4WD purchased 21 years ago. 148,000 very hard miles with essentially no problems. Winch, oversize tires, fifth-wheel; lots of off-road, rough terrain, and heavy hauling use (20,000#+ loads). It was my daily driver for years, and we even took a couple of vacations in it. Certainly one of the most versatile and reliable vehicles I've ever owned (rivaled only my my Excursions). This truck has been jumped 6' off the ground - ask Team Jeff for details! :lol
