Tubi Exhaust Resonance

Installed a Tubi exhaust on the GT and have experienced a bad resonance inside the car as I drive most noticeable around 2000 rpm when accelerating. I have installed Tubi exhausts on three of my other cars and they all sound great with no noticeable resonance. After talking to the Tubi distributor they indicated I needed to "drive it for 1000 miles" and then let them know if the problem "goes away" with the premise something will change over time. Tubi claims I am the first GT customer to ever voice any concern over the exhaust so I am wondering whether I may have a defective exhaust or I am just too picky. The exhaust at this time (approx. 50 miles logged since the exhaust change) has a distinctive odor of something burning so obviously something is "cleaning up" inside the muffler.

My question - has anyone else experienced a change in the resonance over time with this exhaust or am I simply being humored by Tubi. The other tubi exhausts all sound great so I am not ready to write off this Tubi exhaust yet. Is it possible changing the tips (it is the only Tubi exhaust that has megaphone looking exhaust tips - which look great on the car) to a smaller diameter could help this situation? Any advice or input would be appreciated.

Hmm, putting a thousand miles on it seems unreasonable.

If it were me, I'd go run the car hard. Get some good heat cycles thru it and see if it changes anything. If the exhaust sounds the same after that just call them back and tell them you put 1000 miles on it and it still has a problem.

Tubi

Welcome to the world of resonance. I too have a Tubi and experience the same annoying drone on the street. I've put 6000 miles on the Tubi and it has not got any better. I've also got about 2,500 track miles on it - still the same. Your point about smaller tips is good. I'll join you in asking for a fix.

It does sound great at WoT at the track however. I have a parade of folks telling how it's always the best sounding car out there.

You might want to get in touch with Bill (Shadowman). He made some baffles for the tips of my IDA catback which are suppose to decrease this drone. Another member was very happy with these baffles on his Accufab. I have not had a chance to test them out yet. They are easy to insert without removing your exhaust.

John Gourley on this forum has had a Tubi since the first rally in August 2006. He participated in the exhaust sound comparison which is archived here on the forum. You might PM him and see what his experience has been. I see you are in Tulsa - me too!

I think you have to expect a certain amount of discomfort with any exhaust change. Just remember to look at that monster you replaced, give a little to get a little.

Seems fairly consistent that no matter which after market exhaust is used, the drone complaints are always at the 2000 rpm level. I suspect the shape/construction of our cars just have some irritating harmonic at this level.

Yes, indeed, and if you are using the FRPP rear exit headers, you won't have any hearing left either! That's why the drone is gone.

My Heffner has no resonance, no drone whatsoever. It just produces sweet music.

Agreed that logging 1k miles is unreasonable. Some will never get there or will take a very long time.

We have dealt with this problem before

Most exhaust system will have resonance at around 2000 rpm. I have tested many different exhaust systems in the past. I have found only one Corsa Exhaust works. Corsa began with a sound resonance cancelation technology years ago for off Shore Boats. We installed these system on Vipers and the resonance dissapeared. Just my 2 cents,..... Dan Vargus

I had one of their systems on my old GTS & it did get rid of the drone. Unfortunately, they don't list a systemn for the GT. Their exhaust tips are the best tips in the business, so much so, I've seen other manufacturers copy their style of tips. For those of us with the stock muffler, I wonder if something like these Corsa tips could be had.....

I had no drone with my Accufab, sold it to another FGT owner and he had drone...
please explain... I am baffled, not a pun or a suggested that I ran baffles. :)
