HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Touche Clinton!

Perhaps now I've been lucky on two fronts. First my OEM gauges never faltered and second, neither have my Speedhut gauges.

Because the GT40 has a British heritage.
Certainly the gt40 didn't use Lucas. Shelby should have known better by then

For the love of God why is gauge stuff so problematic at every turn. The gauges on my 92 Viper work fine as they did right out of the factory . I don't get it.
I think it's a GT anomaly. I've never had a bad gauge in any car I have ever owned - and Speedhut seems to have a QC issue. Too bad; I was going to buy a set for my white one, but I may reconsider until I hear they've worked out their issues. BTW, if it's only an inverter and it's not an SMT part, it should not be tough to swap out.

British=Lucas - AKA "The Prince of Darkness"; hence why British beer is served warm. "Refrigeration by Lucas"

So maybe the solution to the GT gauge problem is Lucas. Just get them to make a set. They will be intermittent. But the will work some times and not others (unpredictably) but only rarely fail completely (that was the experience with my fuel pump switch on my Cobra). If nothing else it will be entertaining.

On the Lucas? Standup comedy is hard. Everyone tells me I need to keep working on it :) But not to quit my day job. Not gonna do that.

Lucas employees worked a lot of overtime, but still manage to never work past 5pm. Are you wondering how they did that? The time clocks were also make by Lucas.

I've previously posted about the inverter problems including a picture of smoke coming out of one failed inverter. After 2 failed 12V inverters I got an 18v one and installed it. By now I have had my gauges out and reinstalled 3 times! I'm good at taping up the dash and removing the gauge cluster. The 18V inverter hasn't failed (knock on wood), but with the dimmer control on high, the back lighting flickers. I've turned the dimmer down slightly which stopped that problem. The voltage inverters are probably cheap and put out "dirty current" resulting in the flickering. If this one fails, the next step for me will be to buy a good inverter myself and splice it in for the backlighting.

Ok, so some issues. Obviously not ideal. BUT, for $12xx I have a functional dash. I would have had to spend way more to replace OEM (only to potentially fail again) Yes I HATE the fact they don't look perfect, but what's the other option? Waiting a year or 2 for an OEM solution (or what ever the duration of time is, if ever), doesn't work for me. I went 6 months with out a tach or worse oil pressure.

Ya, on the Lucas. That pic was truly comical, sad, but true...

The GT guys have the bezels sent out to look exactly like the stock ones and they did the same for the backing plate and I must say they look awesome!

Does anyone think Ford will replace the gauges for free? I wonder if it's going to be a $2000 rip-off. Does anyone trust their Ford dealer to do the job?

$2000? Maybe for one gauge. Think higher.

Wow, Jason, that sucks. I was really leaning towards the Speedhuts, but now I'll wait. Gone two years with two gauges bad, (have replacements) what's another few months or a year. I can't even get started on how I think Ford dropped the ball on this, particularly on the HALO car. I am hopeful they will offer some solution soon, and IMO should offer some assistance if not pay for all costs (yeah, I know good luck on that one). OK, my crybaby rant is over, still love my car.

It was great meeting you and Rob and the host, Jeff at his house on Wednesday. Also really fun to meet Rich and Dennis in person, what great and enthusiastic guys they are. They are very patient answering questions about our GT's even if your car is in FL and I just came to watch and meet a few forum members. I may go back today depending on the weather. Some storms in the works for today it sounds.

You have a beautiful car Jason, and if this problem pushes you over the edge, I'm happy to offer you $50,000 more for it than you paid for it. Hope you got those unsightly bugs off the front of your car when you got home.

My experience with Speedhut has been great. I just sent back a gauge to have the face and needle color changed. It cost me $35 ouch! When they sent it back they forgot to include the backing nut. I called them and they next day'd me two of them. Less AR makes life much easier :)

I have stayed positive on the Speedhuts despite my documented problems with the inverters. I like the look, love the shift light function, and can tolerate the backlighting issue. They (Speedhut) did respond to me every time I had an issue (bad speedo, bad temp gauge, and 2 bad inverters). Things seem to be sorted out for now. Plus I have a fully intact OEM gauge set put aside. I wonder what an OEM solution from Autometer will cost per gauge?

I have an update for folks. Again, if you have the 12v inverter please call them and have them ship out the 18v version.

I finally got to the right folks and they are going to help me out. They agree that they should have been more proactive in notifying the GT owners that will have issues, and that has been my main gripe.

They clearly stand behind their product.
