I would love to hear the final product.
Please give us your impressions after the install.
It's sooo small!

The OEM enclosure is very small too; have you ever had your's out? If not then your would be very surprised; I know that I was. The OEM subwoofer extension into cab has little to do with the OEM subwoofer enclosure but rather the space required because the OEM amp is located behind the subwoofer.

As for the sound quality; it exceeds the OEM many times over; and the looks once installed; priceless.

This enclosure was as much designed and then fabricated it is not simply a place to put the subwoofer.

The internal volume is exactly the same as the OEM Big Mac enclosure. I measured the internal volume by filling it with water (4,250 ml) and Shadowman designed an enclosure that fit the designated space, did not restrict seat travel, looked indistinguishable from OEM, and equaled the internal volume of the OEM enclosure (which it does at 0.15 ft3). Sound quality should be equal to the OEM configuration given that sub-woofer frequencies are both non-directional and subsonic. I will give my honest impressions and post a few photos after I complete the installation this weekend.

That's great that you were able to get it to fit in the car so nicely.
Did you guys check to see if the original sub enclosure had the correct air space requirements for the OEM sub.
It would not surprise me if Ford just slapped the sub in any size enclosure.
I just finished working on a system for my F150, so I will try to pay a little more attention to the GT in the coming weeks.
When are you guys expecting your enclosures?

Great question; Ash designs and builds custom speaker enclosures as such he was given the OEM enclosure from which specifications were taken and then an initial enclosure was fabricated. It was tested and then in fact Ash elected to do a minor tweak to the design because he felt that it could be made to work even better. As the result of this the final piece was fabricated and installed into my gal with results that are "FRICKEN AWESOME !!"

The OEM speaker truly sounds great and by subwoofer standards is a unique design. Yes; there are other OEM's that have something similar but there is no doubt that this subwoofer was deigned to operate well in an enclosure with little internal volume as such NEEDS to be a sealed rather than a ported system.

Lastly; the first batch of enclosures has already shipped with the balance to ship in a few days.

That is all I know

Regards

The sub is ported through the center of the driver cone. A unique design that I have never seen before.

Sometimes it is nice to be reminded as to why we are doing what we are;

Here are a couple pictures that (at least for me) tell the whole story

I call these simply ...... as ordered and after completion; there is no doubt that the OEM subwoofer enclosure's finish work with the leather wrapping is very nice however no one can convince me that Macintosh as well as the GT Team did not cringe once it was installed.

As I have stated on several occasions; I ordered my gal with the Mac and am very happy I did. The conversion for me was painless and I consider it simply a wonderful finishing touch and my way of now having the best of both worlds; the cool stereo and the more traditional retro looking sports car interior as was originally designed by the GT Team using the alternate OEM interior trim panel. Furthermore once the conversion/relocation of the subwoofer and the amp was completed it too appears to be of OEM in design. Knowing that I could convert it back if so desired is comforting and yet I suspect that the pieces removed will forever remain sealed in plastic as little more than a reminder of days gone past.

Soon there will be approximately 20 others relishing in the fruits of their labor as they too complete this very cool conversion.

New Speaker Enclosure - It's Here!!!

I just received the Fed-Ex delivery. OMG, those of you awaiting the custom speaker enclosure will be totally blown away by the quality and appearance of this magnificently handcrafted piece (at the bargain basement of price of $400 I might add). I'll do the install tomorrow and promptly post photographs and give my impression of sound quality vis-à-vis the OEM configuration (which BTW I am confident will be as good if not better). I always knew the Big Mac had to go, but frankly I never envisioned a solution this perfect. I must give total credit and appreciation to Shadowman for his commitment to excellence and the goodwill he so generously extended to the GT community.

UPDATE Sunday 12-03-6

I felt that it is important to share what has happened over the last couple days so all that are watching this thread remain informed.

First of all; "Thank You" for all the wonderful comments from those that have received their subwoofer enclosure. I have relayed the message to Ash and he appreciated the comments as well.

ACRJoe had an unfortunate twist of luck. His subwoofer enclosure arrived Friday with the shipping box damaged; a fricken hole in the box with the corner crushed in; he said it looked like it had been stabbed with a forklift or fricken drop kicked. Initially there appeared to be only a very minor flaw on the subwoofer enclosure as the result of the box being dropped (as he described) it is in an area that only the most anal could find so it was installed to which he said "OMG this is beautiful" however the excitement soon disappeared when it was determined that as the result of the impact the subwoofer enclosure received when it was dropped the speaker inself was damaged. From what I understand he had a local stereo "GURU" look at it and apparently the voice coil or ?? separated. The subwoofer enclosure is presently being re-boxed and shipped back so Ash can take care of it for him immediately.

Having shared this I chatted with ACRJoe today and he was upbeat enjoying the weather and while we were chatting he was exercising his GT so as he said "life is good".

UPDATE Sunday 12-03-06

I just received a call from Ash and was informed that the remaining subwoofer enclosures have been completed. I will be picking them up later in the day and then will make best efforts to have them shipped tomorrow, worst case they will leave with FedEx on Tuesday.

Thank God you did not ship them UPS, or how I like to pronounce them "opps". :wink
If FedEx damaged it, UPS would have destroyed it! :lol
FedEx sucks arse too, but they are the lesser of the evils. :biggrin

BTW. If anyone needs any Sound quality Reference CD's, I have some.
I have an IASCA test disc, a Soundtream dealer disc, and Sheffield's Drive (which is considered to be the benchmark of test discs).
These discs would be pretty hard to get now, so anyone that may want a copy, let me know. I will drop one in the mail for you for free.
I would love to hear impressions of the sound quality using Sheffields Drive, before and after the sub box swap. For the sake of copyright infrigement, please destroy the discs after you are done testing. :biggrin

It's true but this event in way no detracts from the incredible craftsmanship of the enclosure. It's just the nature of the shipping business. Today I got to take a beautiful ride in my Ford Gt with my little French hottie by my side ..... what % of the population can say that? As shadowman said life is good; really good.

Post some pics of that bad mama! (If you're wondering which one I mean, I've already seen the car). :biggrin
