So Cal Ford GT Rally to Las Vegas

Would appreciate some thoughts and suggestions for those of us who want to caravan to LV from the So Cal Area. Since our members are spread out over a considerable distance and we probably have the largest single concentration of FGTs anywhere, some plans would be nice to get us together an in line into Vegas. Please drop suggestions here.

I would think a meeting point above Cajon Pass on I-15 would be the easiest. Either at the IN and OUT hamburger in Hesperia just east of the Cajon Summit or at the Outlet Stores east neat Barstow and the Old Highway 58? Maybe we can induce the Central Cal FGT owners to meet us at the outlets just west of Barstow, on I-15, Wednesday late morning before the Rally which starts Thursday in Las Vegas. We could then caravan into Vegas as a group.

I assume there is underground parking at TheHotel???

What about meeting at the Ontario Mills Mall. Right off the 10 & 15? I believe there is a Dave & Buster's there with a large parking lot. I can verify next week, I have to run up that way. I love In & Out, but that location's parking is tight.

If we met there in the mid-morning, that would set us up passing through Baker around lunchtime. We could hit up Bun-Boy for lunch, then haul-ass to Vegas from there...

I haven't taken the GT on this route before. I think we would be ok with the fuel factor if we topped off in Ontario & Baker....that is if Randy doesn't antagonize anyone to exceed the speed limit. And Herb wants to maximize MPG...:biggrin

I haven't taken the GT on this route before. I think we would be ok with the fuel factor if we topped off in Ontario & Baker....

I've done it....and only had to stop in Baker after filling up in Woodland Hills. But my right foot was pretty conservative. The 15 is pretty well patrolled in parts.

as a side note....the fuel was about 40 cents cheaper per gallon in Nevada than LA last time I was there (2 weeks ago)

Baker is a good place to stop...

Baker fuel is about .50 to 1.00 higher than Ontario last week.

An interesting thought is to cut through the road to Pahrump from Baker then down to the 15. It lets out near the South Point Casino. About 45 mins longer but a great un-patrolled road and some twisties and elevation changes along the way. A far more entertaining drive. Some movies have shot along this road. One part makes you think they stuck a hwy on the moon.

Also a nice Kansas flat stretch about 5 miles long with about 5 miles visibility. A person to remain un-named broke 180 here GPS'd in an 04 Z06.

I may be able to clock this in the next few weeks and take some pics.

If looking for the route via map quest you would enter an address of say Spring Mtn Driving school. Dave and Trasi would likely host a water stop at the track if we asked. May even set up gentle lead and follow session around the track. All depends on what folks may want. Pretty confident we could get some hot laps with the instructors Dave and Victor in one of their cars.

!5 is pretty boring. You should look at coming in through Death Valley, there you will find some amazing roads, and less LEO's.

Sub-route

We live in the Palm Springs area and do NOT want to drive I-10 and I-15. With that in mind, I have an alternative route for those from Southern Orange County and San Diego by way of Palm Springs.

Take whatever route to Hwy 74 (a great mountain route) to get to Palm Desert/Palm Springs.:wink

We can meet at my home for a break for those of you coming over the mountains. Lots of secure parking. From there the Southern contingent can take Hwy. 62 to Twentynine Palms, thence Amboy Road to Amboy, thence Kelbaker Road north to Kelso and on to Baker (at I-15).

Rendevous with others from other areas of So. Cal.:banana:banana:banana

From Baker, we take Hwy 127 north to Pahrump and on to Las Vegas by Hwy. 160.

This avoids freeways all the way and is a much more interesting drive. From Palm Springs, this route adds only 38 miles to the boring freeway route.:cheers

Of course, everyone is welcome to join us in Palm Springs (or cut over to Twentynine Palms and join up with us there).

For those interested in this sub-route, let me know of your interest and I will get you directions and phone numbers. By the way, there is room for 3 couples to spend the night at our place if anyone is interested. We would plan our departure to allow us to meet up with others at Baker.:biggrin

Here I am. Been MIA again since June 18 when I was in NYC. Had a good time in Vegas. We did some hot laps carting at Pole Position & Fast Lap, I believe they were called.

Tied up since with all of our challenges out here in Hawaii.

Need to get in touch with Kendall to get my Whipple, boost guage and Kip CF installed before the Rally.

AlohaGT, you Dawg, Get it done. Currently off St. Petersburg, Russia and there are definietly no FGTs here. Saw a Shelby GT white, silver stripes in Copenhagen but Scandinavia is not the place for high performance autos.

Looking forward to following the AlohaGT across the So Cal Deserts to Vegas, my friend. Bonyacious, a most excellent time. Throughly enjoying this cruise, daughter and family are excellent. Take Care and as the Bony always says. GBA!

I'm am good to go. Just want to solidfy a game plan for an awesome caravan. Back roads sound great. Let's decide a meeting place and a route. Otherwise this CA boy is going to jump in the AZ caravan, gravitational pull is significant.
