I'm planning to start my drive to Vegas from Laguna Nigel. Does anyone want to start a caravan to the caravan before Ontario Mills Mall?

OMM is okay spot but then we still have the traffic up the Cajon Pass. Another spot is the In & Out Drive-In in Hesperia at the high desert top of I-15 just after the Cajon Pass?

I believe the In-and-out is a good spot. The parking is good and there are filling stations around. I've got at least 3 coming from the San Fernando Valley.

Does anyone have a route planned out? If ya'll are meeting in Hesperia does that mean going straight up the 15? I'm interested in going to LV as a caravan but I'd rather take a more scenic (read less traveled) route if anyone else is game. PS: I'm departing from San Juan Capistrano.

O.K. I'm looking at 2 options since I'm in the Valley.

1. 14N to 395N to 190E to 95S =8 hrs. (through Death Valley)

2. 210E to 15E = 5 hrs. (through nothin' but traffic)

Any other options to add? What time are we planning on hitting Vegas? We can work back starting times and place to meet from there.

I'm in... depending on time.... would like to pick up the sister and her husband at the LV airport...

Rick, I like #1 which could also be modified to just cut over to the 15 from Mojave..... to lessen the trip..

either way though.... I'm aboard...:thumbsup

we need to get some of the SO cal boys to sound in. Mid September crossing Death Valley? I'll pass on that one, it will be hot enough going up I-15.

Was thinking of getting to Vegas 1-3 PM, pool time once we land at the Hotel, right?

I am assuming we have protected underground parking at TheHotel?

I think there is a reason they named it "Death Valley" but I will join up with the group no matter which route is selected.

We live in the Palm Springs area and do NOT want to drive I-10 and I-15. With that in mind, I have an alternative route for those from Southern Orange County and San Diego by way of Palm Springs.

Take whatever route to Hwy 74 (a great mountain route) to get to Palm Desert/Palm Springs.:wink

We can meet at my home for a break for those of you coming over the mountains. Lots of secure parking. From there the Southern contingent can take Hwy. 62 to Twentynine Palms, thence Amboy Road to Amboy, thence Kelbaker Road north to Kelso and on to Baker (at I-15).

Rendevous with others from other areas of So. Cal.:banana:banana:banana

From Baker, we take Hwy 127 north to Pahrump and on to Las Vegas by Hwy. 160.

This avoids freeways all the way and is a much more interesting drive. From Palm Springs, this route adds only 38 miles to the boring freeway route.:cheers

Of course, everyone is welcome to join us in Palm Springs (or cut over to Twentynine Palms and join up with us there).

For those interested in this sub-route, let me know of your interest and I will get you directions and phone numbers. By the way, there is room for 3 couples to spend the night at our place if anyone is interested. We would plan our departure to allow us to meet up with others at Baker.:biggrin

The offer is made.

Jim, Barb, Pit Dog Peanut, Pit Pussy Piper Alley and the Mothership

Due to LA traffic being a nightmare in the mornings I am leaning towards taking the route that Jim has described here. This route appears much more do-able for those of us departing from Orange County / San Diego. I would appreciate the opinions of others leaving from OC / SD! It might be necessary due to time constraints to take Freeways to HWY 62, but from there on it would be all "back-roads". Any thoughts on this? :cheers

I'm game for anything. We just need a plan. I am terrible with directions, but I can follow a car, given a set meeting time and place, and a rough idea of total distance, and a place to stop and eat.

Anyone up for making a rough itinerary?

I'll vote for Death Valley, but I-15 is also fine with me. When you have 10+ Ford GT's any trip is a fun one.
