I did a search and not a lot of info, some swear by it, but when I asked Rich (GT Guys) he said it only reduced the throw by 15% and increased the shift effort. I put one in my NSX and it reduced the throw by about a third and there was no increase in shift effort, which made it a no brainer. I'm really loving the car, the shift is a little long, but the effort is so nice and easy. Just thought I'd throw it up there for those that have made the mod, and love it, and those that made the change and don't think it's worth it, please post up your impressions, I'm still on the fence!!!!

Love it. No way I'd go back to the stock shifter. It's enough shorter that it's noticeable, but not as much increased effort that you notice that.

I've had aftermarket short shifters in 4-5 cars and this Ford Racing shifter increased effort/stiffness less than any other aftermarket shifter I've tried. That being said, I don't really think the stock shifter is inadequate unless you're really trying to bang gears. I don't think you will be dissappointed in the Ford Racing shifter if you find the current one a tad long between shifts.

I am very happy with my short shifter. In fact, I made it a little "shorter" by mounting my after market shift knob lower on the shifter than is possible with the stock knob (the after market knob's threaded hole is drilled deeper than the OEM knob). Be prepared for a bit more effort (the laws of physics require it). The effort is most noticeable, of course, going into reverse because the spring load is high even without the short shifter.

I wouldn't return mine back to stock. The increased effort is slight, not significant IMO. The price is cheep, it's really a good quality piece.

I was in a conversation a while back with someone in the know and it sounds like these may be drying up. Dont wait too long, they may not be as easy to find as they once were.

love it. Wouldn't go back. Also I have Jay's lowered shift ball. More of a direct forarm push on the gear lever. Rather than a shoulder shove with std lever. Very positive with metal bushings.

Reverse is two hands. No big deal.

The 2007 Ford Racing Performance Parts Catalog is as follows:

FORD GT SHORT THROW SHIFTER
M-7210-GT
· Fits Ford GT only
· Reduces throw and cross gate by approximately 25% compared to stock
· Anodized billet aluminum and stainless steel constuction
· Bolts in stock location
· Includes hardware
· Maintains production ergonomics by not relocating shift knob

It's about a 25% reduction in throw, and the brass bushings make the shift gate require more accuracy which is probably what people think is a greater effort. I like the more positve shift gate. Some owners who don't have had the rubber bushings of the OEM shifter re-installed on the short one to make the "shift effort" more like the standard part.

My vote - Yeah

The short throw shifter is a good piece of kit. I also think it's better than the stock shifter.
