** UPDATE **

The machine work on the block has been completed, the custom CP pistons that were treated to Teflon coated skirts and ceramic coated faces and then wrapped with hand fit stainless steel rings are on site, the rotating assembly has been methodically balanced this after the crank was magna-fluxed and then the journal sizes verified and then it was micro-polished....,

*** UPDATE ***

I have asked BlackIce if he will do as he did the last time and upload a few pictures of the progress through whatever medium that he has access to.

You will see that the custom CP pistons, the stainless steel rings, and the light weight Manley I Beam rods (a paltry LOL 32 grams lighter per rod) are becoming one and that the fully massaged crank is being reintroduced to the block wrapped in Federal Mogul’s Speed Pro bearings as well as the fully assembled short block complete with ARP's latest head stud offering rather than OEM head bolts. These head studs are their 2000 series that allow for a head torque of 100 ft lbs which is "HUGE" when compared to the OEM torque value of approximately 65 ft lbs when you consider the torque to yield value. Furthermore the use of head studs insures a much more even clamp load and torque retention over time.

Almost makes me want to blow up mine just to have it sent to Area 51:rofl

It does make the pain easier to swallow, knowing if a mishap were to happen, Shadowman will make if better than new!

*** UPDATE ***

Well we are just about ready to place this gal's heart back into position.

Here are a few pictures as the creation of this "Redhead" continues.

Sadly you will see that the primary cam chains are not in place because I ordered the incorrect hydraulic chain tensioners; I ordered those for the cam to cam chain rather than the primary chain as such the process has been delayed by a few days otherwise we would have her heart in place this week-end. The reason for the new primary can chain tensioners is the fact that they have a molded in place o-ring that if not replaced pose a concern for oil pressure loss at these points.

FYI: the reference to “Redhead” is the description of my engine builds with the powder coated red valve covers being the finishing touch. You will also see that the original build tag is sitting on the valve cover and will be properly re-secured before she leaves.

I prefer blonds, or brunettes, and Fords are always blue, but very nice nevertheless!

Take a look at coolant passages in the block on the early photo and then look at the coolant holes in the head gasket. Note that many of the passages are reduced in size and the ones at one end of the block are full size. I have read posts on modularford.com that the mod v8 has a tendency to overheat the rearmost two cylinders. I have also read that this has been address in the GT motor. I believe these photos confirms that.

Does this make it a Ford GT "Testa Rossa" ??

Absolutely not; these gals are thoroughbred "Ford GT’s" many of which have distinctive personal touches.

In this case one of my personal touches are the powder coated red valve covers aka the "Redheads" which when chatting in Italian certainly means “Testarossa”. FYI: my personal gal was outfitted with her powder coated red valve covers almost from day one; as I recall she had nearly 50 miles on her when she was introduced to the powder coated red valve covers and the black Whipple supercharger.

Now having said this; is there a component of my days gone past being seen here; absolutely as I always like a red heads and in fact enjoyed my “Testarossa” very much however her heads were a different shade of red and as fixed to a low slung 12 cylinder boxer motor that by comparison to the heart within a "Ford GT" was anemic and yet in her day she was "DA BOMB".

My ex-wife...and several ex-girlfriends are redheads. Unfortunately, they weren't 'fixed to a low slung 12 cylinder'. :lol

**** Update ****

Well after a very long road the gal’s heart is not only back in but she is presently being exercised in preparation for her trip to the Rally.

As with many projects; what began as one thing became something entirely different.

Her heart was thoroughly massaged complete with alternate rods, special ground billet cams designed by John aka Accufab as the result of his previous engineering work on these gals. In fact the sticks were not only furnished but also installed indexed by him, Ferrea stainless steel intake valves and custom Inconel exhaust valves each wrap in magnesium-bronze guides inserted in to a pair of fully ported heads, custom pistons that were both thermal ceramic faced and Teflon coated skirts along with stainless steel rings, ARP 2000 series head studs, Stainless Works exhaust system complete with small metal bed cats, and the list goes on. I dare say that her heart was massaged from stem to stern.

While she was resting her transaxle was treated to the 3.90 gears as offered by Stillen as well their wonderful AP clutch package.

We also tended to many “a-typical” service items as well as freshened her up by cleaning and painting within the engine bay, removed her old clear bra and replaced it during which time we also increased the coverage, and we also reached out to the team at Whipple and they upgraded her supercharger from the Gen 1 to the Gen including the latest drive snout assembly.

Then there were a laundry list of personal touch items incorporated during her stay with us; several of Kip’s very cool carbon fiber pieces which included the carbon fiber binnacle, the carbon fiber/leather center console cubby, and the carbon fiber door pockets. We also integrated Michael aka FreeFlyer’s OEM appearing 30 PSI vacuum/boost gauge, an iPod interface neatly located within the center console cubby, Shadowman’s subwoofer relocation system, Don aka SafeCraft assisted with a pair of modified safety harness bars, Brembo assisted with the custom painting and letters of the calipers, and then just before she rolled out a compliment of “Hot Buttons” were inserted.

Now as with any project of this scope and magnitude IMO the team created becomes the key to its success as such I want to express a special thanks to Dave aka Harrold Ford in Sacramento, CA for his personal and supporting teams assistance, to Al aka Boss330 Racing, TonY G aka HP Performance, Kip aka Ewing Enterprises, Rich aka The GT Guys, Brembo USA aka Barry for Race Technologies, Stillen Motorsports, Whipple Industries, Mike aka Polito Ford in Canada, John aka AccuFab, and of course my personal support team.

Having shared all of this none of this would have been possible without the vision and support of the gal’s owner as such a heartfelt thank you goes out to him as well.

The entire project can be viewed and read about as there is a chronology of the events as they unfolded as well as a couple video clips on my website.
