I just got an email from Kyle, and his insinuation that FedEx is to blame for this pisses me off. One thing I hate more than careless errors is companies trying to place blame on others and not taking responsibility for their own actions. Here is my response:
Kyle,
My FedEx man saw the packaging as well as I did. I did not know at the time it was broken, but before that, we both commented on how poor the packing was. Actually, there was no packing to photo anyway. It was sitting in a box with a square piece of wood screwed to the back of it at each end, that was all. After 20 years of working with FedEx & UPS, I can say with certainty that you won’t get a dime out of FedEx for that shipping situation due to the lack of packing. I carefully cut the box away from the item as to not damage it further when removing it from the box. The box was destroyed in the process and discarded. I no longer have the item as I dropped it off at the Saleen store in Irvine.
If you are going to send me another, I have a couple requests or you will get the next one back as well.
1. DO NOT SCREW A PIECE OF WOOD TO THE BACK OF THE ITEM. I will not accept one that has screw holes on the back of it. It’s stupid. This places torsion on the central part of the item by fixing it to something heavier at each end. Simply wrap the item in bubble wrap several times and place it in a slightly larger box. If you wrap it in bubble wrap and place it in the same size box, it won’t fit correctly and it will be rubbing inside the bubble wrap and the paint will come off just like last time. It would be even better to place it in a box large enough to float it in packing “peanuts” after you bubble wrap it.
2. DO NOT SEND ME BACK THE SAME ONE OR ANOTHER ONE THAT HAS THE CRACKS REPAIRED. I WILL NOT ACCPET A GLUED BACK TOGETHER BROKEN ITEM OR ONE THAT HAS BEEN REPAIRED WITH BONDO. I will be inspecting the inside of the item for repairs. I am paying top dollar for this item, and I expect nothing less than brand new with no flaws condition.
Sorry to be so blunt, but I don’t want any misunderstanding.
David
