Removed the Wipers

Guys took the wiper blades off yesterday. Looks good. But I do not want to have the arms there either. How do you remove the arms themselves?? :confused Never taken arms before.

Flip the arms up at the spring joint like you are washing the window. Where the arm attaches to the knurled knob (basically the attachment), you wil see a small (1/8"?) tab on the upside. With your thumbnail, pull it straight out sideways (it is a locking tab that does under the knob to keep the arm on). Then gently rock the arm back and forth while gently pulling away from the car. Very easy.

The flat black Sprite tops work great as a knob cover (OK, let the jokes come on knob cover - wait - come on knob cover - I already made one :biggrin ).

If you've removed the arms, pump out all the washer solvent to negate the formation of salts. Once the resivoir is empty refill it with H2O and pump it out a few more times. Leave the resivoir cap open to allow the tank to dry out. Also eliminates~ 4.5 lb. of unnecessary weight.

well about a month ago I finally got around to taking off the wipers. Not exactly sure why I waited so long...it is pretty awesome. I had some painted caps over the assembly and that was fine....but I got a little bored one day and decided to try and fabricate some filler panels....heres the pictures.....the color match isn't really perfect as I just used off the shelf Duplicolor black. The jury is out on these and if I decide I like em' I'll probably get the color closer and fix a few things. Would love some feedback....here ya go

How are they held on?

If they are gripping the wiper stub shaft you may want to pull the wiper fuse so they don't get turned on by accident.

If you do not already have plans on a production version of these covers we could definitely make them out of urethane. If I am stepping on your plans I apologize. If not, give me a call and we can discuss this further.

I applaude your extraordinary efforts and feel there is real merit to this modification. Have you considered removing the wiper transmission? This would allow the filler panels to be made without the hump, which in all honesty I find objectionable. This would be perfect for owners that have zero intention of driving their cars even if there's the slightest chance of rain (i.e. me). I recall one owner had such panels seamlessly integrated into the fender and hood, which is probably a more permanent solution that I might like. Either way great job!

Just a word of caution. When reinstalling the wipers have them sprung outward when you first activate the wiper. This could be a real problem on the Pantera. On rare occasion either the spline did not park properly, the wiper spline was accidently turned on when the engine was turned off, or the arm plain just wasn't put on correctly. Anyway, the wiper could be drug down and across the HOOD when activated!! Obviously not good for the wiper arm/blade either. OUCH !!:ack :ack :ack :thumbsdow :bored :eek :bang :tongue :slap

thanks for the kind words.......I just finished my socal to Vegas via Pahrump drive where I got my first chance to try them out in the real world...and at real speeds. The drivers side one worked perfectly....the passenger side has been a problem....I was rushing that one to get it done for the rally and it was particularly humid at home so.....something wasn't completely cured and there are small air pockets showing up....and a small crack...bummer. I basically started with an thin (1/16") steel center (for rigidity) and molded a cap into it with fiberglass. Lots and lots of sanding, fitting, sanding, fitting, more sanding....did I mention more sanding? Then primed, painted, color sanded, buffed (by hand)....it really was a royal pain in the %$@! I would never make these for anyone...but I was hoping that if someone liked em that had more resources they could be made to a higher quality .....though they could never be made with more love! So Kyle........I'd be happy for you guys to make some.....just give me a free set!
