Removed the Wipers

I used the blue twist off plastic top from a Sprite (that also matched the blue of my GT stripes). However, I then painted the caps black. A perfect press on fit! NO need for expensive anodized fittings.

OK, I did it - took them off. Wow. can see (more or less) the front of the car, the stripes, and the gas cap. Sure changes the perspective.

Good idea for the cover - tried it and it worked. Painted black. Instant, perfect fit. Get your patent attorney after me as the first violator :wink

I sure wish there was a way to add in insert on the trunk / fender to blend in the cutouts for the wipers. Anyone have any ideas? Would be easy enough to form out of plastic or CNC aluminum so that it would sit flush, but I can't think of a good way to attach something without drilling or other damage - needs to be removable in case the wipers do go back on.

I just laid a towel down and took my time, they came off easier than I thought. I then went to a local parts store and found thin rubber grommets/caps on the "HELP" rack that slid nicely over the ends.

There is a little tab at the attachment point that pulls to the side - then just carefully rock them a little and they come up (have them bent up like you are washing the window). Very simple.

You need to remove the rubber hose for the washer that is attached to the wiper.

I did the removal last night. The first try, I removed just the wiper blades and the water hose. Went and drove around and thought it was some better. When I pulled back in, I kept looking at the main attaching point, and finally figured out to pull out the small metal piece, not slide it. Came off easily, and unplugged the water. My water tubes are pretty far down in there, so reattachment may be hard.

Night and day difference! You can really see fenders, front duct and stripes better. Best bang for the buck mod yet! Of course I had to pick me up a couple of Sprites. Flat black or glossy?

The passenger side washer hose is easily accessible by simply opening the trunk lid. The driver side hose is a little trickier but can be accessed by opening the driver side door and looking up into the upper hinge area. :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

I don't run wipers either, and don't see any reason to drive the car on the 5 rainy days a year we get here. If I get questioned it will be the o'le "some #$^@ SOB stole them last week, parts on thes cars cost a fortune......" If I get pulled over in this car I'm thinking a wiper blade ticket is gonna be the least of my problems.:bored

California Vehicle Code Section 26706, windshield wipers are mandatory, although I doubt they would ever notice for obvious reasons. Anyway, what I learned when I looked it up was that in 2005 the enacted a law here in California like other states which says you have to have your headlights on when you turn your wipers on. Never knew that. So Steve, I think a good Kalifornia lawyer could argue that since you don't have wipers, you should never have to turn on your headlights!!!!!!

Thanks for reminding me that I live in KALI-FOOL-NIA, just sent those bas-turds a nice quarterly estimate on 1-17, see that the check cleared miliseconds after they opened the mail.:ack :bs :ack

That is interesting. On most of my quarterly filings the Fed cash it right away but the state might take 2 weeks!

If they want to get you, they will. Lets see what can happen if you get stopped while driving in the rain

1. No front plate
2. No DOT approved wipers.
3. Obscured visibility in windows.
4. Driving in unsafe manner for the conditions.

Yeah, but as long as I ride with my wife, she'll get me off, orrr uhhh get him off????? The doctor did warn me before the silicone installation about obscuring the visibility when I ride with her in the car, and driving in an unsafe manner. All this legal stuff still has me broken out in hives over the bumper removal discussion.

Seriously though, I was kind of ignoring this discussion until yesterday when I went for a ride and saw how much they block the view of the hood. I will likely go ahead and “break the law” to have them removed. Good idea.

Took mine off a year ago and love it. I keep them wrapped in a towel and stored in the front trunk in case of emergency.

Guys took the wiper blades off yesterday. Looks good. But I do not want to have the arms there either. How do you remove the arms themselves?? :confused Never taken arms before.
Thx for the advice.:thumbsup

EP, re-read my post. I now see what is so funny. :biggrin For those who really know me it would be even more funny. Down right hilarious! :thumbsup In any event I REALLY do want to know how to take the wiper arms off their mounting studs/bolts for a super clean look.

Krymuny, 06! I DID think you were putting us on! NEVER take only the blades off !:eek :eek :eek You may accidently hit the wiper control switch and scratch the living devil outta your windshield with the "bare" arms, Sir!

I've never looked at the arm's attachment method. 'Can't help you there. But, for right now - put the stinkin' blades back ON! IMMEDIATELY!! NOW! :willy :rofl (We all wuv you anyway!)

:cheers

:thumbsup EP the arms are sitting on towels (thick) on the windshield. The weather been lousy here yesterday so it has not even been started. I know there is way too much risk of scrathcing the windshield, so I guarantee you if I even start the car before I get some help from the guys here I WILL put the blades back on. Thanks for the words of advice and concern that you have for our girls!!:thumbsup :cheers

You're welcome , Sir!

'Glad to hear about the towels! 'Wish you'd MENTIONED that in the first place! I thought for all the world you might actually run the car that way! You scared the stuffin's outta me! (So, how dumb am I???):rofl

Oh, okay. Okay. I'll confess. I was puttin' you on... 'Gotta have a little fun once in a while ...

Do you have a shop manual? 'Might have a lil' tidbit in there as to how to get the 'arms off.

(Just FYI, I pulled the blades off mine too just to see what the improvement is, and I gotta admit, the view IS a whole lot better. But, here in "rain central", one can pretty much forget about actually removing the 'arms on a more or less "permanent" basis.)
