Some were skeptical on bid values based on the available quantity of GTs at auction this year in Scottsdale. The GT's continue to draw strong dollars at auction here in Scottsdale. The GT is an American ICON. I know most will discount the movie influence but at a recent Cars & Coffee I heard many a person referencing the movie as they walked by our GTs. Bottom line as others have pointed out it is the BJ Auction with all the hype and alcohol. Was fun to watch the stage when the green NGT came across.

In an effort to make as many charts as possible, we can refine further. Barrett-Jackson seller fee per their website is 8%, and the on-site buyer premium is 10%. It's 12% for absentee bidders. Mecum seller fee is 10% on cars with reserve, 6% on cars without; buyer's premium is also 10% on-site, 12% absentee. We'll just make it easy and assume 10% on all. Bonhams buyer fee is 12% on the first $250,000, 10% on dollar amounts over; have to contact them for seller fees, so just assume 10%.

I was never good at math, so caveat emptor.

I was actually gonna sign up and maybe bid on that silver car (but would NOT have won it LOL), but I must admit it pissed me off that they essentially wanted to charge me an extra $5K or so to bid online. What century is this, anyway?

While I agree that auction prices are not necessarily a reflection on real world pricing, it was nice to see to see the enthusiasm remaining very strong for these cars. I think that Eddie Hills Heritage at 359 is good deal for an end user. (No affiliation)

The Ford GTs at Barrett Jackson did very well. I should have gone there. Oh well, hindsight is always 20/20

From the 2019 Auction:

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Jan. 21, 2019 Barrett-Jacksonmade history last week when it sold more than 1,800 vehicles, the largest public No Reserve collector car auction ever held, during its 48th Annual Scottsdale Auction, January 12-20, 2019, at WestWorld of Scottsdale. In total, over 1,800 vehicles sold for over $118 million with a 99.74% sell-through rate, while over 1,500 pieces of automobilia brought in over $4.05 million, and $9.6 million was raised through the sale of charity vehicles, bringing the total auction sales to more than $131.6 million.
$118M @ 18% (conservative) = $21.24M GP$... 😎 for just 1 auction.

Auto auction margin is low for some types of auctions. Art and collectibles can be 20+% buyer. Farm auctions (where I was) was 25% back in the 70s. BJ is 15% on Automobilia.

You need to add all the rows and rows, and more rows and rows of flea market, food, auto-supply, etc. vendor rents. Oh yeah, Tv rights also. Oh yeah, bidder registration of at least $500 average. And regular entrance fees at ????

Not anywhere... For BJ the floor area everyone is a bidder which is 350-650 depending on what level (drink card) and early. Day passes used to be about $20/day but that's probably gone up. Bidder drink card gets you up to 12 drinks per day. At $8 for a beer for the mere mortals it's cheaper to get a bidder pass even if you don't buy anything.

On the plane back to Atlanta I ran into a guy who bought the Heritage at Gooding after the auction. Not sure what he ended up paying but said it took a little haggling but it did sell.

Ok, I'll settle for reliable-ish. 😂

I’m going to second this sentiment. The McLaren 675 LT is a hell of a ride. Half price for a ”new” convertible version is a screaming deal, no matter how you slice it (even with a few “unscheduled” dealer visits...).

Those cars were made in relatively low numbers, and I think they will be one of the few McLarens from this era to...eventually...go back up in value. In the meantime, they are the BMW Z8 of 2008 — get ‘me while you can!

Also...what the hell am I doing?! Engineering yet another missed opportunity for myself?

Everyone who’s read this? Forget everything you just saw! Where are those Men In Black dudes?

I’ve always found it much cheaper to get a letter of credit and purchase a bidders pass which comes with some drink passes then purchase VIP parking which keeps getting further away because of the crowds! Way too big for me now as we went every year for 12 years! It’s exciting for sure with everything going on throughout the venue!
