Well I never had the money even to think about owning a new GT in 2005. My family has ford dealers and I was the new car manager when the Gt came out. We had a heritage and one red one new on the floor. The red one we sold for $154 We could not sell the heritage for 2 yrs and the accountant said it must go. My dad and the other owner at the time were not sport car guros so they agreed to lower the price. I was hoping that it would never sell and some day I could buy it. Of course I was the only person that could sell it because they did not want to pay a commission . I sold it to a guy from chi town new for $178k.

At that time I owned a mustang street/drag car. And spent hours and hours tuning racing and replacing parts to go real fast. Then one cold night racing in true street I made it to the finals but crashed at 160 plus mph running 7.9 In the 1/4 mile I gave up racing and I went loony and bought a Ferrari f355 spider red / tan (fun car to drive but looked like a mid life crisis ) with the insurance check I had on my race car. My neighbor at the time told me about F355's and at 50k he thought it was a good supercar to own that was going up In value. I bought the car for $50k. I owned the car for one year and after getting ribbed by my ford racing buddy's. I wanted to go racing again.

Fast forward to 3 years ago. At the time a was now the used car director for our 5 dealerships and attended many auctions to buy cars for the stores. One day the owner of the auction came up to me and said hey we are having a government repo sale and their is a red 1500 mike ford Gt up for sale and would I want this car. I was in no position owning the Ferrari and not having my ducks in a row to figure out how to buy it for myself. I thought well I can buy it for the dealership giving me some time to figure out how I could buy it. I called all the big players even before I knew of the ford gt site and was told that red was not a good color and it was only worth about 125k. I opened up the bidding at 120k and only one other guy bid against me. Him and I went up to 154k and I got scared thinking the accountant would kill me knowing this was more the it was new. I chickened out and went home thinking maybe I was lucky because they would have never let me live it down. I was off the hook.

Then about 3 months later the guy we sold the red car to wanted to sell his car back to us because he wanted to buy a jet. He was friends with the GM of the store and because they did not involve me he offered him 125k. The car had 2000 miles ,headers and had racing seat belts. The car was only used at the track so they were harder miles and the car had some scratches and some minor inside blemishes because of big Metal buckles rubbing on the door jams and painted center counsel . I drove this car home over the weekend and was hooked but I still owned this damn Ferrari that I knew would not be easy to sell in fall. Before I could even post an ad a wholesaler saw it on our website and offered us 160k. They were so pissed that I wanted the car and the deal was I could buy it for what we owned it for that they went crying up the ladder that I was was costing the company 35k in profit. Because my Ferrari was not sold yet all I could do was put my tail between my legs knowing this was the deal of a lifetime and I was wishing time would come again.

Over the winter one day I was looking for a new race car and while searching autotrader for first fords then the highest price second I ran across a Eleanor 67 mustang for 90k and also a 2005 50k twin turbo street / drag car that caught my interest. Then while trying to pull up the ad again for my buddy to see I accidentally ran across the car I own now. I saw the ad and fell in love. The car was black with black HRE wheels/. 4 option car without the factory wheels. The price was 155k and the car had some steada pkg installed with after market ford racing exhaust and intercooler upgrade. It looked amazing but at 150k it still was over priced but the cheapest on net by 30k. The car was owned by Lito Shepard of the giants and it had 17k miles. I had to sell my car fast and start the talking with the Ferrari dealer that had this car.

I was the first person to call because I was the first person to see the ad. I came on this site and asked for help and you guys got me in touch with Gt Joey and Rich from the Gt guys. Between Joey beating them up about some issues a 17000 mile should have and not having the stock parts I was on my way to saving even more money. I called Rich and had them send pictures inside and out of the frame bolts and suspension parts to make sure the car was never in a accident even though the car fax said it was not (lol I am a dealer I see many cars with clean car faxes that were) gt Joey said I could find a better car but I did not have 180k yet alone the $150k they wanted. I sent them $2000 to hold the car unit I could arrange shipping.

The real story was I needed to sell my Ferrari and I posted it for 57k and got real lucky. There was a guy that posted he was buying a red tan spider on fchat from Chicago 1 hr from me and I knew that dealer was a shady dealer and I stole the guy off that car (he had money down) onto my car. By luck he knew the mechanic that worked on my car so the deal went down smooth and fast. (Gods were with me on this one trust me Ferrari buyers are very scared to pull the trigger without 15 other people opinions ) now with the 355 sold I could press hard on the deal. I called the used car director at the Ferrari dealer and told him this cars was for me and not the dealership to resell and asked him to help me out because his car had high mileage and not being perfect and having aftermarket parts it would make it harder for him to sell. I also asked myself if I was the dealer I would have offered the guy 120s for this car on trade so I knew he was still ok.

It was Dec 20th and I agreed that I could pay for or before the first of the year if he would work with me. I offered him 125k and he came back at 138k. I was now the customer for a change and doing this for a living I had some tricks. I said ok and put him on ice for a few days and then I called back and said I was planning on flying out to look at the car but could not get air fare to New York on the week of Christmas and the big ball drop I told him if he included the shipping I would buy it site unseen. (3000 value) He agreed and 2 weeks Later putting 120k down paying the taxes I owned a Gt. The bank called back and asked if we made a mistake on the contract. A mustang for 138k with 120k down and I still needed a loan. Lol.

The car came in a enclosed trailer during a snow storm and after getting it in my garage I had months to look at it. I found some minor flaws but I was so happy because it was way better that what I thought it would be look wise and condition.after all I have bought hundreds of cars and I have a good idea what to look for. I was in heaven. Two weeks later I called the Jack from long island Ferrari to thank him and he had located the stock wheels at his other location and sent them to me free of charge. The car now has just under 27k and I added whipple 4.0 , custome tunes ranging from 87 octane, race gas and even a E85 tune that runs perfect using SCT . Custom air intake with bigger mass air meter housing and custom exhaust with stainless headers . The car is amassing and is very fast and reliable. Sorry it was long now it is your turn.

The saga of #1079 wasn't as 'involved' as the O.P.'s!

I decided I wanted a FGT when I saw THEE Super Bowl commercial. 'Waited 'til the dealer premiums had pretty much evaporated (IOW, 'waited until all the Sonics, Mariners, and Seahawks who wanted one had paid in the $250-$300K range for theirs)...'located blue/white in the Seattle area on the net...1st week of July, 2006, 'walked into the dealership that had said car...It had a $250K "second sticker" on it from 'back when' :skep...'Told the salesman that wasn't happening...'Back and forth, back and forth...In the end they wanted "X"...I offered "Y"...They accepted...'Handed them a rubber check...They delivered the car to my place via transporter that Friday.

The transporter's arrival did cause quite a stir in th' hood. The 'offload' created an even bigger one. :lol

I sat in a new red gt in a local Ford dealership in '06 and fell in love but was unwilling to pay anywhere near the ask. Although I would've preferred a new one, in my infinite wisdom I decided if I was willing to wait a year I'd be able to able to pick from what would surely be a huge selection of drastically reduced ,low mileage units.
So....as these stories often go, four years later I figured I'd better pull the trigger on my black n/s from Shelby as these cars were obviously bottomed out. Who knew that within months the prices would start climbing to where they are now!
I have not once regretted buying the car ......

In '06 my local dealer Dodge dealer (now gone) was doing an oil change on my daily driver (Viper), tech took it for a joy ride and totaled it over Thanksgiving. My wife asked what I was going to replace it with. I pulled up a GT on the screen and asked her what she thought. She agreed to it... but, I wanted Yellow.

Next day she had printed out the last 8 remaining Yellow (in wrapper cars) and after calling the first 7 dealers (all wanted 20k over or were keeping it) I was pretty bummed. The last one I called was in Moundsville WV, I called and asked what they wanted for it... The manager hesitated and said he wouldn't accept a dime under 5k off sticker. I sent a 5k check overnight.

The next morning the Owner called me to say that the Mgr didn't quote me the right price......... Oh man, here it comes.... He needed another $1,200 (whew). I couldn't find a transport truck to grab it, so I flew out to PA, hitched a ride down to WV and drove it back on January 5th '07 about 500 miles back to Chicago. It was a beautiful drive, 50's and sunny the whole way. :)

'One of the oldest tricks in the book...th' ole "Gee, I'm sorry. I made an error" stunt.

Question: Have any of you EVER seen an "error" like that made in YOUR favor? ('Rhetorical question. Never mind.)

Was that your dad's car? His son had a yellow one when they came and picked it up. He gave me my first ride in a GT

I knew I wanted one the first time I saw them so I then found this forum. On the forum I saw a guy (Andy) in Lufkin was buying them from insurance companies and rebuilding them so I stopped by to see him. At the time I didn't really have the funds either but every time I traveled to Houston on business I would stop by and see him. There was this silver no stripe sitting there for quite some time and I finally convinced him to sell it to me as I knew I wanted to do the work myself (and the GT guys who did the majority of it) and so therefore I bought myself a Ford GT

The red was is another story
