I decided I had to have one in August of 2007. I found my car in Iowa City through DuPont Registry. It had 27 miles and was never Registered. The fellow had sold his Ford Dealership but kept the Car. It was driven from the Ford Dealership to his Mercedes Dealership and kept on the floor. After a while he told one of his people to sell it. I was able to get $10,000 off List and scooped it up.
I have been smiling ever since.

"GT4JR" convinced me to sell my ZO6 (which I loved) and buy a FGT, could not find a blue/white all option car so I bought a red/white one (because I heard it's faster than the blue/white one :lol) and never looked back :biggrin,

A friend threw me the keys to his Black 06 in 2009 and told me to take it for the day. I drove it all over San Francisco up to Marin all along Highway 1. What an incredible drive - you couldn't wipe the grin off my face. He sold it 2 years ago for $140k and i'm still in regret that I didn't buy it (as was he for selling a month later).
I knew I wanted one eventually when I could afford it and found mine last December in Tucson. I'm so hooked I'm keeping my eye out for another - hopefully a black stripe delete or the new mystery car.

I sat in a new red gt in a local Ford dealership in '06 and fell in love but was unwilling to pay anywhere near the ask. Although I would've preferred a new one, in my infinite wisdom I decided if I was willing to wait a year I'd be able to able to pick from what would surely be a huge selection of drastically reduced ,low mileage units.
So....as these stories often go, four years later I figured I'd better pull the trigger on my black n/s from Shelby as these cars were obviously bottomed out. Who knew that within months the prices would start climbing to where they are now!
I have not once regretted buying the car ......
And I know what you paid! You should be thrilled beyond compare!

I saw the red prototype at all Ford Carlisle I believe in 2004. Came back home and went to my Ford dealer to order one. They knew nothing of it and could find even less. Eventually I got one ordered from them. White with blue stripes just like the matchbox I had in the first grade. No contract no deposit needed as I had bought many Fords from them before. Months went by and they called me to say two guys were in a bidding war for our car. "Would I match their numbers?" I was asked. Are you kidding me? Forget it. I said I'd buy elsewhere. That car got changed to all black speedisleeve car with suspension recall done by dealer. Took them over a year to sell that car.
Took time but found a red in Houston that got for sticker and the manager said he'd have it delivered within two weeks on their dime. A few days later Katrina was headed for the gulf coast. They ended up having to fedex the GT to us on it's own truck. 21 hours later it arrived. My neighbor is still kidding me about it and telling his friends about his car nut next door neighbor.
A year later we went to SSV to see our heritage built. My little boy got to sit in it and even cut the VIN in it. It's his car now awaiting his attention. It was ordered from before it was built and was specifically ordered different from all the other heritages. I do like to kid my boy that red is faster than the heritage. Our only race thus far is on playstation though. The most amazing car I'll ever own. They really can recreate a legend once though.

Wow Smokdu! That's a story.

Mine was easier & I think I told it here years ago. I went to my Ford dealership in March 2006 to have my van serviced & while waiting I went in the tiny showroom that only has room for 3 cars. I was shocked to see 3 GTs! A Heritage, a red & a white GT. I had read in magazines that they were going for $200-300K & knew that was beyond what I was willing to pay. The salesman says the owner is the only one who can sell the GTs & he would call me. I told him if it was for MSRP I could buy it but my wife would never say yes. When I came home from the office the next day the owner Dave was sitting in the living room talking to my wife with 2 framed GT prints sitting next to him. My wife said "What color GT do you want?" Now that's a salesman! I chose the white, drove it out of the showroom the next day & have put over 50K miles on it! Now Dave is a family friend.

As a mid-sized dealership Dave went on to sell 8 GTs & he wasn't even allotted one. He has one of the first GTs & drives it regularly.

Was that your dad's car? His son had a yellow one when they came and picked it up. He gave me my first ride in a GT

Yep that was me... He had been retired for about 7 years and had sold most of his cars by that point.

But one afternoon, he dropped by my office and I tossed him the keys to my GT... He drove it for a half an hour and immediately became obsessed, originally he wanted yellow but I talked him into the Heritage (my second choice).

Your story sounded familiar, HAH, small world.

He pretty much leaves it at my place full time now, feel free to PM me if you want to bring yours down and go for a cruise when the weather improves. Ironically, I had mine out today in the whopping 7 degree weather :biggrin

Cheers, Mike

Bought mine used from Shelby. Was vetteless at the time and needed therapy. Rode with Ray in his TT Heritage and that did it. Ray said call Shelby and I did. Bought sight unseen from Shelby and was delivered exactly as represented. Been a blast ever since.

Yellow was my favorite color before the wreck. They are faster lol it turns out light blue is worth more.

Ford GT Purchase - October, 2006

I had been following prices closely for about a year and was bound and determined to not pay a premium over MSRP. In the Fall of 2006, I noticed prices beginning to drop slightly. I continued to follow and to check ebay listings daily. In October, I spotted exactly what I was looking for ... the quinticential Ford/Shelby racing white with blue stripes and all four options. The car was offered by a small dealer in Pennsylvania, Apple Ford. I later learned it had been ordered by the dealership's owner and he eventually decided he didn't want to keep the GT. It had been on display in the showroom since delivery. My ebay bid of $10K under sticker was the high bid and I bought the car.

Apple Ford coordinated everything through their Service Manager who was just great. My plan was to fly in and drive back home to Massachusetts the same day. Apple met me at the airport with their van and drove me to the dealership where the Service Manager and the GT awaited in a separate bay with two techs standing by. By now, I'm feeling like royalty. The funds had already been transfrered so it was only required to attach the Mass plate and leave for my trip home. I remember that I was so nervous my hands were shaking as I screwed in the Torx plate screws! And of course, like many of you, I left the dealership in THIRD gear. Happily, I only did that once, so no harm, no foul.

It was a great day and an experience I'll never forget. It's also hard to believe it all occurred over 8 years ago!

It was September 2007, I was about to turn 50 and one of my friends got cancer...I realized that you may only get one chance in life.

I had loved the Ford GT since 1966 and still had a toy silver GT from that time my mother had found, so I nixed the idea of buying a 911 Turbo and started looking for a GT. I watched the Top Gear videos endlessly...I was hooked.

I searched the internet and found Shelby in Arkansas. I did not know he was the biggest supplier of GTs in the world, but found that he was taking delivery on a Tungsten from California the next week. I sent him a deposit before he got the car. The car arrived on Saturday and we went to look at it on Sunday from our stay in Memphis. I bought it on the spot at MSRP with 7k miles. I have owned it for 7 years now.

I got the visor signed by Carroll Shelby and Camlio signed the car at the NO Rally. It's been a great experience.
