A fun day!!

Gentlemen,

The highlight of the "Gathering of Mustangs" in Midland last weekend was being able to listen to and attend dinner with WW2 triple ACE Bud Anderson. 90 years old and the guy never sits down! He spoke for an hour at the event and then walked the entire venue, climbing up into Ray's P-51D Boo-Man Choo. The guy is sharp as a tack and he still flys P-51s even though he gave up his Medical at age 88. Listening to him talk about dog fighting (he has 18 victories) gave us all the chills. The black and white photo is Bud at age 22 in 1944 after completing his second combat tour with the 8th Air Force. On Sunday Ray and I flew aerobatics in the morning before I flew home. What a great weekend.

Chip

Gives new meaning to the term "Take the checkered flag."

Of all the exquisite pictures posted on this thread, Chip's picture of Bud Anderson is by far the best. So great to see a WWII guy "up and at em."

Wow, Ray and Chip IN THEIR ELEMENT for sure. Thanks for the great pictures. Tomy

Awesome pix, I might be familiar with the girls.

Erin does lots of plane stuff too.

I need that same door modification to my Quicksilver.

Waldo - i now have two cars with this modification (Matte Red and the Silver car) and would not do it again... wait until the rally and really look at them close... they look cool when open, and save room in parking lots but you have to hold your tongue right to close them and they are make entry and exit of the car more difficult. If you shut them too quickly they can jump off the track and scratch the paint on the top of the door and require a hard shut to latch properly but you only have a couple of inches of horizontal travel to do that in... Shelby installed both of these so these are as good as they get and I still would not do it again... if you do just get Shelby to do it...

The event was a big hit at the CAF Headquarters in Midland featuring Col "Bud" Anderson, a triple ace American Hero and Legend who flew the "Old Crow"

Spending the evening with him it was amazing and inspiring to hear him talk, recant old adventures, and describe everything about the P51 from the war all those years ago. Sharp as a whip and still ready to take on any challenge. Incredible National Treasure.

Janna won best in show for the car portion with her '66 GT350 Clone and almost was beaten by her old '65 Cobra which I sold to a buddy without telling her :willy

Chip came out for the event and we had a blast tearing up the skies upside down, sharing cocktails at the feet of WWII heroes, taking pictures and driving fast :biggrin

I have some more pictures as well once they are done processing :banana

Thank you for this honest assessment. I have wanted to know this for some time and have not had an opportunity to see them in person. :thumbsup

"Bud" Anderson mentioned frequently in Chuck Yeager's biography "Yeager". A good read, and what a wild pair!

Best Regards,
Waldo
