If there are as much on the other side of the street, that's half of all GTs in germany :)

But where are the blue ones ?

At Ed's last night. Hope my rear tires last the trip. They are becoming slicks.

All the fastest color +1 getting ready for Pre-Rally Day 1 drive to San Francisco and the Peninsula.

Allegedly, there is a Golden Gate Bridge out there, but the fog had not burned off yet.

Fuel stop south of San Francisco. Big group of Germans on Harley's touring America. I got to practice my rusty Deutsch with this Fräulein from Hamburg.

Labor Day weekend meant it was too crowded at Alice's Restaurant to stop...not a parking spot to be found...but we got to stretch the sidewalls on some of the sweetest curves anywhere. Then, a wonderful lunch stop at BlackICE's home. The entire ICE family pitched in to feed our hungry group, which grew by several more GTs, a SPF GT40, and an Ariel Atom.

Back on the road again, managed 464 miles from Breckenridge to Salt Lake City with a slight detour to the airport to pick up someone special. Sorry Jeff forgot your room number so will hold on to the package myself:biggrin Lots of rain in the mountains today, going to need a little detailing when we get to Sonoma. Off to Lake Tahoe tomorrow.dons breckenridge.jpg

Self-service pressure wand car washes seem to be few and far between in California. If you see one, 16 quarters will do the trick.

Detailer Andrew will stop by tomorrow afternoon to talk about his services if anyone is interested. I think he said around 3:30.

I always keep a $10 roll of quarters in one of the pockets behind the drivers seat. Comes in handy as you never know when you'll need them.

I did the Death Ride...around 1983! Back then it was the Markleeville Death Ride. Wish I still had the t-shirt. Skeleton riding a bike. We stopped in Markleeville today. Looks pretty much like it did 30 years ago.

I did the death ride in 1999. I recall driving the GT up those passes a few years ago wondering how I ever got up on a bicycle. Beautiful part of the world!

I did it in 1996 and 97. In 96 I only finished 3 passes and 97 I did all five. 97 was a detour year going 143 miles, longer than usual; Monitor both sides, Dagett, Luther and Carson passes. Sadly I would struggle to do one pass today.

It retrospect maybe going 50mph on a bicycle with a total contact patch of less than 2 sq inches and without any protective gear, other than a Styrofoam helmet, is more dangerous than going 212 mph on an airport runway with a 6 point harness, Snell 2005 helmet, Nomex suit, Halon system and more.

I agree going down some of those hills I hit 60 mph. Several years later a colleague crashed and was killed. Anyway, not to hijack the thread; there have been a lot of great stories here and I am happy this year to live 2 hours from the Rally. It was good to say hello to some of you yesterday at Ed's place. Looking forward to the rally!
