NOPE, good time to keep your hands in your pockets, unless the car is a true rarity. I forecast the market on the edge of a cliff, I expect American Muscle category to crash 30% to 40%. Lots of phony counterfeit auction tarts will be on the blocks between Silver, Russo, B-J and Kruse.

I too agree that the market is about ready to be realigned.
My gut tells me with all the Barrett hoopla and TV marketing going on there is likely another strong year and then those opening their rat-hole funds wallets will turn to a new flavor of the moment.
I was there through the Exotic car frenzy, the grey market frenzy and I see this as nothing different and yet I sit back and smile at while all of the new money changes hands.

I agree from watching barrett-jacksonvision here on the sat.. it looks like 07 will be a strong year but the market has been getting softer.
who knows.... buy what you like... drive what you want. some cars are art, some cars are drivers... it just depends on the buyer.. but really anything can be an investment ... it just depends how you well you sell it to determine if it was a good one or a bad one.
Although there is a killer mercedes gull wing from last year that I would like to have had....
went for 345k well he had two one went for 300k ....
can't go this year ... have a business trip ...maybe next year.

I also agree that the prices are crazy high. I had a great opportunity to buy a show quality 55 Chevy for only $40K. Judging by what I saw, I could have easily made 3-4 times the money.

Are you talking about the Black GT-40 that sold for around $350? Thats not an original car. Thats a saffir. Car was purchased by Sam Pack and resides in his collection next to his black and Silver GT.
The saffir cars were built in the early 80's on an agreement with the owners of the GT-40 name and P series Vin numbering. They were built using the same bucks and all original equipment to the original cars but are not what I consider original.

Barrett-Jackson has nothing to do with true market values. The guys who buy there are willing to pay whatever it costs to have the car that catches their eye. A lot of the cars are hard to find and being able to buy it and take it home right now is a powerful motivator.
I've bought 3 cars there and sold one over the last 3 years. By the time you pay all the bidder fees, buyers fees, commissions and transportation costs, you can't make any money on a car there. But most of the buyers there are not trying to make a profit. It's a blast just to be part of it. Don't miss it if you can possibly go.
I'm giving my wallet a break this year (2 GT's in one year will slow you down) :ack but the closer it gets the more depressed I am that I won't be there, especially since you guys are planning your get together. I picked the wrong year to skip.:bang

What about the italian market? There are early countachs that I could have purchased for $50 to $70k last year that are worth upwards of $175k now or even worse, there were several Miura SV's that could have been purchased at the $200k mark 18 months ago that are worth well over $500k today. Is this sustainable? Has everyone lost their minds? Will the soft RE market hasten the crash?

Rockman, I also thought the one-off 1000HP Mercedes was a missed opportunity. In fact I thought it was the biggest missed opportunity of the entire auction. I never looked at it real closely because I expected it to go for closer to 1M rather than the approx 240k it sold for. From a distance of a couple feet, it looked stellar. I left the B-J and was watching on TV when it went across the block. I definitely would haver been competing for that car in the 200's. Bony's comment makes me feel better about being absent when it was sold. There is no doubt, B-J sells a little bit of everything including some shit covered in high gloss. I own a Cobra that B-J sold a counterfeit copy of in 2003.

This market will crash. Happened in '89 and will happen again.
Its weird; something will be the last straw.
In '89 one Ferrari Daytona Roadster got flipped in one yr. 4 times in Tokyo from $150 to 950K. Last buyer sold it for $125K....and even then it was a chop-top, later revealed.
Saw on BJ a Nova trade for $150K and a 60s Jag XKE for $38. That just does not make sense. The Novas trim work is mis-aligned on TV; how bad is it in person.
