Major flooding in Boulder County

Most of Boulder County is under flood watch but the St. Vrain river through Lyons is totally out of its banks. They are describing it as a 500 year flood.

We are OK, but our part of town is isolated from the rest of the area. The bridge that goes into town had a foot and half of water over the roadbed at 7:00. The rest of the area around is underwater. The road to the north (towards Estes Park) is flooded out as well. Word was that water was over the top of Longmont Dam (Button Rock Reservior) and that is the source of a lot of our water besides our own watershed of about 4-5 more miles up. The ground is totally saturated. It has rained almost solid for 3 days, our gauge now says we've gotten almost 5.75 inches here since Monday.

We are without electricity as of about 8:00AM, I'm on laptop battery and cell phone hot spot. We still have water pressure but since the lines cross the St. Vrain river twice (I believe under the bridges not in the river bed) the fact that we have water pressure may change at any time. We are under a boil order and have water stored in buckets and bathtubs.

Here's CNN:

Wish us luck!

We are OK but my best friend's house is gone. He argued about having flood insurance, I sure hope he's happy they made him get it.

I have some pictures and video but the batteries won't last long enough to upload them. We're told not to expect power for 3 days or more.

We Are good. Cell went down but is back for a few minutes. We are above it. I tracked it on still and some vids on my d300s

We lost power at about 900. Gas went off at 100 or so due to a big line cut. I could smell it

Our cell tower went down at about 200 and they cut gas and water about 400

So we got nothi g except a tile roof. We are dry

Then about 500 I went for a quick tour of our about 1 mile strip and the bridge that had a foot of water over it was clear so I went up to Scott's shop. His house is under about 5' of water still. 2 others camping there also lost their homes

This is not good. It's not as bad as the 76 big Thompson flood (look it up) but I know all of hhese people

Whiskey will be good tonight.

We're collecting water I. A bucket so my wife can p**p in the toilet. I've been o. The river enough to know but she only did it once and didn't like it

We drove through that front on the way back from the rally. Just after Salt Lake City thru Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and the panhandle to Amarillo, it was the worst and heaviest rain I've ever seen. Scary stuff in a GT, hydroplaning isn't fun!

Hope you all get back to normal shortly

We have no services - electricity gas and water are all off. Cell service is down but I'm able to conne t from our high up location to a far away tower for short times like now.

Town has been divided into 6 "islands". Some people are isolated and cannot get out of town or evacuated because bridges are out. We are high and dry though. We are being told to stay put with no evac ordered yer but resources will soon become thin like water.

We are west of town (Eagle Canyon) and do have access to the main road when it opens. The bridge that was underwater yesterday is below water now. But the highway from town east is still underwater

The water is receding. It's lower every time I look so hopefully the road will open soon and well at least be able to go get water and ice

They said they will bring water in but the road has to open first.

More later

The governor was to fly over about noon and a helicopter just flew over

Really you all know more about what is happening here than we do

We were told to leave. All about 2500 of us. With no sanitation and water this is going to be an unhealthy place. We are dry. There are so many trucks and heavy equipment it's not safe to be out and about either. National guard and FEMA everywhere. We art told we can lock our houses or not our choice. I don't want a looter to destroy the 2000 front door but I don't want to not know they e been either

It could be 4-6 weeks or longer before we are allowed to return. The gt is in the garage but I give it a 60-40 chance it will still be here when we come back

They said we might be able to "visit" in a few weeks to get whatever else we need and by that time prepare to winterized

I helped a friend move stuff out of his flooded house. It was mud 5-6 inches deep inside in places. Water 1.5-2' inside on the drywall. Place was already starting to smell musty and mold will follow. I think in the end many houses on this street will be razed and not rebuilt

we will be leaving tomorrow or Monday. I will be able to post some pics once we get back to civilization

Jesus, Tony. What a nightmare. Dont really understand why you wouldn't lock your doors. Obviously not going to stop a determined thief, but may deter the one just skimming the top for easy pickings. As far as the GT, if you can't get it out, I don't see how anyone else can. God speed.

I would take the battery out and remove some fuses (fuel pump, injectors, etc) to ensure that car can't be started. Then try to make it as hard as possible to get the car towed from the garage.
