Detailed & Delivered!

2008 Ferrari F430 Coupe
Grigio Silverstone

Started by removing the wheels and detailing the inner barrels, brakes, and suspension:

Covering up the engine so it doesn't get wet from the hand wash. I could have washed the engine after the hand wash, but I prefer to do it this way so the mild engine cleaners and protectants involved can't possibly contaminate the surrounding paintwork and are instead washed off. The engine bay will have to be wiped down and inspected two more times before it is seen by the customer due to washes.

At this point, the Ferrari has been clay barred and I am now taping off any trim, emblems, weatherstripping, etc... that might come in contact with the polisher before the two stage light polish:

After the polishing is finished, the tape is removed and the car is washed again with another new wash mitt. This ensures the dusting that comes off the pad during polishing is not left on the vehicle or in various jambs, cracks, door seals, and so on.

Going back home safely in our custom 40' enclosed trailer. The F430 is winched inside (No one sits in the car, or crawls out of it) and straps are used over the tires to secure it to the floor. The winch cable was removed for the photo and you can see the shiny tow hook on the passenger side. The cable is hooked back up for transport but with a lot of slack as transporting it taught could seriously damage the vehicle.

Rob, I'll make a trip anywhere but we'll probably need more people interested for Canada. Are there more GT owners near Vancouver that would like to get their cars detailed? I think it was posted before that you and 2112 were six hours away from each other, was that right?

Jason - A trip to MN from IL is certainly do-able if you want me to drive out there. If anyone is along the way and would be interested, feel free to chime in. Thanks guys!!

No, more like 2-2.5 hours apart on I-5 which is the main highway up the west coast. If you are going to come this way, I have 2 cars I will have you do. I bought my GT with 2900 miles and it has been dried with a towel and washed with non-deionized water. The other (Z8) has a scuff (thank you BMW Northwest:bored) on the hood so they are more than just spit shines.

Maybe just a "call out" to those in the area can round up the #s needed to make the trip worth while.

I have tried different ways of cleaning my windshield on my cobra and GT and have not found anything that does not leave a streaky residue

I have tried microfiber , cotton and newspaper to wipe it down

I have only tried windex as a cleaner

Any suggestions

Rob

Rob, Jason,

Parts of your dashboard are constantly out-gassing, more so in the sun light or hot conditions. This could be plastic, vinyl, even leather, but combined they result in that foggy and greasy build up on the inside glass. I suggest using a cleaner that you may already have inside the house or is available locally called "SprayWay" it is ammonia free and tint-safe for vehicles and cuts into grease at least twice as good as Invisible Glass (From my experience). SprayWay has been around for a long time and is probably at your grocery store. If you keep ending up with streaks or smudges the answer is easy, just clean it again, with each pass you remove more of the greasy build up causing those smears. You will want to switch towels in between, or use a different side. If the glass hasn't been cleaned in awhile it could take 4 or 5 passes to get all of it. I have used green coarse microfibers that are advertised as glass only and I think it made it harder.. Easiest way for me is to fold a regular 30% polyamide microfiber twice until you have a palm-sized square and coat one side with SprayWay for 3 seconds and the other side for 1 second. Use the side that has more to cut through the grease and the other side to follow up and leave it streak free.

A beautiful example of classic American Muscle: 1973 Pontiac Firebird Formula-455 with the desirable Super Duty 455 engine (Not to be confused with the 455-HO) with an advertised power rating of 310 HP that was later determined to be around 370 HP. :thumbsup

'Two more fine examples of your shoddy, sub prime work! :rofl :thumbsup:thumbsup

You wouldn't happen to have a full shot of that Firebird's interior, would you?

I knew someone would ask, but unfortunately not as this was an exterior-only detail job and I only took pictures of what I worked on. Foam gun wash, clay bar, and two stage light machine polish topped with Zymol Vintage. :thumbsup

Here are some before and after shots for lazy Sunday viewing though :cheers
