Well, it has been done by Spirit, but I'll be damned if my small hands will fit back there. There is a wire with two capped, female RCA plugs usually on the drivers side. It is taped to the entire wire harness and needs to be cut loose. This is presuming you have the Mac. Make sure you double tape the surrounding housing so you don't scratch it. It's hard enough when you have the removal tools.

Zero,

Yes.

It can be done.

But it seems that no one else, to my knowledge, has been able to do it.

What can I say?

Take a look at this thread.

Good Luck - It Ain't Easy.

Neil,

Yes, this is how I connected the IPod to the Mac radio so as to operate it through the AUX feature.

Works well.

I'd like to have this done - I wouldn't tackle the work myself though, I wouldn't have the balls to attack my GT with tools!

A Ford Dealer with the radio remover tool can get to it in 4 minutes easily. Tomy PS Slide radio out slowly.

Tom, Where can I buy a Mac radio removal tool? The local dealers I've called say they are not available through Ford. Thanks ...

Spirit, you indeed have magic hands or great luck. I've had the radio out in a couple of different GTs and have tried to get some add'l wiring in back of the head unit (microphone for Bluetooth capability, for example) and even with the radio out the back-end of the radio cavity is sewn up pretty tight. It is seriously hard just to route a wire out of there because there is NO room for a 1/8" diameter wire let alone a finger or hand!

As you managed to do it, you must have very thin fingers.... too bad you're not my doctor.

did it in about 30 minutes using Fred's method. ran the cable to the passenger side in to the pocket so that the ipod/iphone sits in the pocket.

just need to take a roadtrip to see how it works on the road. :thumbsup

Arthroscopic iPod/Suffle installation

I used a modified version of Spirit’s iPod installation technique. I looked under the left side of the radio and saw the RCA plugs where Spirit said they would be, but mine were just out of reach. I used a long thin pair of scissors to cut the tape that bound them together and then used a homemade lasso to hold them tight while I shoved the RCA plugs onto them using a pair of needle nose pliers. After connecting the wires, I used 3M Dual Lock to connect the Shuffle to the underside of the dash. Install time between 5 and 10 minutes.

(I tried to post some small JPGs, but I kept getting error messages. Maybe it's because I'm not listed as an "owner"?)

Mark,

I am glad it worked out for you.

Homemade Lasso's always come in handy around here too. :thumbsup

Now, you can listen to YOUR music.:banana

usmcFred, The radio tools are available from Rotunda that is why they don't have a Ford part number. Rotunda is the company that makes all of fords special tools. If you give your dealer the rotunda number they can order it for you. rotunda part #415-003. They should be around $6.00.

I got under there and I have to say there is no way in ___ this can be done on MY car from the back by laying on my back on the pass side. I stuck the camera in there to take some pics and got a bunch of blurr.

While lying there I was wondering if some cars were missing the duct for the heater in this location. I can stick my hand up the duct, but not around and behind the assy. That was the only way I could see it would be possible from the drivers side. I did not try the pass, as the door is close to the wall and it's raining out.

I stuck my fingers in the cut out area on the drivers side of the front bezel and could feel a cable. Is this what you mean by behind?. Cause if I put my hand against the the front fire wall and try to reach forward there is no room for even fingers. These cars not the same or we are not saying and thing the same thing. :confused

I found someone that could locate the tool. Thanks for the tip:thumbsup.

Last question, are most of you just using a Y cable to the headphone jack on the Ipod or are you also using a special cable that also can be wired to charge the Ipod?. I saw one on the web with a hot wire connection and a ground that looks ike it would work for charge and play.

Simple Ycable (2 RCA plugs). I did not opt for power type plug, although I do have power point plug in if necessary.

iPod / Shuffle installation

I used a simple Y cable since I only hooked it up to a nano.

I tried again to post the pictures to this site, but no luck. Try here instead...
