How special the GT is....

I've had my Ford GT for over 6 years and 22,000 miles (got it with 7 on the odometer). I've had the GT Guys do some upgrades and basic maintenance, and the driver's side rear shock started leaking about a year after that tire hit a piece of metal that jammed in it and had it doing a paint-mixer impersonation at 70 mph for a few seconds (I'm convinced the two are related). I've needed some minor adjustments to the door latches, and THAT'S IT!!

I know the modern F-Cars are more reliable and less labor (i.e. COST!) intensive, but I've decided the worst (best?) part of owning the GT is that's it's wrecked me for a Ferrari. Like every car nut, I've dreamed of owning a prancing horse since my age was in the single digits, but I don't think it will ever happen now. I've driven plenty of them over the years and while they have an appeal they don't have the magic combination of looks, performance, heritage, bystander reaction and real-world useability (with lower ownership costs) that the GT offers -- even the newest ones. I would have never thought driving a Ford would be more of "an event" than driving a Ferrari. Thank you GT team!

Bottom line, the GT is a REAL CAR in every sense of the word; it just happens to ALSO be a helluva visual stunner and performer. The worst things people can point to is the limited cargo space and the tricky entry-exit. For a MID-ENGINE EXOTIC CAR those items don't even register in my book. And the upsides are too many to list (though I can't help but throw exclusivity and resale value out there, because those are yet two more areas where most people wouldn't believe a Ford could trounce a Ferrari).

The GT and I are like two lobsters -- we've mated for life.

Sorry Enzo.

The GT has a timeless design as we all know , unlike the F-cars , I remember years ago when the only car I wanted was a Ferrari 308 just like magnum P.I. drove , nowadays I look back at those days and say to my self I am sure glad I didnt buy that car as today it looks old fashioned and did not have a timeles dsign , same can be siad for the new F-cars in my opinion

Magnum 308 is not a timeless design? I beg to differ. I haven't seen any Ford GTs being the center piece of a TV show... sorry

So I guess you are saying that these are timeless as well,

Torino
Ford Mustang II Cobra
Firebird
Dodge Charger
Mercury Marquis
GMC Van and 1984 Corvette.

You missed several... all of which have more face time on TV that the Ford GT. Timeless blah blah blah. I love the Ford GT but let's not throw up all over each other okay?

BA's van included!

My description of timeless is a car that gets old but does not look old , all of the forementioned cars including the 308 look old and are not represenitiove of their predecessors

The 308 is ~30 years old. The GT 6. Hardly timeless...

I loved the 308. I still do. I do think it is timeless but I would hate to pay to have it worked on.

The F-cars I really love are stratospherically expensive. Too much $ to even take on public roads IMHO.

I just don't have the burn for an F-car like I did for 35 years of my life.

Have to disagree on 308

The designer is a legend; several iconic cars to his credit

The F 280 GTO, with same 308 lines has been described as next sleeper Miura...in $2-300K...heading higher fast

Blasphemy! The Miura is timeless. The Ford GT may one day rise to that level.
