I've had my Ford GT for over 6 years and 22,000 miles (got it with 7 on the odometer). I've had the GT Guys do some upgrades and basic maintenance, and the driver's side rear shock started leaking about a year after that tire hit a piece of metal that jammed in it and had it doing a paint-mixer impersonation at 70 mph for a few seconds (I'm convinced the two are related). I've needed some minor adjustments to the door latches, and THAT'S IT!!
I know the modern F-Cars are more reliable and less labor (i.e. COST!) intensive, but I've decided the worst (best?) part of owning the GT is that's it's wrecked me for a Ferrari. Like every car nut, I've dreamed of owning a prancing horse since my age was in the single digits, but I don't think it will ever happen now. I've driven plenty of them over the years and while they have an appeal they don't have the magic combination of looks, performance, heritage, bystander reaction and real-world useability (with lower ownership costs) that the GT offers -- even the newest ones. I would have never thought driving a Ford would be more of "an event" than driving a Ferrari. Thank you GT team!
Bottom line, the GT is a REAL CAR in every sense of the word; it just happens to ALSO be a helluva visual stunner and performer. The worst things people can point to is the limited cargo space and the tricky entry-exit. For a MID-ENGINE EXOTIC CAR those items don't even register in my book. And the upsides are too many to list (though I can't help but throw exclusivity and resale value out there, because those are yet two more areas where most people wouldn't believe a Ford could trounce a Ferrari).
The GT and I are like two lobsters -- we've mated for life.
Sorry Enzo.
