Help Needed with Oil tank bolt

Yes i would expect to see a melted O ring when the plug comes out.

I would use an impact. I think it is your best chance. The trick is that you cannot use an extension. An extension will buffer out all of the hammer blows making the impact ineffective. Can you get a small 3/8" impact up there? I think it would come right off if you could.

The worst case scenario isn't so bad, anyway. In the worst case you muck up the reservoir - but then it would be relatively easy to have another bung welded on and the whole tank can re re-coated, no problem.

After looking at the manual, removing the resevoir doesn't look too bad. Once removed either the impact or drilling out would be easy. For a couple of hours work you could save $1500.

Guys guys, think about it, there is an o ring on the drain plug. WD-40 and other magic stuff is not going to get past the O ring to work on the threads. The same in reverse, the oil in the tank dosent get past the O ring thankfully keeping the oil from leaking out.

Propane torch to heat the tank bung followed by a 1/2'' impact (3/8 gun didn't do it) with a 3 inch extension worked for me. I tried a 24'' 1/2" rachet with a 3'' extension to clear the frame caused too much deflection and couldn't break it loose. Removing the tank isn't a big deal but would not be any easier imo as you would have to secure the tank without damaging it in the process.

update. Drain plug is out. i used a 1/2 electric impact from DeWalt with no extension. All is good oil is back in the car. Just an FWI i sucked all the oil out of the tank from the top (I thought) and at least 3 more quarts came out the bottom. Thx Guys.

Might just be caused by heat but i will know next time because i used the right torque specs this time. Either way it is out.

The 'Auto Fix-It Shows' (2 Guys Garage, Gearz, Truck U, etc....) have been demonstrating this tool recently. Quite ingenious!

Guys, I have one of these tools and they work GREAT!!! Used it yesterday to take off the rusty rear bumper bolts on a 2500 Chevy pickup. It is a must have for those in the RUST BELT.

If I remember correctly, Jay removes the "standard" magnets from a set of drain plugs and machines the 'plugs to accept magnets that are about TWICE as strong. (I had a set of these, but, sold 'em when I sold #1079.) The magnets in his 'plugs will darn near pull a unopened #10 can of peaches off your kitchen counter!
