Woohoo! Nothing like a big birthday to create a sense of self fulfillment.

Always been around these, in some form, over the years (mostly good), and decided it might be a fun cruiser. Plus, the 500A Equipment Group Package adds some nice and unique features.

No need to adjust to a new remote. This remote is even easier to use than my '06 remote, as it has one less button on it. Timeless design, pure function, a decade later.

Proudly sharing my birthday surprise to myself. You only live once!

Oops. In my excitement, I selected the photos, but did not properly upload them. Second time's a charm!

Does it have the cage separating front from back?

No partition. Did not see patrol or duty use.

Here's an overview of some of the basic differences. This also comes with the Equipment Group 500A. Will be taking the door panels off soon and fully exploring the equipment further. Basic stuff includes AWD, Column Shifter, 78AMP Battery, 220 AMP Alternator, Police Spec Brakes, ABS, Traction Control, and Transmission Power Points.

Someone fully cut me off (unintentionally) yesterday when I was bringing it back. Then they went all weird and almost pulled themselves over. They scared themselves, I didn't do anything.

I just picked up a pair of door knobs, need to pull the panels and reconnect the rear passenger door handles via cable pulls so that they can be opened from the inside by the rear seat passenger(s).

Will make kid drop offs much more user friendly, can always be changed back.

This article gives a better overview of the Police Interceptor Utility suspension and other HD equipment as it relates to the civilian explorer.

https://www.government-fleet.com/156766/police-interceptor-utility-vs-ford-explorer

"Both SUVs offer intelligent all-wheel drive, but the P.I. Utility gets police calibration that operates uniquely for police use and gives the vehicle better traction and acceleration to account for more dynamic driving by officers. Ford calibrates power delivery and transmission shifting differently for each vehicle.

The P.I. Utility is limited to a top speed of 131 mph with the base V-6 and 148 mph for the EcoBoost V-6. Agencies can ask for the 131-mph governing on the higher-performance engine at no extra cost. The civilian Explorer with the 3.5L engine is limited to 120 mph.

The SUVs get helical coil springs and nitrogen gas pressurized shocks; however, the P.I. Utility adds stiffer springs and shocks. This reduces body motion and improves handling.

The P.I. Utility gets a unique cooling system with a larger radiator, additional transmission cooler, engine-oil cooler, a larger grille to provide greater air flow, and a water-cooled all-wheel-drive system."

I have a buddy who has been driving x-copper units for decades. He recently purchased another black Yukon. It’s like “the parting of the Red Sea” whenever he heads on down the highway....hilarious.

What a great purchase. Looks like a "fun" family hauler.
