Joulee,
First off, what the hell is "unscrupolous", the car is correctly listed as a salvage.
Your choice to buy the car or not. You gave us your views, I respect that.
But, your comments about the listing are unfair and off base.
Thanks

Bony,
I just typed in a couple paragraph response to your question but it did not post. I do not have time to retype that diatribe and will be out all day so I will try again this evening. Perhaps you could find what happened to my post and insert it here?

Hello,
Your post was not deleted or changed. When you started the second thread I dleted it and moved all the comments here. I sent you an email to that effect.
I am not an employee of yours or this forum. I have other things to do that look for your posts. You started a shit storm here and have failed to answer the most basic questions. I am tempted to close this thread. Our members can read an ebay listing. Thanks.

the only legitimate repair, in my book is to send it to Saleen.

Again, thanks for your views. Did you know that THE GT GUYS have rebuilt cars? Are you suggesting that their repair would not be legitimate?
Sorry, but the quality of their work is as good as anyone's. Just want to reply to your comment. In light of the Wallace book thread, please don't think I'm picking on you.

Interesting thread. Someone sent me a picture of an Enzo in Monaco that was just repaired and painted a flat black. They left the inside of the doors red, which was an unfortunate short cut. Frankly, the car looks very bad ass

Almost every car that has been in competition has had serious battle scars, and many repairs. When done correctly, they are as good as new.

Now, back to this thread, if the car was a tittle wash, I would agree and commend the poster for outting it. I find it amazing that the gentleman has pictures, and has elected
not to answer the basic questions I asked.

Now he is back telling us that his post was lost... Simply not possible. Lets see if he does answer. I wonder how he is associated with this car, previous owner?

It seems pretty clear from reading it that he didn't inspect the car.

I did read that the previous owner spoke to Ford who recommended not putting the car back on the road. Just looking at the pictures you have to assume the frame was damaged...look at the doors..YIKES.

Personally I wouldn't trust anyone but Rich/Dennis or Saleen to weld up a frame on one of these cars..

Now if you read the listing he is being honest about it being a Salvage Title. Not giving all the information is wrong in my book but if you know its salvage to begin with and don't research the car..shame on you.

That is a little more than some damage to the right front...you can't tell if the frame got it but the a-arm isn't attached to anything anymore..shame it looks like a billet ones too. The fenders are pushed into both doors as well as the hood being in the windshield.

Oh well buyer beware..glad i have mine that I drove off from the dealer. if repaired right at about 100 this would make a fun driver though.

Matt, I tend to be with you. I'm waiting for one of our seasoned respected members to jump on here and state what they learned after inspecting the car. I would think a frame replacement would be in order based on the pictures.

I still wait for disclosure from the thread starter regarding my questions.

Well, Indy GT is the only guy close to where the car is. Perhaps he can get off his duff and do something worthwhile for a change.

All I know is the guy listing the car with Ebay is obviously a man of good taste since he repainted that hideous white car with that magnificent Midnight Blue.

Also I must say you gentleman are a little slow as I'm surprised that after nearly 3 pages for this thread I got first crack at this joke.

Who someone feels they can trust and who can actually fix the GT correctly is certainly more than 3 people! Many of the top body shops probably have guys that repaired or replaced 100 times as many frames as Saleen or the GT guys put together as I am sure that is not either one of theirs specialty?, and that is no disrespect intended to GT Guys or Saleen as they would also be my first choice based on my limited knowledge and the recommendations of this board if I didn't have first hand knowledge of someone closer to me. But there are many, many qualified body men out there that can work magic with metal and for all anyone knows this is what happened to that car. Maybe thats not the case but maybe it is? Either way I agree with Bony the guy lists it as salvage, that in itself says buyer beware and that is all the disclosure that is necessary! If your serious about buying it, fly out and look at it for yourself and if you don't have the knowledge, hire someone who does. Also the car has no reserve and seems to be about 60k or more under the market right now, hell for that savings you could disassemble the car put a new frame on it and put it back together and still be 40k to the good IMO!

Bony,
To clear up a little confusion and make sure we are talking about the same thing. I know you deleted my double posting and responded to your e-mail in kind. What I’m talking about is I responded to your question, clicked on submit and the site didn’t post my response. I unfortunately am very busy with work & family and do not have a lot if time to spend on this site. I did not have time to retype the entire post at that moment, and stated I would get to it later. Hopefully you can understand. Now to answer your question. No I did not inspect the car personally, I did however speak to a body man who did. He noted the following, the steering wheel was a little off either in the 1:00 o’clock position or the 11:00 o’clock position I cant remember which, there were some flaws in the paint which maybe could be buffed out, you could tell it has been repainted, some of the gaps between body panels were a little large, especially between the left hand rear quarter panel and clam shell, and new front sub frame bolted back onto the main frame. The pictures were e-mailed to me from the original owner after the vehicle was towed and put in his garage. The owner loved the car and wished to keep it (He didn’t total it his wife did but she is okay). So he brought everyone on board he thought would be relevant in providing an evaluation of whether it could be done. This includes but is not limited to his insurance company, a body/frame guy, and engineers from Ford Motor Co. They all concluded unanimously that due to the frame damage they did not think they could bring the car back to original factory tolerances and any attempt to do so could possible jeopardize they safety of the occupants and ones around them if the car was pushed to far. They all did not want to deal with the liability or with the knowledge that they could not guaranty there repair. Now while I am certainly not a GT expert I think Ford might know a thing or two about the car. Now maybe they all were being overly pessimistic about the repair and along walks this optimistic gentleman who just happens to be the best frame/body man to ever wall Gods green earth and says ya no problem I can do it. I guess I have seen stranger things happen. I too would like to hear from an expert on GT’s who has inspected the car post repair. But from the information I was given it seems highly unlikely. So I thought it would be a good idea to post the information I had gathered here to inform other members not only what I had found out, but possible avoid someone from being injured or killed. It seems by your own admission you could quite simply answer the question yourself. You stated that it looks like it would need a total frame swap, well why don’t you just call and ask. On a side note does anyone know what would cause those doors to shunt like that? Now I’m sorry if I started a Sh** storm but seems to me no one is getting excited here except you. But again maybe you do not think the fellow members of this board deserve to receive this information. So go ahead and shut down this thread. Oh well, buyer beware.

Good Luck & Happy Halloween
Tony
P.S. Another caveat, if you want more information I may not be able to respond immediately, so please be patient.

Allow me to comment.

The position of the forum is to encourage all prospective buyers to have a qualified inspector to do a PPI on any car off the mso.

You have stated that Ford feels the car should not be on the road.
Please advise name of the spokesman. Do you have something in writing?

Which body shop fixed this car, who did you speak with?

This forum does not take a position on which car to buy or avoid.

Many cars including mine left the factory with paint flaws and panel fit issues.

All previous comments that i have made stand.

I'm not excited, just want to maintain good balance.

Looking forward to hard information.

Cheers!

Personally, I am glad that this info was posted to this forum. I know that this conversation kind of took a odd twist here but as a GT Owner who would like to add at least one other to the stable this kind of info helps me make better choices. Fact or fiction is irrelevent, its information. How I process it is up to me. Heritage, Thank you. Boney, Thank you too for looking out for us. I know that both of you are only trying to do whats right and look out for my best interest You just have a slightly different approach.

Lets all go have a beer!!!:cheers

Ok....Ok...Frank and Chris I am back from holiday...

This appears to be a firestorm!

I have read all posts but have not looked at the eBay listing. Although not a GT "expert" (as I fully believe Rich and Dennis are MOST certainly) if the car is nearby, I would go take a look if it would be helpful to the Forum constituency. A through inspection (of the frame in particular) might be difficult without taking belly pans off which I am sure is most probably off limits.
I too would be interested in the Ford engineering "representative" who worked with the original owner suggesting the car could not be repaired.

While Jamie suggests there are more than 3 qualified repair people around to fix our cars if they get into a major accident (Saleen and The GT Guys) which is a true statement, the capabilities of our cars (speed, handling, braking etc.) exceed 99% of all other cars on the road (and which "body" shops have the most familarity). Thus IMO to restore those innate attributes after a major accident I (personally) would feel more comfortable with the three aformentioned rebuilders who have this intimate knowledge to fix a FGT I owned. Just my $.02 and I hope I never have to use them....

$1000 challenge!

I have $1000 waiting for you to prove this car has any frame damage, been rolled, or has an engine replacement. If you want to take it apart I'll help! Relax and please have some respect for people telling it straight. And I am SERIOUS about the $1000! If I'm right you don't owe me anything but an apology. I explained that it was a total repaint with issues, get over it. Just exactly what is the "Scam" that I'm pulling, I don't get it? I'm 25 miles from Orlando, surely you know somebody around here. What else will you do to make a thousand dollars tomorrow. Oh yes, maybe I'm right and it will be a waist of time for you. What is the deal here, cars get hurt, it happens every day. If some smashed your car in the parking lot tomorrow would that give Ford a bad name too? Lovin my cheap GT every day even more!!!:thumbsup

I would not sweat it Scott, I would just drop the issue. Its pretty clear that the buyer is most likley not gonna come from the forum. The more you talk about the car the more they are gonna find things wrong with it.
