Bony,
To clear up a little confusion and make sure we are talking about the same thing. I know you deleted my double posting and responded to your e-mail in kind. What I’m talking about is I responded to your question, clicked on submit and the site didn’t post my response. I unfortunately am very busy with work & family and do not have a lot if time to spend on this site. I did not have time to retype the entire post at that moment, and stated I would get to it later. Hopefully you can understand. Now to answer your question. No I did not inspect the car personally, I did however speak to a body man who did. He noted the following, the steering wheel was a little off either in the 1:00 o’clock position or the 11:00 o’clock position I cant remember which, there were some flaws in the paint which maybe could be buffed out, you could tell it has been repainted, some of the gaps between body panels were a little large, especially between the left hand rear quarter panel and clam shell, and new front sub frame bolted back onto the main frame. The pictures were e-mailed to me from the original owner after the vehicle was towed and put in his garage. The owner loved the car and wished to keep it (He didn’t total it his wife did but she is okay). So he brought everyone on board he thought would be relevant in providing an evaluation of whether it could be done. This includes but is not limited to his insurance company, a body/frame guy, and engineers from Ford Motor Co. They all concluded unanimously that due to the frame damage they did not think they could bring the car back to original factory tolerances and any attempt to do so could possible jeopardize they safety of the occupants and ones around them if the car was pushed to far. They all did not want to deal with the liability or with the knowledge that they could not guaranty there repair. Now while I am certainly not a GT expert I think Ford might know a thing or two about the car. Now maybe they all were being overly pessimistic about the repair and along walks this optimistic gentleman who just happens to be the best frame/body man to ever wall Gods green earth and says ya no problem I can do it. I guess I have seen stranger things happen. I too would like to hear from an expert on GT’s who has inspected the car post repair. But from the information I was given it seems highly unlikely. So I thought it would be a good idea to post the information I had gathered here to inform other members not only what I had found out, but possible avoid someone from being injured or killed. It seems by your own admission you could quite simply answer the question yourself. You stated that it looks like it would need a total frame swap, well why don’t you just call and ask. On a side note does anyone know what would cause those doors to shunt like that? Now I’m sorry if I started a Sh** storm but seems to me no one is getting excited here except you. But again maybe you do not think the fellow members of this board deserve to receive this information. So go ahead and shut down this thread. Oh well, buyer beware.
Good Luck & Happy Halloween
Tony
P.S. Another caveat, if you want more information I may not be able to respond immediately, so please be patient.
