...what is the significance of Fox News?

:confused Why would there need to BE any significance? 'Just happens 'twas they who posted the vid on their 'site.

Had I seen it on MSNBC's site (not very likely), I'd have provided a link to that. :cool

Like it or not, PP has the Guinness record for the mile. Until someone passes the 283 and pays Guinness to certify it, the record will stand. Too much is made of PP can't be going that fast because it only has XXX HP and the speed is unbelievable. Dyno HP doesn't mean sh*t, and the speed is more believable now in light of Mark's magnificent run.

I generally agree with most of your posts.

This time we'll agree to disagree.

PerfPower's run is no more believable now than before. Period.

And I'm more skeptical now of anything Guinness certifies than ever.

I do agree it would be fun to see the three cars run at the same event.

Congratulations again to Mark for his hard work, transparency and honesty!

So glad the car is ok, I heard the tail lights are unobtanium.

My fave part of Mark's vid is Patrick's almost casual, 'ho-hummmm...I-guess-I'll-shift-now', gear change! For some reason that cracked me up! But then, I don't have both oars in the water anyway...

The wrap (paint?) on that car is stunning.

I don't know if PP claims really happened. Only saying that a lot of boards say it couldn't go that fast because the dyno numbers were too low. T would agree if the dyno numbers were correct it couldn't go that fast. Dyno HP numbers are often "wrong" or at least misleading. Performance on the track/runnay is what counts. PP claims do seem fishy as they were running the whole show without any independent timing organization, but that doesn't prove it didn't happen. If you ask most laymen about a world record they will cite Guinness.

As for Guinness, as DBK pointed out, almost anyone get a record, just define you record narrowly and pay some bucks. It's all about the $$$.

To me all of these records are making "false" claims. Every report I have read claim fastest street legal car running the standing mile, while neither of these cars are street legal by the letter of the law, although they may have valid state registration. If you count non-street legal cars then there are many that are faster.

I would guess more than 25% on this forum have cars that are not street "legal."

I don't know anyone that cites or cares about Guinness World Records. It's a relic that will be gone soon, and is irrelevant already. People that want to know who has the curliest fingernails or who stacked the most pumpkins in a field on a Tuesday read it. Ask someone under 30 how much importance they put on GWR, if they even know what it is.

What's the world record in the 100 meter dash? What's the world record for heavyweight title defenses? Recognized sanctioning bodies for specific disciplines such as the Texas Mile have credibility, not a catalog of oddities.

Valid point, I guess I am showing my age.

Street Legal or what? I'm not going to go there...... This GT is FAST. I've seen Patrick sitting on the line to run the mile with everyone around the car Sweating like HELL and he has the Air Conditioner on and is casually waiting his turn to run. His calmness is amazing also as he casually shifts through the gears and guides this ROCKET to 278.2 MPH down a one mile strip. Damn Brother, Marks got a rocket and noone knows what it can do on a one mile perfect runway with plenty of room to stop in Houston. Ellington is a perfect place to test
his GT. Others should come on down and run their stuff. I'll be there.

How does the runway at Ellington compare to Beeville, length and surface condition?

I would love to see Mark's, Ray's and Johnny's cars run at any mile event organized by a non-biased organization. Add to the list those TT Lambos too.

If I remember correctly, PPR did not want to run in Texas because Hennessey had an affiliation with both the car and the event. Since that is no longer the case, there should be no more excuses. As for the Gallardos competing in the full mile, I would not count on it.

Maybe they are worried that the Lambo's engine wouldn't make it that far. :lol

Great run Mark, I’m really glad you got your name in the record books. You’ve done a ton of work to get it there.

Don’t forget to give my boy fish a little credit for the fuel pump assembly. After we spoke, I figured Mihovetz would have just bought the pump assembly from him (rather than make a copy of the technical post I put up here). I’m sure you didn’t realize. Fish does good work and I’d like to see him get a little credit, if only on this forum.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.. Fubar? Not sure what you are speaking about. Fish has never worked or built anything on my car. All work was done in the shop of M2K Motorsports including all fuel systems. Kevin designed a completely new fuel tank made out of aluminum that we had hard anodized and did away with all the stock system. We installed a large mechanical fuel pump on the engine and plumbed all new lines with new injectors. So as far as the "fuel pump assembly" goes I am not sure what Fish had to do with any of it. Mihovetz did not design the fuel system either, he just installed a large mechanical pump on the motor when he shipped the engine back and to be honest, he didn't even install it, because the motor mount had to be refabricated and Kevin Kesterson with M2K handled that as well.

Call me to discuss if I am missing something.

Blackice, Ellington is the Airport NASA uses and is concrete with numerous runways and lengths. Grooves are cut for drainage and very smooth, unlike Beeville. Perfect for a 1/2 or 1 mile run. 747 with shuttle on its back used Ellington many times transfering from California to Houston to Florida.
