The engine that X2 is selling is from the car that drove to Cabo a few years back. They have the car, which was wrecked AFTER it got back from Mexico, and apparently they are parting it out rather than rebuilding it. It was not a Ford test car. I have the VIN in my database.

Just thought I was missing something here as a man paid $500,000 for the rights to the first GT with Jay Leno on film proclaiming it? and in our year book and all the rest... So in Jeffs archives is number 10 the first to the public or number 7, incase someone wanted to own the first car for posterity:wink gtjoey 1314:thumbsup

The FIRST GT TO ACTUALLY BE SOLD to the public WAS the one that the former Microsquish exec paid $500K for at the charity auction. And that car WAS serial #10 as I recall.

First GT sold

EP is correct - 5-0010 was the first car sold. Mr. Shirley paid $557,000 to have the privilege of buying the
"first" car, orderd to his specs. Here he is driving away from the dealership in his new car (note the "M" plate):

5-0010.jpg

Jay Leno got the second car sold to the public, car 5-0012. Car 5-0011 went to a Ford family friend.

I was surprised when Ford auctioned off 5-0003 in FL a few years back. Prior to that, Mr. Shirley had
not only the "first" one, but also the lowest number car in private hands. Now 5-0003 (sold at BJ Amelia
Island 3/06) and 5-0004 (bought by a Ford VP in 2007), are on the road, and soon 5-0007 will be out there.

Ford still has a few more of them tucked away.

I will have the pleasure of meeting him this Saturday. Fortunately (maybe unfortunately), he will be racing at Laguna Seca on Saturday - not at the RM Auction. I wonder if he'll have a rep at the auction or if he even cares?

AXSTAD - I had the pleasure of following him around the race track, earlier this summer. I spent 5/6 laps just listening to his 1957 F 250 TR. 12 cylinders of musical magic. :thumbsup

Jon's pretty low key and easy to talk to, plus a real car guy. And he still drives his FGT often.

Enjoy the races and auctions.

VIN#117 of 2005 (Red W/White Stripes) scheduled to be auctioned at Barrett Jackson in Las Vegas. Seen at this year's Woodward Dream Cruise - Don't know the mileage, but it has definately been driven.

#117 was the second car built. They are selling it together with the second 00 Cobra R built. SVT has 4 FGT's left. There's a couple cars floating around the rest of the company in marketing and elsewhere. There must be less than 10 left at this point.

Last time I saw this car it had over 40k miles on it. It was the second of 2 high mileage test cars (Job 4-2). The other was VIN 116 as it was the first production car. Not the first one offered to the public but the first production car. We called it J4-1 black/silver stripes. Boy if those cars could talk.:eek:eek:eek

187K seems a pretty good deal...or is the economy really THAT bad? Not too much confidence in stocks at the moment, especially "Tech's".

We called the #116 car the "Fred Car". That's the one Fred Goodnow wiped out in Ohio with a Mike Vanderlinder in it. Rich and Dennis spent a long time and mega $ putting it back together.

Feeling good this morning.:banana If a GT of no REAL significance, just the seventh (produced/offered to the public...whatever) brought $187K in a bad economy what does that make NARDO worth?:thumbsup I wouldn't trade my NARDO car for 3 of those GTs being drug out of the closets. As someone else here says "Life is good".:cheers
