Ford GT Race Car from Le Mans weekend

Man Dave, Thanks.I am soooooo Jazzzed!

With those headlights, the front end has more than a passing resemblance to a McLaren F1.

Great information, posts and pictures. Thank you Dave and Steven, we will never see better pictures than those. As someone said " If these don't excite you YOUR DEAD". Great post! Are we going to have fun in Detroit or what? Can't wait. Come home home safe and sound.

man... that car looks so awesome I CAN'T take it anymore... Question ... why is the race GT going with side pipes.. see all you guys at rally 10..

Question ... why is the race GT going with side pipes..

If your question is to why does the car exhaust just ahead of the driver rear wheel(s??) as depicted in Dave's picture #5 of post 1, my guess would be 1) packaging convenience to a) reduce tubing pumping losses associated with ducts and b) reduce engine bay thermal loads due to radiation/convection and 2) no compromises in body aerodynamics by side exiting of exhaust vs aft car exit.

All of the above. The turbo location is very close to the exhaust exits at the side of car, which is where you functionally want them to be - no extraneous plumbing, heat discharge away from upper body aero and rear wing, et.al. And because they managed to get the engine down low (low CG) in the chassis, there is also a very short run of intake & exhaust manifold from the cylinder head/engine to turbo - e.g. improve transient (throttle) response, packaging, weight. I'll see if I can find a photo of a similar installation, a pic is worth a thousand words.

thanks guys

Same here,,, but change the "a" to " I " !! :biggrin:biggrin

Brian,

How long before you have that wing?

Not sure if race car will be there but there will be a presence at Goodwood.

Who do I ask for at FOS to get a decent look? PM me with the secret handshake and password please! I'm there on the Saturday, courtesy McLaren again.

Looks awesome!
And the paint scheme is perfect.

And last thing, parting gift from the weekend:

When/where are those going on sale, Dave!?!?!

When/where are those going on sale, Dave!?!?!

I'll try and find out. I scanned the code on the bottom but no info came up. It's a Ford piece, so I assume they'll have it in their online store someday soon.

Probably the only one I'll have a shot at.

Definitely going to keep my eyes out for it.

For all you new GT insiders, I have a question about a couple of the switches on the steering wheel. On the right side of the wheel, what are the "Neuter" and "Kill" buttons for? :biggrin
